Parking is the only thing which was a bit of a problem (not enough space)
Could only stay one night but will return. Wonderful location, atmosphere and of course food not to mention the hospitality. Loved the place
We stayed here last year a as a stop over on our way to Spain, it was excellent, so we did it again. Quite and beautiful location. Not too far off the main motorway but away from the main tourist hotels. B&B Good Bed and Great food.
Everything. The table d'hôtel and communal dining in "open barn" was an unforgettable experience.

Shower didn't drain that well
A tranquil village, a Medieval pile of stones cleverly adapted into accommodations, soft beds, wonderful food, beautiful surroundings, pleasant guests. It was magic.
location is superb, decor is stylish, breakfast is great, room was quirky and delightful. a fantastic place to relax and soak up the atmosphere
This guesthouse was an absolute charmer -- finding our way through the reception room, the breakfast room, the guest rooms and the pool were a bit of a labyrinth, but what a delightful maze! Breakfast was amazing, with a delicious variety of home made jams (of which we bought a few jars to take home). The room was spacious enough, and the bathroom even more so. Linens were clean, and despite the heat outside, we were comfortable without using the air conditioning. We were just passing through on our way home from the Pyrenees, and this was a great little stop. Pity we didn't have a chance to take advantage of the pool....
There is nothing that we found disagreeable with this guesthouse. Everything was great.
Lovely quaint building In beautiful countryside Great homemade food
Rooms was a little small The Landlady was a little on the strict side and was not too flexible.
Charming- couldn't ask for more. .
Very beautiful chateau, lovely detail with fixtures and fittings, lovely views.Great food for dinner prepared by the owner.
The venue is situated on top of a small village that does not have a shop, restaurant or bar.... the nearest place to go for an evening meal is a 15 min drive awy in Lagrasse and even then there was only 1 restaurant open . However that the waitress told us we had to order by 2100pm! Food was not that great, an anti climax at the end of the day meal and evening atmosphere wise. Nothing going on in or around the Chateau in the evening unless you want to take a chance and minlge with the other few guests if they are there !
Location and general environment.
Attitude, service, willingness to be helpful...
The place was very unique, beautiful and, in spite of being an ancient castle, was very comfortable. It is very close to famous abbey and a picturesque village of Lagrasse, and close to Carcasson. The home-made looked very nice but we had no time to try it. The swimming pool area looked beautiful but the cold wind did not allow us to use it that day. The bathroom was beautiful, spacious and clean, yet lacked any shampoo or soap that were provided in other, cheaper guest houses we stayed in.
The hostess was a little strange. We were an hour late because of traffic problems on the way, and she was very upset by our late arrival. I can understand this, because she had to serve dinner, but she looked upset and agitated next morning when we came down to breakfast around 10 am. She said she was planning to take the breakfast away and seemed very tense and nervous. For such an expensive B@B, the hostess could be more accommodating and friendly. Also I do not understand why people rave about breakfast there. It was a typical country-side French breakfast: jams (home-made but this is not a rare thing in France), bread, butter, not-so-great coffee and instant chocolate. Nothing really to rave about. She also never show up while we had breakfast - she went cleaning other rooms and did not bother about us. Besides, the owner charged 25 euros for each of our two children, including 3-years old. We knew that from the moment of reservation, and I agreed, however, I still find such expense kind of unfair.
Everything was just perfect, the location, the host, the breakfast! A must while visiting the south of France!
The atmosphere in this amazing property really takes some beating ! We were fascinated by the layout, with dining rooms on one side of the tiny "street" and accommodation on the other, both in restored (by Mme Helene) ancient houses built centuries ago within the castle walls when the population were threatened by invaders. The evening meal was 5* and made even more enjoyable by our dining "en famille" with other guests. Would love to return
Wonderful location; gracious host; delicious breakfast; lovely room and spotless facilities
The hot water was scalding. One has to be very careful with the tap.
* Novelty of staying in an ancient building. * Scenery nearby: trees, mountains, river. * Terrace. * Our Host. * Dinner :)
* Could clearly hear noise made by other guests.
Excellent hostess, originality great location, food excellent
Le Roc sur l'Orbieu is a fantastic place to stay. We've got some experience in French hotels and so far this was our best stay. At the beginning of may the surroundings blossom with roses and poppies. Fresh air and birds singing day and night - what can be more delightful? Breakfasts offered by our host, Mme. Helene Carreaud were exceptional! Homemade jams were my favorites. The room was very clean and cosy. Modern equipment and historical atmosphere made us feel really comfortable and peaceful. You are surrounded by genuine things - this is a fantastic feeling. The fireplace in the lounge takes you a few centuries back! Our three-year old son felt wonderful in such unusual surroundings. The village is very small and peaceful, there is a playground in an easy walking distance from the hotel. Restaurants and small gift and antique shops are easy to reach by car. But you should try (at least once) to dine in the hotel. Mme. Helene is a wonderful cook able to prepare and serve a truly French dinner in an exquisite manner. She uses local produce when cooking both breakfasts and dinners. Mme. Helene is also very helpful with tourist information. She consulted us on the nearest flea markets and etc. Many of the Cathar castles are easy to reach by car (Carcassonne is about 40 min away). All the nearest roads are used by numerous cyclists, so watch out for them when driving. Major routes (A61 and A9) are very close, which makes this place easily acceptable for those traveling from Spain or the French coast.
Le Roc sur l'Orbieu is a unique B&B, situated in the ruins of a thousand-year-old chateau in a very small village, extremely convenient for exploring the Cathar castles and coastal cities of the Languedoc region. The proprietress, Mme. Helene Carreaud, has beautifully renovated the property and decorated it with antiques and period furniture. At the same time the rooms are new and extremely comfortable, with modern touches (like the kingsize waterbed we slept on). Mme Helene is a wonder, running the place by herself, preparing delicious breakfasts from local ingredients, and offering fabulous home-cooked dinners, with unlimited local wines, which we shared with six delightful people from three different countries. Mme is warm and friendly, full of stories about the place, multilingual, and utterly charming and modest. The entire property is beautiful, atmospheric and idyllic, and you are made to feel extremely special. All this at a very reasonable price. This is a remarkable experience, highly recommended.
Ambience food (free breakfastss were very sustaining as well as the conversation with the owner. parking easy, location unbelievable! Madame Carreaud was a most excellent host.
Empty over here.!!!!@
The table de note dinners were excellent...a very unique and memorable experience.
Beds a bit uncomfortable.
This place is located a very rural setting. The lady looking after the place was lovely. She met us at check-in, she cooked and served dinner for 12 people and did the wash-up after our meal without any help. She served breakfast the following morning and then checked us out. Don't know how she did it but she was great.
There appeared to be an overbooking situation in our case which meant we ended up in an holiday house on the site not normally rented to guests and which was definitely not up to the standard required to rent to the tourist public. It was damp, the bed was awful, the furniture was substandard, the water was cold so no shower, really the worst night's sleep we had to endure on this trip. I'm sure the bedroom accommodation normally available to guests was of a much better standard than we ended up with but I still think I'll give this place a miss next time I'm in the vicinity.
the host, the room and the location. a perfect homy place to stay for exploring the area and an excellent breakfast to begin your day. We will certainly come back in Spring or Summer to enjoy all what this wonderful place can offer
Helen, the owner, is a lovely person. The position of the establishment is interesting, being the restored part of a chateau. Furnishings and workmanship are in keeping with the age of the building. It is worth the experience just to stay there. It is run on trust where the bar is concerned.
