The warm welcome of the owner The huge room with the true French feeling Great breakfast in a cozy dining room
Nothing bad to say about this place. We visiter Champagne during winter time and can just imagine how beautiful La Marotiere must be in summer!
Extremely friendly and English speaking host who was willing to help and give information on the area. Characterful large room with sofa, armchairs and coffee table plus huge ensuite bathroom.
TV was very small, but who goes to the Champagne region to watch TV anyway?! Only hand held shower head which isa bit awkward. Bed was latex, but of the very firm kind.
Welcome and service; spacious rooms; lovely breakfast; friendly dog. You can buy their own champagne at a reasonable price.
Everything was perfect
Everything was just perfect. The location is ideal - away from big cities and high streets but close to everything: Epernay in 10min, Reims in 25min, small villages with champagne production in every house are ... just there ! La Maroniere is on the border of Montagne de Reims and Cotes des blancs - cannot be better for visiting Champagne. The house is plenty of charm and history. The breakfast is standard with a good quality of products: local jambon, cheese, croissants, bread, butter, variety of confitures, honey, tea/coffee and fresh eggs from chicken you can see in the garden. You can even try house champagne Leon Giraud from the minibar. True that wifi didn't ' work in our room, but for us it was a plus as we didn't want check mails etc during vacation. For urgent matters we could always connect in the breakfast room or corridor. So we certainly recommend this place to evergbody
La Marotiere is a lovely B&B in Champagne, France. Our rooms were large and beautifully decorated. I felt like a queen! Our hostess was very helpful, and even stayed up for us as we ran a bit late due to a huge accident in Paris. Our hostess laid out a fine and filling breakfast in a large, downstairs room. Although we didn't have as much time as we would have liked to spend there, we do plan to go back and stay in the same B&B. It is lovely, especially for couples.
It's a bit tricky to find. We used our GPS, but still didn't see it as we were looking for a building like in the pictures. Here's the key, GPS will take you to the front of the property on a main street. You want to go BEHIND that by the river. The entrance is a gate which opens into a lovely garden where the B&B is. Just read the sign on the main street for directions. It's worth it!
Taste of real French life, warm welcome great period building full of nooks and crannies. Good location 12 miles from Rheims and about the same from the motorway. Great garden and riverside walks.
The old house and garden...the large room. There was no noise of the room nearby coming in side.
The bathroom was narrow.
Everything!!!!! It is hard to describe this hotel or mansion. Our only wish is that we could of stay more days. Owner was extremely attentive, great breakfast, free parking, they make their own champagne, and another Champagne Cellar acroos the street...this place has it all!!!
Nice rural house in the front of the river, gorgeous garden excellent for kids and dogs, authentic ancient house and decoration, rich breakfast, spacious room, very hot water in the toilet, very kind staff. Excellent spot to visit champagne region
Too many "old" furniture to give the impression on a "old" house. You need to have a car or a motorbike
Wonderful gardens. Secure parking. Welcoming host. Good breakfast.
Room needed updating.
Friendly host & large comfortable room.
Best lodging value in our 3 week European trip — in fact, best lodging period! Very large, comfortable space, beautiful gardens, great location: no downside!
Very nice garden where you can eat your own dinner, just by the river Marne. Very close to a lot of different Champagne producers, good parking behind locked gates. Nice Land Lady
Wifi was only available close to the Reception.
nice old house and garden comfortable spacy room friendly welcome good breakfast
nothing really , bit hard to find print directions , we didn't entrance is round the back.
Location, quiet, breakfast, friendly host.
Very hard bed.
Lovely old chateaux. Huge rooms. Quirky and we loved it!
Very friendly host - and a gorgeous dog, plentiful breakfast and a great location. (Across the road from Billiecart-Salmon)
The B & B was a little hard to find, you need to go in via the rear entrance. Internet was quite weak and best accessed from the courtyard.
If you want to stay in a quiet place with a beautiful garden then this is an excellent choice. This was once a champagne house where a rich family lived and that still shows. Big spacious rooms and big windows with automated shutters so you can darken them completely, a lot of art on the walls, comfortable bed, an excellent and big breakfast, very friendly host, very good service. Originally we only booked one night but we decided to stay a second night just for the fun of it.
Breakfast and Martine, the owner
The beds were too hard
Our host, Martine, was very welcoming and gave us a great recommendation for dinner. She served us a nice breakfast each day, and was helpful. More personal than a hotel, and lots of charm.
A little closer to Epernay would have been better, but not a bad drive. Just not much in Marieul sur Ay, and not much within walking distance, and things close early in the smaller towns (shops, bakeries)
Very friendly Lovely garden Large room
Everything was lovely
Lovely little b & b right on the river
Nowhere in the village for food, coffee etc
The property is lovely as the rooms are decorated in French decor.
When I arrived there was a sign that said go around the back, but being from another country that doesn't speak French and it was getting dam, this made me nervous. When I found the back entrance the gate was closed and I had to bother a couple who barely spoke English to call the number posted. Someone was suppose to be there in 15 minutes but showed up 45 minutes late and I missed an appointment. I was there for the check in time, the host should've been there, as another couple were waiting as well. Even though the hotel was a lovely place, this was unacceptable especially when someone is coming from another country and they are aware of this.
Lovely location. Charming gardens. A very friendly and helpful owner. Clean and spacious bathroom.
Room was spacious but very old. Had water damage (quite bad in some places) and smelt quite musty. Wifi was very slow.
