Everything you'd expect from a clean, modern hotel. Room was large and comfortable. Even had a fridge, kettle and tea making facilities. Lots of parking and an easy 10 minute stroll into Bayeux. Staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. Large Leclerc supermarket 5 mins. Drive away. Breakfast was 13 euros so went to town or Leclerc'S. If we're in the area again, we'll stay there.

I stayed at Novotel Bayeux in 2004 and found it to be very nice so i chose to stay in 2011. i found the facility to be less attractive. i think it needs an update (carpeting, etc.)

- Good location for D-Day landings beaches/museums break. - Excellent staff on Reception. - Ample parking. - Good choice of TV channels in room. - Comfortable room (not luxurious, but clean). - Excellent idea to have fridge in room. - Pleasant restaurant and bar. - Triple room requested, but only 2 towels/cups/glasses etc - however, we requested more and these were provided immediately. - Room quite small for 3 adults. - Toilet cubicle very small/cramped. - Restaurant food only fair quality and rather expensive for what you had; little choice; same menu every day.

The desk staff was very helpful with helping acclimate Americans to an unfamiliar area; they were courteous, friendly and patient when we asked questions and even gave us directions to sites we wanted to visit. The hotel also offered various times and places for us to eat.

Whilst it is outside the main centre of Bayeux, the hotel is still within reasonable walking distance of the town. Free parking facilities are good and it is well located for easy road access to the usual historic sites of the area. The hotel is 'functional' with reasonable facilities and staff were pleasant and helpful.

For those touring Bayeux, and to the Omaha beach, the location is good, The hotel staff was very helpful with directions and other inquiries. Children 16 and under stay free and breakfast is free for this age group. Room is adequate size and very clean. Plenty of free parking and free wi-fi. The breakfast was expensive at 13.50 euros per adult. Fresh fruit at breakfast consistently was old looking.

Friendly receptionist when we arrived. She was very pleasant. The hotel is very tired. The carpet in our room was dirty and stained and the bathroom smelt of drains. When this was pointed out the receptionist just shrugged his shoulders and said that he knew. It quite clearly stated that the buffet breakfast was available till 9-30. We came down at 9-15 to find the breakfast area devoid of any staff, There was some concealed and rock hard scrambled egg which were not edible with some rock hard overcooked sausages and slimy bacon swimming in water. When I went and found somebody and asked for some fresh food, they did eventually produce fresh eggs but only for me. This would have cost €13-90 per person !! When we complained, we were told that they wouldn't charge for it but we didn't eat it. Quite the worst Novotel we have ever used. We will be making an official complaint to Accor.

This hotel is not a patch on Novotel Ieper. The bar was excessively expensive, and closed early. Carpets were cheap and dirty looking, and staff were doing their best, but not as good as Ieper.

The rooms are to the standard you would expect from the chain breakfast was poor and thoroughly disorganised. Given that the soap etc was replaced after each day, and even sugar limps were individually wrapped in plastic, it really doesn't live up to its 'green' claims

Le Lion D'or
This former 18th-century post office is now a charming hotel located in one of Bayeux’s oldest quarters, near the Museum of the Bayeux Tapestry. The hotel boasts an excellent restaurant.

“Several things we loved about Le Lion D'or was the location, the pictures on the wall in the lounge/bar of all the famous people who stayed there, the ease of checking in (I had arranged the booking over the internet from the us), the lovely flower boxes and exterior of the hotel and how it was tucked into the block, off the street. Very quiet. But the most wonderful aspect was the bubbling personality of the young woman at the desk, whose name escapes now. Was it Cecelia? I'm not sure. She had blonde/brown hair and was so helpful and nice and made us feel so welcome and directed me to several shopping spots and gave me directions to every place I wanted to go. She was just so charming and wonderful. Our dates of stay were December 9, checked out on the 10th. Thank you. ” Marian, Savoy |
