Chambres d'Hôtes Manoir Du Chêne

It was "rustic", and one of our group had never stayed at this type of B&B. So in that respect, it met my expectations. The breakfast area was lovely, and the croissants were excellent.

It was perhaps more "rustic" than I had anticipated. Compared to B&B's I had stayed at in a previous trip to Great Britain, it was much inferior. But, it still had a charm despite that. My other criticism is that the host did not spend any time in conversation with us. In my experience, one of the best aspects of a B&B is to chat over breakfast to learn about local culture. Perhaps he was sparing us because we didn't speak any French, and he struggled with his English, but we wish we could have learned more about the manor and its history. I don't want to sound too negative, because, in sum, we were glad we stayed at Manoir Du Chene.

Interesting accomodation, good breakfast

Had great difficulty finding it. Limited signage and arrival sign partially covered by shrubs.Bathroom down the hall. We were given no direction about time and location of breakfast. Without help from another guest we would have been completely lost. No lights left on for us when we returned at 10:00 pm one night and had to navigate from parking area to house and find the door.

The price for two people was reasonable and the breakfast was adequate

Although the madame was reasonably friendly and informed us she had cats (lots of them) there was an unpleasant smell of cat wee in the entrance courtyard. The madame told us to please keep the entrance door to the chambres closed so they could not get into the guest bedrooms which obviously worked and the bedroom was clean and odourless. Sparce facilities in the small room with nowhere to sit or relax other than lying on the small twin beds. The whole place was very run down and in need of maintenance work.

The room and hall looked unfinished and I hadn't realised that we wouldn't have a w.c. in our room with the shower.

Interesting staying in an old French manor/farmhouse. Owners trying to restore such a huge place is a real challenge and admirable.

Hard to find as no street address for gps. Signposting could be improved. Only a basic level of comfort with shared toilet with other guests and bathroom/shower arrangement cramped. Decorating style not in keeping with building with very basic furnishings. However bottom line is it wasn't expensive.

It was a very relaxing environment and due to the small number of rooms it never felt too busy even though it was full. It was close to Bayeux and surrounding areas such as Arromanche. The breakfast was lovely and the rooms were really nicely done-excellent value for money.We had to leave Chambres d'Hotes Manoir Du Chene by 7 am and the owner very kindly got up to ensure that we still has breakfast before we left.

Our hostess, Florence, was lovely. The grounds and building are authentic and very pleasant. They served terrific croissants and yogurt in the morning. The location was close to Bayeux and the D-Day beaches.

Straw mat flooring in the hallway and bedrooms were bad on our allergies.

We asked for a family room for 4 pers. And the room was nice at first. Unfortunately we had to share the toilet outside the room with other guest. You might think this is ok, however the walls to the toilet did not take the sounds. So we could here hear everything in the family room.

A different type of hotel experience with a welcoming owner. Set in a rural part of Normandy it is just 5km from Bayeux and makes an excellent stepping off point for all of the attractions in the area.

Staff are terrific. Open fireplace over breakfast very nice. Close to Beyeaux. Kids lived it.

Pillows hard. A fan in them for when it is hot would be nice. Can't open Windows.

Calm and relaxing. It's in a 18th century country house in a completely rural area and yet close to the D-Day beaches, which was the reason for our visit. A nice place to come back to after visiting the sites but it's not within walking distance of anything and there is zero transit so you must have a car and drive into Bayeux for all meals other than breakfast. Which is served in a lovely dining room with a huge fireplace with a roaring fire.

Very accommodating and helpful. A quiet location and close to where I needed to be. The only slight negative was it was difficult to find as there was a large tree covering up the sign for the entrance. Had that not been there it would have been very easy to find. Also the handmade signs directing you from the village to the manoir could have been outlined more clearly with bigger arrows pointing in their direction

The hosts were extremely gracious and down to earth (it is a working farm). While the WC was down the hall from our room (the only thing lacking for comfort), everything else was very nice indeed. Breakfast (included in the room price, which is becoming unusual) was particularly sweet, served in a separate dining room with a fire just for us. Many cats were on the premises (though they are not allowed in the visitors' rooms, so no worries about allergies) to play with. For a stay outside the blah of Caen and on the way to Bayeux, this was perfect.

Very good location. Good breakfast with home made jam. Great atmosphere in breakfast room. A lot of playful cats. Nice hosts.

Hot water runs out fast, may not be enough for a group. Only a thin sheet separates the bathroom and the room.

We enjoyed a lovely stay at Manoir Du Chene. Eric and Florence were very hospitable and helpful and went out of their way to look after us, driving my mother to a&e after she fell off her bike. The dinner we had was delicious. I would love to stay again.

nous avons ete tres bien accueillis a notre arrivee.le cadre est tres joli mais pas assez mis en valeur a notre avis.le petit dejeune etait tres bien.bonne prestation pour un prix correct.

le seul inconvenient est que de notre chambre nous entendions la douche de la chambre d a cote.un peu bruyant.

Très bon accueil, possibilité de table d'hotes sur reservation, et le repas était vraiment super! Chambre propre, la chambre pour 3 personnes a une douche et wc dans la chambre. Merci pour la recette du choco ;-)
