Beautiful old building full of character. Good low cost option for the area.
Very strong smell of smoke, especially on the towels.
We were attending a wedding in the area and the staff were very helpful giving us access codes to the front door as we knew we would be late back from the wedding reception very friendley staff and the rooms were very comfortable. Very good value for money
Location is good, nice environment, nice stuff.
Close to main road, had rooms just in front of reception, so a bit noisy in the morning.
I will only say we will NOT be going back to that hotel.
Location, fantastic. Building and grounds, fantastic. Close to the auto route.
Interior needs updating, plumbing,shower, bath.
The setting opposite the river Loire was beautiful
The owners had worked on the garden, at the expense of the interior, Toilet bidet and bath were dirty and in poor repair. Bathroom and bedroom had not been cleaned to any decent standard, and throw on bed had not been cleaned, shame because it could be beautiful
The setting was very pretty, big French house set in its own grounds. Convenient to the motorway but far enough away to feel a world away. Lovely walk along the river in the evening
Rooms an bathrooms are very tired and all felt a bit grubby. Spent an hour walking along river (lovely pretty walk) but couldn't find anywhere to eat. We didn't really want to drive anywhere else as had done a lot of driving that day. Are at the water park nearby in the end - ok but mass produced camp site style place - not our kind of thing!
The location was great and it was a fair value for the price. It was fine for one night but we would not have been happy there for longer. And again, the staff was very friendly.
The beds were SO uncomfortable. The rooms were non-smoking which was great but the staff smoked in the lobby so the rooms smelled like smoke anyway.
Helpfulness of staff; location
Quality of bedding, although the beds were not uncomfortable. I think the mattresses and linen need to be updated
1850's vintage hotel. New owners in last two years, working very hard to make it shine again. Views out the windows are very picturesque. Located in the Vouvray wine region and great location for touring the area.
Nice people, good breakfast, convenient location and parking.
No problem with our pet. Very good brekfast in time.
Clean quality hotel in a nice quiet position. Would use it again for sure. Good value
They have easy access from the motorway and are situated in an interesting area to walk. The staff was very cordial and helpful. I didn't need food as I had mine with so I have no views about this aspect.
Les Fontaines is very quaint. If you are looking for a luxury hotel don't stay there. However, if you are looking for a pleasant place to stay with very friendly staff and can accept the quaintness this is most definitely worthy of consideration. The building is old and some would say tired, and definitely would benefit from some tlc, however it is a fantastic building and very close to the Loire. It was warm, clean and quiet and the staff were very friendly. It's situated less than 3 hours from many of the cross Channel ports and is only a couple of minutes off the a10 Peage. The Wi-Fi is very fast and free - another plus point. Yes you can stay at more expensive hotels that might have better decor, but it probably won't be cleaner, warmer or friendlier and you'll probably pay for a slow Wi-Fi connection.
Frankly there was nothing we didn't like. For a traveller looking for an evening meal on arrival they'd be disappointed to have to head into Vouvray or Tours so eat before you arrive or be prepared to head out for a meal after unpacking.
Nice quiet location just outside Tours, with very friendly staff.
Charming building, but parts of it are in dire need of renovation, and cleanliness needs to be improved - there were cobwebs in our room.
Clean, Friendly, Good Service, delightfully Old Fashioned - would recommend
Close to numerous chateaus along the Loire Valley. Quaint old chateau style property. Owners very friendly and helpful. Would stay here again.
Beds on the hard side. Very few choices of eating establishments in the close area.
The place had a lot of character because its an old mansion. I had a really nice room with space. Everything was antique and the bath was deep like a sit in bath whilst you shower. Set back Off the main road. Walking track along the river nearby and nice restaurant just down the road. Good if you don't want to be in the noisy busy centre but 10minutes drive from centre so may not suit all. Very convenient for visit to Amboise.
I could hear 2 people snoring which was kind of funny. The floor boards creak with everyone's footsteps but its all part of the experience.
The outside Decor
the fact tha t the toilet didnt have a sink to wash your hands, had to walk to the other side of the room not very hygenic !! the doors for the toilet and the shower werent the best, not very private... and it was very damp in the room ,we appreciate its a very old property, but with bit of attention itcould be a very comfortable property .......and it was a very long walk to the nearest restaurant ....
The staff were friendly and helpful, and had good English skills despite this hotel being located in a rural area of France. The beds were comfortable and the room a nice size. The breakfast was nice if a bit expensive at 8 Euro each.
The building is in serious need of refurbishment. The room we shared was fine, though there was water damage on the ceiling clearly caused by cracked or missing tiles, and the 'shower' was simply a shower head on a hose fitted into the bath. Our friends, however, had a much worse room; it had been converted from the attic, so it was tiny, the walls and ceiling were covered in very old-fashioned wallpaper, with a vacuum toilet in the bathroom, and the whole room smelled of cigarette smoke. This could be a really lovely little place to stay, and we suspect that the owners are trying to use the revenue from their guests to do it up, but I would warn those looking at this hotel to be aware that while the photos suggest it is a quaint little hotel, in reality at present it is rather dilapidated.
Not much unfortunately
This hotel looks fantastic from the outside - wonderful grounds and gorgeous building, until you step inside. You are greeted by an awful smell of air freshener trying to disguise cigarette smoke which has permeated throughout the building. Upon arrival, we were acknowledged but not greeted in an acceptable manner. The first room was completely unacceptable, with a small plunge bath, electric toilet and no water pressure! As we were about to leave and cancel our reservation, we were shown to another room. Better than the first but there was no door on the bathroom (but luckily had a separate toilet with a door), again the water pressure was non-existent, damp was apparent on the ceiling from the floor above. This place is in need of serious repair work. A real shame as it is a lovely building and good location.
Compared to UK standards it was a bit basic. We probably would have been better booking somewhere like Ibis, etc.
Breakfast good value
Beautiful old house with "antique" furniture and a beautiful yard. Very romantic place. Despite the fact that the house is old, the shower was a modern. There was an outdoor terrace with our room.
