Very good,
Score from 77 reviews
“Beautiful building in a very peaceful spot. Our room wasn't large but I think it was one of the cheapest, however it had a fantastic view over the Loire. Expensive meal in the restaurant but one of the best we had while in France. Worth it for a treat. All staff seemed to be fluent in English.”

Our charming manor house dating from the 12th and 16th centuries, looks out over the Loire River and its islands. This is the place to stay for anyone on a culinary Tour de France. In the distance is King René's 15th century fairytale castle dominating this pastoral scene and the medieval town of Saumur. Gleaming white, Le Prieuré has a stately presence with its vast chimneys and imposing towers as it stands proudly within its 62-acre wooded park that extends down to the river. The interiors have a spacious grandeur with a wonderful spiral staircase, great carved fireplaces, canopied beds and antique furniture. The hotel boasts a creative cuisine in the finest culinary tradition of Angers. The area is famous for its mushrooms that come from the nearby Tufa caves; salmon, perch and eel from the river; and excellent local wines: Saumur, Anjou, Layon and Champigny, a delightful méthode champenoise. Hotel Rooms: 36, Hotel Chain: Grandes Etapes Françaises. Most recent booking for this hotel was today at 16:15 from France.

The view was great, the room delightful and we were impressed by the helpfulness of the staff both in reception and at dinner. The tv should have a limit on the volume level or the sound proofing between rooms needs to be improved. That said, the staff were very helpful in requesting that the occupant of the next door room turn down the tv. The breakfast is in my view over-priced bearing in mind that the rooms are not inexpensive.

Superb location, great views, impressive public areas 1. The superior room we were offered on arrival was far from "superior". It was a small garret room with a lobby containing an additional bed. Presumably it was this space that made it "superior" though it was unusable except for the 3rd bed and so added no value for us. The room contained 2 small windows which one had to stand up to see out. When we complained we were moved to a suite at an extra charge of $40 per night. My understanding of this was that it was a deliberate ploy to force us to upgrade. 2. The spiral stairs make it difficult for people who are not very spritely!

Wonderful location on the banks of the Loire. Our room (we were upgraded) had a huge terrace overlooking the river. Bathroom was a little old fashioned but perfectly acceptable. Charming staff and very good food and wine.

Efficient easy going staff. Stunning view of The Loire from our room. Gourmet dinner well up to standard (small portions!). We took our dog who was just as welcome and could have joined us for dinner if we had brought her into the dining room. It's looking slightly old and worn although that maybe the effect they are after. Very old building plumbing etc

Excellent restaurant staff We were allocated one of the "cottages" in the grounds which was just a glorified motel room at 4 star prices. Apart from a splendid view from the bar & restaurant we fail to see how this hotel gets a 4 star rating. The food was good but a meal at the only restaurant in the village was equal to it and less than half the price. How anyone can justify 21 Euros per person for continental breakfast.

The service-minded staff, the view from the restaurant. Excellent dinner and wines - we strongly recommend to choose the Menu Sensational with recommended wines. The waiter gave us excellent hints how to continue our trip in France. We followed his great advice - many thanks for him! The quality of our room in the basement floor did not full-fill our expectations. When booking this hotel we recommend to check and confirm the room location (upper floors and quality level). The double room bed is too small to couple - at least for us:).

The location is fantastic. The room was beautifully decorated and had a tremendous view of the Loire and the evening meal was outstanding, with excellent service as well. The "heated" swimming pool was cool rather than heated, but we did have it all to ourselves

The views were spectacular, but Breakfast service was very poor attitude from the waiting staff was not helpful, but the Reception staff were very helpful,, which we did mention on booking out. Attitude fron the Breakfast restaurant staff was very poor, not at all helpful and a full breakfast was costing 21 euros, but there was notihing but sausages to have , no plates no glasses we only eat there for one breakfast, instead of 2 .
