With its early 20th century architecture, Hotel Excelsior sits in Tines, the last village in the Chamonix Valley. It offers panoramic views of the Mont Blanc mountain range.

We have chosen to have dinner in the hotel restaurant based on the great reviews we've read. The food was a big disappointment from starter (some very salty cheese pastry) to main dish (fatty beef made in wine and tagliatelle (?!)) and dessert (supposed to be a mousse, but we've received one kiwi and some coffee ice cream). Also we have left some play cards, water and chips in the living room area and went for a walk and they have all just "vanished" without being able to recover them. The view from my room was amazing, even when I didn't book a 'room with a view'. The hotel is advertised as being in Chamonix, but it really is in the nearby town of Les Tinnes. There are two buses connecting both sites but only go one every hour and the last one is at 7:30 pm. Not very practical if you want to have dinner in the town (there is nothing nearby the hotel). So, the way to go is either by taking a taxi or walking along the road for about 40 minutes. The walk is pleasant, but at night, not very practical. Did you find this review helpful?	9.2

Staff was friendly and did attempt to be helpful...even though they were limited in what they could do. Location was good. Clearly understaffed in the restaurant. Took us 1.5 hours and not all of our meals had come out yet. On check in the staff said there was an accident in our room and they had to put us in a triple room with a cot. This was smaller than the quad we had booked and the cot was faily uncomfortable. The last night we had no hot water...due to late oil delivery.
