Only saving grace about this outfit in my opinion was the receptionist Christina who was most helpful and knowledgeable. She helped us with the bus schedules and volunteered good information on where to go when she found out that the place that we were going to was not feasible. The pictures of the hotel made it look like a chic/sleek boutique hotel but in actual fact this is not the case. The carpets are so worn and tired, I could not get the air conditioning and mini bar to be cold, the water pressure was very weak and the wallpaper and furniture looked dated (and not in a charming way). I could accept the looks of the hotel and room (remembering that it is a 3-star) if only the pictures that made me choose it didn't look so good. Quite deceiving really. I also thought I booked a double bed but ended up with 2 twin beds put together. I honestly thought booking a double room (instead of twin) would get me a double bed. The person who checked us in simply said double means room for two. I would think twin means the same for them then? Please do verify with the hotel first would be my advice before booking.

This hotel is in a great location - a short stroll to the Promonade des Anglais, the main shopping area, the train station and great restaurants around the Cours Saleya. The rooms are a good size, air conditioned and clean. Some rooms have a balcony and all have electronic shutters to ensure you are not woken by the early morning sun. The buffet breakfast was very good too and great value for money. A good range of continental food, cereal, croissants, and bacon and eggs. The staff were excellent and our room was cleaned every day, with daily fresh towels provided. Also, and most importantly the beds were very comfy. All in all a great place to stay!

Had a balcony, however rooms were run down. The carpet is very old and they really needed to paint the roomsand hallways. The lobby was nice and the front desk employee was nice. It was a great location as you were a few blocks from the promenade and also a few for the train station.

We stayed at La Malmaison in Sept 2011 and this time (May 2012) found the hotel to be much improved. It is well worth paying the extra for a 'Privilege' room - decent -sized room + usable balcony. Location is ideally situated midway between train station, main shopping area and Promenade des Anglais. One word of caution, the restaurant next door 'Corleone' appears to be under same ownership but the service there is surly, the food overpriced and we found it far better to walk 300 metres into the main area where there are dozens of better quality, reasonably priced restaurants.

The breakfast was good value and the staff allowed us to take our breakfast back to our room for no extra charge. The hotel was in a great location, walk down the road 5 minutes to the beach and walk up the street 7 minutes to Nice station. Little corner shop nearby for wine and snacks. We would use this hotel again.

This was an excellent choice for our first 4 nights in France. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the room had a lovely balcony with a great view over Nice. It was a great location in a peaceful neighbourhood, and felt very safe. Old Nice was in walking distance, as was the beach, and access to buses to Cannes. Would recommend this hotel as value for money in this expensive city. The carpet was worn and needs replacing.

My phone with US plug wouldn't work with the typical US-Euro adapter. The staff at the desk was kind enough to let me use his personal charger for an hour in order to juice up! So kind. 14 Euros for a continental breakfast is extremely expensive... after traveling all over France and feeling that 7 Euros was a lot to ask, 14 Euros felt quite astronomical!

We regularly return to this hotel because it is in an excellent location, the rooms are spotlessly clean and the staff are friendly and helpful, without being in any way obtrusive. In the past we have stayed in other hotels in Nice - ones that claim to be 4 star - this hotel is better than them and we would always choose it for our holidays. There is the occasional problem of smells entering the rooms through the ventilation system. There is some confusion about the daily provision of toiletries.

Good location for city trip. The room was rather large. There were a safe and a teakettle in the room. On reservation I asked for twin room with 2 separate beds, but I got a room with one bed (2 beds were combined in 1) and with one large blanket. It was uncomfortable for us. Air condition doesn't work, only gives noise.

I stayed in a room with balcony facing bd victor hugo. Its a comfortable room and the hotel staff are friendly and eager to offer help though they just afford to understand very simple English. Just 5 mins walk to the promenade. 15 mins walk to nice ville tgv station. Good location. The room is clean and new too Though the maid didnt replenish the shampoo etc . You have to request it yourself if you are running out of it. The breakfast is so so. Could be better.
