A typica lmedieval french coaching inn with a tower which encloses the winding stone staircase, no lift however. The garage is approached through a narrow arched gateway off the street and through a couple of small courtyards. The number of roosting pigeons appear to have diminished recently in the garage with a corresponding reduction in the guano. Maybe pigeon breasts in red wine could be included on the menu. The mirrored dining room is elegant and comfortable in the french style the tables being reasonably spaced, service is good and the food excellent. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We have stayed here many times and will continue to return, it is one of our favourite stops in france. Do take advantage of the hotel stop to explore old Valogne

Marvellous food. Attentive, friendly staff. It is an ancient creaky building but this made it interesting.

Not much but we would warn about very narrow entrance to car park but having a car park in a town centre was a bonus. Also, if parking in the covered area, beware of pigeon poo from overnight roosting birds; our car was plastered in it! Plumbing is a bit noisy and water took an eternity to exit basin but these are minor concerns.

we booked two triple rooms when we arrived they were one double and a single as a triple room (not three singles) cost me extra (350 euros) not happy

Architecturally a gem: an ancient coaching lodge with an amazing old stabling complex and barn used as a huge and very secure car park. Rooms adequate but badly in need of redecoration and renovation. Pleasant if rather stiffly formal restaurant.

Rather cool welcome: staff were not easily found with a slightly inefficient feel. Very few staff were smiling. Beautiful old coach house with huge potential : largely unrealised. Restaurant promised much but delivered little: my fish was overcooked and my craquante des fraises was spongy and soft. The approach to English speakers was very unhelpful - I had to intervene to assist a Dutch group with the menu - no attempts were made to help them make choices. This I found surprising in a region dominated by uk tourists. The hotel served our purposes as an overnight stay before taking the ferry home- but I wouLd not recommend the restaurant and I would not stay there again. The unfriendliness of the place was overt.

Great place to stay, I'd recommend it without any reserve. From the very beginning it feels like being carried back into the 19th century. Its decor, the rustic courtyard, the nice creak of the wooden floor all contribute to this charm. We were in luck and got the chance to stay in room 4, the most charming of all since a French decadent 19th century writer lived there. My advice, have dinner at the hotel restaurant. Furnished as a Victorian tea room, we tasted mesmeric regional dishes, exquisitely presented while enjoying background classical music. Plus, the staff are warm and welcoming making the whole stay even more pleasant.

Traditional French family hotel run by English speaking lady owner. Could do with a lick of paint here and there but that would ruin the classic french text book hotel. Stopped as an overnight stay en route with my teenage son. Would definitely return as an excellent alternative to "Travelodge" style.

Lovely old bulding in a good central location, evening meal first class presented in a a great atmosphere with helpful staff.

Room are very dated and not that clean,cobweds above bed on light fitment. Bed not good kept sinking into the middle and was kept waking up due to the poor plumbing ( can hear all other rooms toilet being fdlushed). This hotel need money spent on it as it could be so much better.

The room was spacious and very clean, if a bit old fashioned. It is a typical old style hotel. The breakfast was okay, good coffee.

The entrance to the cark park is very sharp adn almost impossible with a big car, but there is plenty of safe parking on the road outside, the road is very quiet at night.

Handy location, close to Cherbourg. The building is interesting in that it's quite old and has a great tower at the back. We didn't eat there (too pricey for our budget holiday) but the smells from the kitchen we're lovely! It's located in the middle of Valognes, so easy walking distance to shops, bars, restaurants, etc but the town iself isn't exactly exciting...

Very basic decor (wonky pictures, shabby furnishings, etc) but you don't expect 4 star looks at 1 star prices, so no real complaints. If you're looking for something stylish with a certain je ne sais quoi, this isn't it. If you need a room for the night before catching the ferry from Cherbourg, it does just fine. Beware of the rear parking - it's a tight squeeze to get anything other than a mini through to the large garage but we made it through without losing any paint from the side of the car.

Arrived late in the evening and the reception staff made sure we had a beverage and were settled before they left for the night. We really enjoyed our stay here as the building is what we were looking for...old and traditional. Close to everything in Valognes. All the staff we met were very hospitable and English was spoken by most.

Great staff, bicycle friendly. They even allowed me to check in very very early when it was pouring down with rain and I arrived early. Good wifi reception in the room, which is always handy.

Due to ferry delay; we arrived well into the srvice in the restaurant. However the patron informed the kitchens that there would be a further 4. We also found her to be very understanding of our young dog who after a long trip really didn't want to be indoors.

The cuisine was excellent as was the wine list.

The hotel was LOCKED when we arrived to check in (after 1600) and we had to use a back door to leave in the morning, as the Reception was not staffed.

La situation Géographique

Hotel tres tortueux,differents niveaux et escaliers sur un meme étage. Hotel trop ancien.LA Douche : moisie et pas nette. Le garage a voitures,abrite trop de pigeons qui couvres votre voiture de fientes et de plumes,tres tres désagréable.

Diner en ontbijt,waren in verhouding prijskwaliteit goed.

Er hing een briefje op de deur, inchecken was niet mogelijk pas om 17.00 uur. hotel was ook echt gesloten. Aan dit briefje was te zien dat dit er niet voor het eerst hing. Ernaast hing een briefje van de echte tijden, inchecken vanaf 15.00 uur. Bij het inchecken hebben wij kenbaar gemaakt, dat wij een uur hebben gewacht. De dame gaf als antwoord dat ze niet eerder in staat was de deur open te doen. De garage was een verzamelpunt van duiven, de hele garagevloer was bezaait met vogelpoep. Ook de auto,s die er stonden zaten onder de duivenpoep. Wij hebben onze auto dan ook maar voor op de straat geparkeerd. Wij vinden ook inchecken om 17.00 uur in je hotel erg laat. Het was voor ons een teleurstelling, mede omdat er en andere tijd op de reispapieren staan.

Nous avions réservé au départ une chambre "standart" (n°10), quel déception. Nous avons demandé si nous pouvions changer. Heureusement, nous avons pu aller dans une vraie chambre la n°5; Les chambres standarts ne sont pas adaptées, trop petites. Il ne réponde pas au Email, que nous leur envoyons.
