The ambience and the host were excellent. The evening meal was one of the best I have ever eaten.
Nothing to dislike
This place has stunning views of the Dordogne with a lovely terrace for eating and taking a glass or two of wine. The rooms were spacious and nicely decorated in French art nouveau stlye. We enjoyed two gormet evening dinners during our four night stay. The proprietor is an absolutely excellent cook. Everything we ate and drank was lovely, good coffee, nice home made preserves with our continental, breakfast. Evening dinners were fabulous gastronomic treats which we would highly recommend to others.
We would have liked the rooms to be given a quick service clean, or at the very least the en- suite bathrooms to be given a quick daily clean and the toilet rolls and shower gel replenished. During our four night stay we were not offered any clean towels and in the end we had to request a loo roll. We did managed to dy our towels daily on the window sill. Also I think the proprietor needs to invest in some new linen and towels as the current ones are discoloured and very grey rather than white. These little things would make a difference. We noted the proprietor does not have any staff to assist him with anything, so maybe he just does not have time to carry out all of the duties. I would reiterate we did enjoy our stay and would consider staying here again despite a few negatives.
Staff and the interest of everything being perfect. Lovely balcony to the river. We have been in the 4 people room that faces the road instead the river. The owners have installed new windows and air conditioned so the noise from the road is almost cero. Really tasty jams in the breakfast made by themselves. Very comfortable room.
The only issue with the 4 people room is that the description says private bathroom, but you need to go outside the room to the next door to reach the bathroom. Not a real issue.
Where possible we tend to look for the more rustic personal type of hotel, this fitted the bill. It was a little bit off the beaten track but the fabulous countryside was a joy. The rooms were clean, comfortable with a nice bathroom and the breakfast was excellent. Recommended if you like being in the country.
Not being able to enjoy an evening meal in the hotel on a Monday night, after a long day's travel it takes the shine off the stay by having to find a place to eat
back view on river for breakfast
1) front facing rooms very noisy a noisy road & very hot but if opened window too noisy 2) cash only 3) breakfast very limited - bread only - no cheese or meat or yoghurt
Wonderful company, outstanding food, kind to dog - would certainly come back again.
