Great location, friendly, helpful English speaking staff, good brekkie, handy for town on free buses, good for ww2 sites. Visit le beffroye.

Baths are ok, but showers would be good.

Just very friendly and convenient with a night porter for late arrivals. A covered and locked garage for secure parking, a good breakfast. value for money. Not the first time we have stayed and it is always a pleasure to provide a positive review for good friendly service

The Metropol is a basic level hotel and the staff are friendly and helpful with information - which is what most customers need

This is a well run family hotel supported by loyal and long serving staff. Rooms are clean and tidy. The hotel is ideally situated between new and old Calais and choice of restaurants within walking distance. Ideal place for exploring Nord Pays de Calais.

The twin bed mattress was worn out and two people tend to roll together. Should have different pillow options

Our second stay in 3 months and I was greeted by the Receptionist with a big smile and her saying (in French) I recognise you thank you for returning to our hotel. I was very touched. The staff are always very friendly and helpful.

The staff were excellent and couldn't be more helpful. The ambience in the reception/bar was great with leather chesterfields and a "Gentleman's Club" feel. Breakfasts were varied and well presented.

I would have liked a shower in my room and not just an unmounted shower head running from the bath taps, and no curtain. We coped and this would not prevent my return to this hotel.

Bedrooms a little small

The staff were extremely helpful and the breakfast was the best we have ever had any time we have visited France, even bacon and egg.

Sadly we found the Hotel very dismal it is in need of a facelift, the bedrooms were very small also

Very handy location for the Calais Ville station. The hotel is mid-way between Calais town centre and the port/sea front (about 10 mins walk in each direction). We have stayed here several times; the manager and staff are always friendly and helpful. Rooms and facilities vary considerably in size and decor, and are basic but clean and adequate for 1 or 2 nights overnight stay. Tea/coffee-making facilities in the room would cost the hotel very little to provide and would increase the appeal to many UK travellers. Similarly, a bracket to hold the shower head and a shower curtain would cost very little to fit, and would make the bathroom much more useable, for people who prefer showering.

The secure garage parking is one of the main reasons for us, to stay here, but is an expensive addition to the basic room cost. To stay competitive the hotel should consider reducing (by half?) this charge or even waiving it completely, particularly for people staying for several nights. Breakfast is rather overpriced, although good when we have had it, and offers a selection of cereals, cooked items etc etc. We would prefer to have the alternative of a simpler "Continental" breakfast (e.g. no cooked items); say a warm drink/coffee and 1 or 2 croissants for a lower price, similar to offerings from local cafes (and the nearby station).

Fantastic staff and location

I liked the bath tub, because some hotels have only showers. Location was excellent. We walked to ferry terminal and took a ferry to Dover. We walked back from ferry terminal, too.

Very convenient for ferry terminal and near to restaurants. great for overnight on journeys. Nice garage for safe parking. We have stayed here many times for over 20 years .

Pokey rooms, old and in need of modernization. Booking.com offered absolutely no preferential rates over their rack rate which was very disappointing especially at Euro 76 per night. I'm sure more modern hotels are available at this sort of cost.

As always the staff are some of the best we have ever experienced in the whole of our worldly travels, well done and keep it up. It's great that there is a secure garage, much needed for wine trips to France. Convenient for good restaurants and shops in Calais. Looking forward to our next trip.

It seems in general in France that hotels do not give a shower head holder and shower curtain, which means you end up with a very wet bathroom. The pillows are typically French as well (small and square), whilst not a complaint, it would be nice to have english sized pillows, at least on offer. But these are only picky things and would not stop me staying at the Metropol Hotel

I think the outside aspect could do with a little updating and cleaning. The bathroom could also do with a little TLC.
