The hostess was a little strange. We were an hour late because of traffic problems on the way, and she was very upset by our late arrival. I can understand this, because she had to serve dinner, but she looked upset and agitated next morning when we came down to breakfast around 10 am. She said she was planning to take the breakfast away and seemed very tense and nervous. For such an expensive B@B, the hostess could be more accommodating and friendly. Also I do not understand why people rave about breakfast there. It was a typical country-side French breakfast: jams (home-made but this is not a rare thing in France), bread, butter, not-so-great coffee and instant chocolate. Nothing really to rave about. She also never show up while we had breakfast - she went cleaning other rooms and did not bother about us. Besides, the owner charged 25 euros for each of our two children, including 3-years old. We knew that from the moment of reservation, and I agreed, however, I still find such expense kind of unfair.
The place was very unique, beautiful and, in spite of being an ancient castle, was very comfortable. It is very close to famous abbey and a picturesque village of Lagrasse, and close to Carcasson. The home-made looked very nice but we had no time to try it. The swimming pool area looked beautiful but the cold wind did not allow us to use it that day. The bathroom was beautiful, spacious and clean, yet lacked any shampoo or soap that were provided in other, cheaper guest houses we stayed in.
