Les Gens De Mer - Marseille  

The location was good as it was close to Vieux Port and the Metro.

The bar was not open / available.

We had a good stay staff was very helpful for the money was a very nice place.

not enough instructions in english the ac could not be adjusted luckily it was not that hot.

The hotel is in a fairly quiet location. The staff speak some English and are friendly and helpful. My room was comfortable and clean

A larger bathoroom would have been good

Free parking. We were given a comfortable room in floor 4 with nice view of the city. Receptionist very gentle.

It was very difficult/impossible to regulate the water temperature when taking a shower

As marseille is not really a place to visit at this time and the location is a bit out ther I had to mention this so you get the picture, breakfast could use a few more options but in general the French aren't big on breakfast.

Location is 3 blocks away from metro station. Private parking is a plus for 7.50. Breakfast for 8.00. Excellent staff.

A very pleasant, safe and well-run hotel, approximately 200 metres from the Joliette Metro Station and also the Tram Stop. Les Gens de Mer has a "nautical" theme/appearance and is part of a chain of maybe 8 or 9 hotels located around France at seaports. The room was clean, airconditioned and quite satisfactory for the price, the staff polite, helpful, and eager to please, and the breakfast good and plentiful. In summer it is possible to eat outside in the pleasant and quiet garden/courtyard.

Marseille is by nature a noisy city,and those in bedrooms overlooking the street, may well hear traffic noise. Other rooms overlook the garden/courtyard and I would guess these are much quieter. Staying 6 days/5 nights at Les Gens de Mer, I would very much have appreciated being offered one of the quieter rooms!

It bacame beter after redecoration. Air condition appeared. The hotel's parking lot is very important. Its presence compensate the fact that this hotel is 10-15 minutes walking distance from the Old Port. From the other side, this location is very good for those who starts from here to the Airport.

Location was a good drive from the port and the shower was not very powerful.

The room was very very small. There was air condition which is a big advantage as we were using it frequently. Helping staff. Charming small garden.

The carpet in rooms and in the corridor stinked. There was poor ventilation in the bathroom. The shower was small and when we used it we flooded the bathroom.

The hotel was quiet, clean and comfortable. The staff were very courteous and spoke good English. We did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on the food. The location suited us well.

Personnel at reception is very friendly and supportive. Room is small but clean. Free WiFi.

Do not leave your money at the hotel rooms, we were stolen some from the room.

City centre location at excellent value. Lovely couryard for breakfast and relaxing. Best breakfast we had in France in a long time.

Unfortunate to be in a room overlooking road the first night -noisy. But had no problem in changing to a room overlooking courtyard the following night. Very quiet for a city centre hotel

Cost-effective; near a metro station and also beach side; the breakfast is also nice.

I stayed at lgdm last October, on my first trip to beautiful Marseille. My first stay was in a standard room, which was satisfactory, but this time, I stayed in a "comfort" room, which had some extra space and a view over the courtyard, with fountain, which was lovely. Had breakfast, always fresh and good, in the garden and fed the birds. Hotel was minutes away from Le Joliette metro to the station and everywhere, and 10 mins from the centre of Le Panier, then a short walk to Le Vieux Port. Access to my email etc on hotel computer, and snacks/soft drinks available in the evenings. Great little Corsican r/rant a few minutes away.The staff were fantastic, friendly, helpful and efficient.Will definitely stay again.

As with all hotels, noisy people in the next room who left the tv on at full volume, and slammed doors at 2am. Lack of a restaurant for evening dinner/ bar selling alcohol, which meant I had to go out to eat a full meal at night. I am a seasoned traveller and have lived in Tunis and Naples, therefore quite street savvy as regards being a lone female traveller, but would have welcomed staying and eating at the hotel on a few nights, then taking my drink into the courtyard, and enjoying the atmosphere. Otherwise, there was nothing I did not like.

I travelled with my girlfriend for Bank Holiday weekend. We both liked the fact that the distance from main train station to the hotel was ok - there was no need for getting a taxi. Also the port and tourist information is about 15 minutes walk from the hotel and there is a big supermarket around the corner and good shops and shopping centre in the area. The room was clean. Basic but for the price of 54eur per night for the 2 of us it was ok. Also the evening reception staff - a chap from Madagascar was really nice and very helpful giving us loads of advice on visiting places and getting around. He even offered ordering a pizza for us when we have arrived at the hotel late in the evening. He should be really moved to work day shifts. Say what you want but most tourists speak English, not French even when in France. He is a great asset to this place and he would be better of working days and talking to people in both - French and English.

Front desk staff working day shifts doesn't speak English at all. We do get the idea that French is the official language in Marseille but without Spanish we would not be even able to book extra night. Luckily if you speak Spanish you are safe. Also rooms facing the street may be considered noisy by some. For us personally this wasn't an issue though.

The price is ok. The staff was friendly and helpful.

The hotel's room should be renovated. The bathroom is in terrible condition. It is forbiden to eat in the room - I've never seen such restriction in others hotel. Dirty windows.
