Hotel was very old but lovely. Was in an ideal place within the walls. Very friendly staff. Would stay there again.
Spacious room, centre of the town
Room reeked of cigarette smoke
Great location, good value
Location! Location! Location!
The location was inside the walls. The hotel was close to the underground parking garage outside the walls. The rooms were clean. The hotel was on a busy street, but when the window was closed it was quiet. The staff was very helpful.
To park inside the walls is arcane. Adding the additional expense of 34 euros for parking we could have easily upgraded to a more expensive hotel.
Well the stairs are a bit of a drag but we stayed for 6 nights so cases up once then down at the end and we think despite that its worth staying there
Ideal location for exploring St Malo inside the walls and plenty of eating places.
Lack of parking near the Hotel. Warning signs everywhere about being towed away but none actually telling one where to park overnight.
Old city, close to the beach, bars etc.
Inside the old walled city. Close to all the sights. Good price.
Paid wifi. Over 2 bars...VERY loud at night (not for light sleepers). Room smelled a bit stale.
The room was in the attic with one window in the roof! There was no-where to put clothes (no wardrobe and one shelf). The 56 spiral steps were daunting. Could just about fit into shower. The night time noise from the bar next to the hotel was very, very noisy.
Location and helpful staff.
Although clean room lacked comfort being too basic and small and in need of redecoration though everything worked. The access was up a narrow spiral staircase which was quite shabby.
The location is perfect, in a heart of the walled city and near parking ( 2 minutes). I love the hotel as it's like a antique inn.
As the house is nearly 300 years old then it's not very comfort: room is quite tiny.
Scruffy, tramps outside, spiral staircase too dangerous as handrail insecure on wall, lights didn't work on stairs at night, door on room insecure as had been forced previously! Grotty hotel! On 4th floor and no lift. No mention on booking that people with mobility problems shouldn't book this hotel!
The micro-brewery at the back of the bar is a unique feature of this quaint hotel. We keep coming back to this hotel because of its charm and the warm welcome we receive.
Location Price Breakfast Friendly staff Bedroom
Noise from the bar
Staff were friendly, its locations is a good plus.
No elevator in the hotel and stairs were extremely narrow, especially to carry a luggage.
We spent 2 weeks touring France, and this is by far the worst place we stayed (and not the cheapest!) It was poorly lit and dismal, only one small towel provided, no toiletries, hairdryer, or mirror in room. Curtain hooks missing so curtain falling off window. Glass shelf in bathroom broken with jagged edges.Shower temperature too hot to use, impossible to regulate.Extremely noisy at night (Shouting and singing under window til 3 am, but unbearably stuffy when window closed) We booked breakfast for 8am but no sign of life until 8.15. There are much nicer places to stay in St Malo, we certainly won't come here again
Best bargain and nice location! Rooms are small but clean
Budget hotel located in a back street in a central position close to the main entrance. There is an underground supermarket nearby, great for picknics on the beaches. Has it's own micro brewery
Don't expect luxury, no lifts, no tea coffee making facilities, etc but the hotel does have charm. Highly recommended.
we liked everything!
Le Port Malo is in the old walled city Just a few hundred meters walk and boom there is the English channel and the old castle. Beautiful , very clean coast line and a great way to waste a day exploring. Be warned we stayed for two days , we were following the 2013 Tour de France cycling race and it was mid July but still needed a medium weight jacket , even during the day. It was chilly cool but not freezing cold.
Not that I did not like this as I have years of experience driving in Europe , but no street signs and streets are very narrow in the Old City. This is to be expected as these are the same 500 year old roads for the 14th and 15th centuries. We did not eat at hotel but there is a bar/rest. In hotel which stays open until 2am and another right across the very narrow alleyway. Noise could bother some folks but as it was very cool at nights , we had the window on that side of street closed. Room was ok , bed not that great but we lived and enjoyed our time.
location. it is just in the centre of Sant Malo - Intra Muros - and very easy to get from railway station and from port
bar across the road is very close to hotel and very noisy - until 2 in the morning EACH NIGHT!!! it is absolutely impossible to sleep
- position very good, in intra-muros, but a side of main turistic streets
- no breakfast included
