One of the major seaports connecting France and England, Saint Malo is Brittany’s most visited town and a tourist destination in its own right.
The Old Town overlooks the English Channel and is completely surrounded by restored walls. You get a great view of them if you arrive on the ferries from England to St Malo (either direct or by the Channel Islands). Once an island, this citadel now shelters behind it the hundreds of sailing boats bobbing in the modern harbor.
Within the Old Town are bars and restaurants serving oysters from nearby Cancale, and many of the St Malo hotels. The most notable sights are the cathedral with its colorful, stained-glass window, and the castle - site of the town's museum.
The beaches are sandy, though the water is somewhat bracing. A causeway leads to Grand Bé, a rocky island housing the tomb of Chateaubriand, its most famous son. To the south is the 14th-century Solidor Tower, a remarkable collection of artifacts from voyages around Cape Horn. Further inland is Labyrinthe du Corsaire, a huge maze that will keep kids busy for hours.
In the Rance River, connecting the sea to Dinan, is the world’s first tidal power station. The road over it leads to Dinard Airport, the closest to Saint-Malo.

Outstanding medieval walled city rich in centuries of history. Inside the walled city is a beautiful labyrinth of cobbled lanes and alleys, filled with cafes, shops, restaurants and hotels. A truely unique experience that visitors should invest time to discover all there is to see. The changing tides and the effect on the local coast is remarkable to see. Best to visit at low tide.

One of our favourite places to visit in France.
One of our favourite places to visit in France. Lovely walk around the ramparts and historical information is readily available. Shopping is a lovely experience and lots of bars. restaurants and bistros to choose from. Ideal for all ages and something for everyone. In Summer take swimming gear to dive into the outdoor pool on the beach.

Great place to stay for a few days. Nice safe beach with a seawater bathing/swimming pool. Top quality restaurants, nice cafes and bars. Good shopping. Tourist Office very helpful. Easy to get the bus/coach to Mont St Michel or to take the water taxi to Dinard for the day. Solidor a walk away for lunch and a stroll.

Lovely place to visit for a long weekend ; great beaches and restaurants. We ate at Le Cale in Solidor ; great seafood but quite pricey and in a great location overlooking the bay. The Creperie also great for snacks, tapas and drinks. Great atmosphere and great views and great value for money.
Intra muros really interesting and great to walk around walls. Enjoyed walking around the peninsula between Solidor and St Malo . A great walk parc Solidor with fab views and a great private beach at low tide.
We were just out of season so weren't able to to use the sea bus across to Dinard as planned.

Beautiful city, lots of history and places to visit.
Beautiful city, lots of history and places to visit.
Food is nice, for Italian on our first night we went to O DIVINO. Food was ok but I think I had better. We wanted pasta but they said we have to wait around 30-40 mins so we skipped and had pizza and salad instead. It was a bit overpriced.
Easy to walk around the city, in Intra Muros you can get the bus to go anywhere, we went to the shopping mall the Madeleine which is supposed to be the biggest.
We also took an organized bus to Le Mont St Michel and spent the day there, it was amazing.
The apartment is in a lovely building in a very good place for access to the beach, the seafront walk and the walled city. There was a good supermarket within walking distance and a lovely boulangerie nearby. The apartment was lovely. Spacious and bright and very well supplied. We wish we had been there for a lot longer and will recommend it to family and friends considering visiting St Malo
Thank you
The hotel is located in the beach of Saint Melo. It is clean and staff is very friendly and helpful. However, we had purchased one of the smaller rooms. It had literally no windows. So small even for 2 people. It was not possible to stand both for me and my wife at the same time. Considering it is quite expensive, the value for money is not good. If I go Saint Melo again, I'd stay in a hotel cheaper.
We loved the location of Hotel Le Croiseur. It was in an awesome area of the old town, walking distance to all the attractions. The hotel staff were super friendly and helpful, breakfast was delicious and well priced (€12), private parking was available at a cost. Rolls were quiet small but bed was very comfortable, quiet and very clean. We loved St Malo and Hotel Le Croiseur.
Good location. Just within the city walls, but also a short walk to the main entrance through the walls, and to the buses going to St. Malo and the Caen train station. Good breakfast. Helpful tips from the hotel host. While we didn't have a direct view of nearby beaches, we could see the inner harbor and also see the ocean to the north. Some nice restaurants were nearby.
Excellent location within a short walk of the public parking outside the town walls. There was a lift. There are many restaurants nearby at all budget levels. The double glazed window were extremely effective at keeping out street noise. There is superb bakery just across from the hotel (not open Mondays) but a buffet continental breakfast is also available in the hotel.
The hotel was located very well to access the old town by foot as well as a short drive to the ferry terminal in the morning. The staff was lovely and our room was very spacious, beautiful large bathroom and very clean overall. The beds were very comfortable and staff was very helpful to recommend restaurants suitable for children.
Everything about this hotel was positive.
The location was excellent. In the heart of the walls. This hotel is family owned, so they went above and beyond. Lobby and room were modern. Breakfast is availible. They have an elevator, which is important in old towns. St malo was a great place to spend a few days!
The hotel is beautiful and ideally located a stone's throw from the a variety of shops and restaurants. The staff could not have been more helpful. We hope to return to Saint-Malo in the next 18 months and will certainly be checking in to the Ajoncs d'Or. We will also be recommending it to anyone we know.
The location is wonderful! Steps away from the beach and a very quick walk to the walled city. The room was perfect for my family, comfortable beds and spacious. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. The breakfast was also really great.
Excellent location because it was close to some stores such as a coffee shop, art shop and some of St.Malo's gastronomy.
However, the hotel is calm and relaxing with its good customer service.
Thanks.
Merci beaucoup.
Our room had a magnificent view of the beach, we loved the sounds of the waves. We loved being so close to the old walled city and spent a day there. The restaurants were good, the ambience was just outstanding.
The lady that met us was lovely, friendly and so helpful could not do enough for us. The breakfast was one of the best we have had in France. The bed was comfy, the shower was very good overall a great hotel.
The staff were very helpful, kind and courteous. The location was great, inside the old town walls but with parking and close to the ferry terminal. The outside terrace was very pleasant with good service.
Room was well Sited in the centre of the walled city. The hotel had a tiny lift which would not fit one person with a suitcase. However, the manager kindly assisted carrying our cases up the stairs
Lovely room, very clean and the staff were all excellent. The hotel is in a very good position for access to both the beach and the "walled city", and there were some good facilities.
The location of this hotel is quite nice. It is a simple, no frills 3 start hotel at a good value. It is right on the Plage Sillon with a pleasant 15-minute walk to the Old Town.
The hotel is conveniently located inside walled city. There are loads of restaurants, shops, cafes nearby. It's close to the sea. The staff are super nice.
