Room 1 on the 3rd floor is a gem .... the balcony and view of the square made me feel like Winston Churchill speaking to the nation!

Newhotel du Midi has a superb location, just off the Place de la Comédie in the city centre of Montpellier. It is also very near the train station (Montpellier St. Roch) making it an ideal choice of hotel for exploring other nearby towns and cities such as Nîmes, Sète, Avignon etc. The Comédie tram stop is about 50 metres away. The decor is very stylish and the room was spotlessly clean. Top marks for the bed - probably the comfiest ever! We did not stay for breakfast, choosing instead to eat on the Square (Le Yams at the other side of the Opera house does a very good continental breakfast for 4,50). We thought the hotel was an excellent standard for 3* and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Very convenient to train station and center of city. Nice people, small but comfortable room. Still charging for Wifi in rooms, completely unacceptable these days when every hotel everywhere offers it for free.

There was no hot water in the bathroom, so I had to take a cold shower in the am which was very uncomfortable. I mentioned during my check out to the receptionist asking for discount, they waved the breakfast fee...

An Hotel with age and character, that presented itself as if it was still in the 19th Century. The staff were friendly and the location was excellent. The bathroom, although showing a nice vintage touch, could do some form of modernisation :-)

Excellent position for the town. Comfortable bed The bedroom was incredibly dark, the lights gave out very little light and were only bedside lights. When I asked for another room I was told it was dark because it was not a sunny day but the window would not have allowed additional light in owing to the building opposite being almost within touching distance . The other room I was offered was worse (the light didn't work at all) although it did have a view. The general decor was shabby and in need of attention. The en suite was a good size -unlike the bedroom - with very good lighting but in need of updating, annoying things like the plug didn't work, the shower head was broken etc

I enjoyed having a balcony that overlooked the main square and seeing all that went on there. We could walk into the old town in less than 5 minutes and the trams were nearer than that. Staff friendly and helpfull to english who speek no french!!!. Excellent breakfast , served from 7am to 12 midday.

The location was very central. We could walk to all the sights and train station. The hotel is run down. Carpets were dirty and hotel staff were not very helpful. Very difficult to find even with a gps.

Good breakfast. Pleasant ambiance in the communal areas - hotel has an agreeable armosphere with pleasing decoration and furnishings. The allocated bedroom was of a poor standard with a broken handle on the window, shutters that didn't close, a stale smell (tobacco?) and a missing light bulb. The carpet seemed to need a good clean. The bathroom and toilet were of an acceptable standard. Whilst claiming to understand English the receptionist had difficulty with fully understanding my complaints.

The location of the hotel and the friendly reception staff. The room was a good size too. All the public rooms and corridors were very hot - we couldn't eat breakfast in the dining room as it was so hot the butter melted. This was despite the fact that our bedroom had a very effective air conditioning system

The room was nice and comfortable but the bathroom was a bit dated and there was nowhere from which to hang the shower head which made things a bit complicated! Parking is very expensive in Montpellier. We arrived on a saturday evening so it wasn't possible to find a parking space on the road. We had to pay 15euros even with the hotel discount to park for 12 hours.
