This is a B&B but it offers the taste & quality of a boutique hotel. The house in general, rooms & bathrooms are tastefully decorated. There is a lovely little terrace, fresh flowers on the tables, valuable paintings on the walls... L'Arene's landlord, Jeanne Marie has a fine taste for decoration and food and -if you ask him- he is there to help to make your stay a great experience. But there are house rules (and they are for the comfort of everybody) so listen to him carefully... The breakfast is served on a linen table cloth with fabric napkins, is rich and tasty with ham, local cheese, fresh fruit, fresh bread & croissant, local cheese, homemade marmalade (delicious!), yoghurt, coffee , tea alternatives and juices... Jean Pierre gave us lots of recommendations for day trips and restaurants and almost all turned out to be good. Hope to stay at L'Arene again:)
Common areas are a little cold. Need to ask if for heating. Sound isolation is a problem but renovation to solve this is in the plan, Jeanne Marie has said.
Loved the location, easy to find, short but interesting walk into centre of Bordeaux.Rooms well appointed, great nights sleep followed by good breakfastThe owners were away but Denis who was standing in for them was super, very helpful and accommodating. We would definitively stay there again,Bordeaux is a really user friendly city and our 36 hours there was nowhere nearly long enough to do it justice!
Nothing not to like!
location breakfast Inexpensive
had to drag luggage up two huge flights of narrow stairs. No elevator. No help from staff. no air conditioning, only fan in the room. Noisy if you open windows. No atmosphere. 18th century building with Ikea style appointments. 5:00 pm check in time. Too bad if you want to leave your bags earlier. Nobody will be around most of the time.
Jean-Michel was excellent and so helpful. Sorted out car hire and next hotel for us. had a room at the front which had a sitting area and was very comfortable. breakfast was excellent.
Didn't spot that check-in was from from 5o'clock so had to hang around having a wine for an hour!!
The quality of the accommodation and the wonderful help from Jean Marie Will go back and recommend to friends
Liked it all
good location, english speaking personal, nice interior & high ceilings, fine french style breakfast (=very limited))
there is no lift which is actually a big problem, cause the staircase is really steep and I had lots off difficulties trying to drag my suitcases to the last floor. Also you couldn't put a car on a private parking after 7 p.m. And there is not a word about it at hotels' description. As a result we had to park a car at a public parking in the center which cost twice bigger
We spent only one night here but would like very much to return. Had a lovely breakfast and chat with the owner Jacques.
Design and Breakfast
a bit far from the tramway
- Ambiance, decoration, friendliness, reception by the hosts, breakfast, evening treat, other guests
The location was excellent; a great starting point for walking tours. We enjoyed exploring Bordeaux during our two day stay prior to joining a Viking River Cruise. Our thanks to the owner, an attentive host and very knowledgeable concierge. Vince & Jeanne, USA.
Well it's Bordeaux so it's expensive, but very nice
Historic neighborhood, beautiful gardens, good breakfast and local eateries. Quiet neighborhood, close to shopping and tours for wineries and city.
WIFI connection poor on 3rd floor.
Clean but very less breakfast.
Wifi doesn't work in the room. Location is a little bit far from centre.
Great location, very hospitable and advice on where to go and where to eat is always spot on. We were here before and came back. We will be coming again.
The owner makes you feel like you are at home. Cozy and beautifully decorated property.
Nothing in particular, perhaps a little away from main attractions.
Our room (Suite no 1) was huge and comfortable...a lovely mix of old and new....loved everything.
THE OWNER WAS VERY HOSPITABLE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. MY ROOM WAS VERY ELEGANTLY FURNISHED AND THE BATHROOM VERY MODERN. WOULD STAY THERE AGAIN
NOTHING TO DISLIKE
very friendly and helpful, good location, lovely clean room with great character. Will stay here again if we return to Bordeaux
nothing to dislike
Jean-Marie was super helpful, giving us some great tips (like heading to Arcachon on a beautiful day). The place feels really homely, and is in a very quiet area, about 15-20 min walk from the main attractions.
Loved the personal B&B experience. Good host. Good, quiet location for city sightseeing.
Soundproofing between rooms not the greatest.
The hotel is not mainstream, it has catered for all our needs. Our room is super size. It is located 15 minutes walk from centre. We have really enjoyed L' Arene
the feeling of being in a French house
the builder renovating opposite..no worries though!! perhaps the breakfast could have been more..however I did not go hungry so maybe unfair
Very nice 18th century character house, with a mixture of period and new decoration. Excellent location near to the city centre, & with excellent facilities.
