Location and staff are wonderful!
The welcome from the patron, his wife and staff. There is an excellent bus service in both directions (to and from sncf station and city centre) and the tramway is in the next street parallel, 50 metres. There is a bar, always useful for hot and cold drinks of which latter there is a really good selection.
The hotel has no lift. The review that I had read didn't rate the hotel much but was zealous about its restaurant, so much so that I ate in the restaurant that first night. This was a dreadful mistake and although it was very cheap - 11 euros for three courses - the standard of the food was very low. I certainly won't be eating there again.
I have read the negative comments about Le Vaucelles and don't agree. While it is not the Hyatt Regency, that is not what you pay for. The staff were helpful and friendly despite my terrible French. The room was clean and comfortable and the shower was hot. I had dinner in the restaurant one evening and it was simple but well cooked and filling. Location for me was perfect, close to train and the city.
Decent size room, with basin. Location was good, trams outside door and only about 5 min from Caen station. Excellent if all you require is somewhere to crash on a night time.
Only one shower for all the rooms, however as I was up early it was free when I wished to use it. Could imagine a queue forming later morning.
They went above and beyond all and any expectations. I will definitely be visiting again!! Could not have asked for a better time!!

Nice brasserie, nice staff and very clean communal areas, just one block from the station and all kinds of amenities.
WiFi just didn't work for me and I really needed it. Room could have been fresher, although sink and bedlinen were spotless.
We had a meal at this hotel which was very good.
The bedroom with ensuite hadn t been decorated for a good while but the thing that astonished us was that shower unit, toilet and washbasin were all in the main room. In all my years of travelling I have never seen anything like it. And then there was the bad drain smell - it was awful. We didn't sleep much.
Location was excellent.
Our own fault. Price was very good and we got what we paid for.
Staff were very friendly and accommodating..... The area was alright and the rooms had all the basic needs.... Perfect stop over hotel.....
There was a bed.
Toilet has a good view of the courtyard. Bed has a good view of the toilet. Security code for after hours access did not work, was locked out until another first let me in. Internet access was terrible, barely accessible even after you get through that absurd splash screen. And it wasnt that cheap. Prices on the door were better.
If all yoou need is a roof over your head, you´ve come to the right place. The owners were rude and we payed for a lot of things that were not there/functioning. Yes the room had an en suite bathroom, i.e. a carboard box wich they had managed to squeeze a toilet sink and shower in. I wouldn´t have minded so much if it actually worked. The lid for the toilet did not stay open because it hit the basin. The shower was hard to get in and out of because first of all it was really small, i had no idea they made them that small, and second the door hinged in a really akward spot so it wouldn´t collide with the sink. There was no phone in the room and the WIFI they claim to have is a free city network that you have to log into with email! The place is at a short distance from the center, around the corner from a seks shop and some other questionable establishments. I did not feel very safe. The owners were not helpful. We asked about parking and they showed us a place with 2 hour meters. The fire alarm went off one night. All the guests were outside, the owners were awol. The police/fire department never showed up. Eventually it stopped. One person was still trying to get a hold of the owners when others went back in... We never did get a hold of the owners and when we asked about it later, what had happened, the woman said they were checking all the rooms to make sure everybody made it out, the guy said they were somewhere else. Not very concerned, not safe at all. The owners just want to sit in the bar with the locals and drink. All in all a trip I won´t easily forget but I would never recommend it.
Located near train station. Front desk personnel were kind. Grocery store across street. Bathroom in the room. Nothing fancy, basic hotel motel.
The bathroom in the room had no walls....so you will have to shower/use toilet with discretion if you are sharing a room with friends. :) Also, none of my credit cards worked, though that may be due to the CC companies.
Location is good and they are very nice with smiling
Can't access wifi in room
Room OK for the price I guess.
The loo actually in the room, with no proivacy at all, might be OK for someone alone, but is not necessarily to everyone's taste in a couple. Staff forgot to give me the code for the wifi, so when I came back late, I couldn't use it. The price on the door was less than the price I was charged thru booking.com. A first. The proprietors have only been there for a few weeks, allegedly. They're going to have to sort out quite a lot of stuff, including basic honesty, before I go there again.
The hotl has a very good position because it's easy to reach both the city centre and the railway station on foot.
There is nothing actually "wrong" with this hotel, but I think that 30€ for a very cold room, with shared toilet and shower, is a little too much. The room was clean, but in the only night in which I stayed at the hotel I felt very cold! I stayed at Les Vaucelles the 10th April, and I suppose they had already switched off the heating sistem.
