My wife and I were on our Honeymoon and we decided to stay at this hotel on a recommendation by an acquaintance and the good reviews on this site. It could not have been a worse experience than it was. Let me elaborate.
Before we went to the hotel, we called and asked them to help us find a taxi from the train. They told me that they couldn’t help me but I was sure to find a taxi when we got to Epernay. Sadly, this was completely inaccurate. Thankfully, I had purchased a prepaid phone and I was able to google a local cab company. This was clearly a mistake. When I told the driver that the residential neighborhood he was driving us through was not on the way to the hotel. He turned off the meter for a few minutes but still managed to charge us 75 Euro. To skip ahead for a moment, When I met a friend in Epernay, he gave me a card for a driver who took us on the same trip, cost 50 Euro and picked us up in a Mercedes. When I told the concierge about the experience, she told us that it was just bad luck.
After we checked in to our room, and were about to unpack our bags, we noticed tiny bugs covering the walls, curtains, and bed. We walked down to the concierge across the street who told us she would find us another room. She gave us new keys and we went to see the new room. Not only was it a smaller room, but the bed was smaller and it did not have the private terrace that we paid for. To make it worse. It was also covered in bugs. Again, we went to the concierge to tell her about the problem. She actually told me that there were bugs in every room and that it was totally normal for Champagne this time of year. The staff must have assumed (incorrectly) that I didn’t speak French because they had some very choice words to say about my wife and I. Somewhat outraged, I called a vigneron in Épernay to ask him if this was true. He was shocked. We tried to find another place to stay but we were unsuccessful.
I can honestly say that there is nothing I liked about this hotel.
