Relais de Margaux - Golf & Spa

Just there for 1 night we really appreciated the calm and relax atmosphere. It's really a restfull place.

The only comment we could make: it would have been nice to have somebody guiding us up to the room, we nearly get lost.

Really quiet (ok, the off season) but the calm is medicinal. Room was very comfortable and although double bed was a 1+1 the matress/bedding was devine! Staff are relaxed (keeping with the theme) and helpful. Spa facilities are super but typically French, ie. Expensive and only open 0900-1800hrs (if you can get a package with spa inc. Its the only way to go!). Location, perfect for exploring the Medoc while Bordeaux still very accessible.

Decor in room was a bit dated (flowery bed throw matching the curtains!) and buffet breakfast nothing exceptional but I can count on one finger how many non 5-star hotels do a good brecky!

Location was good, we were running in the Marathon du Medoc. The food in the brasserie was very good and well priced. We had the cheapest room(200 eurosper night),and the hotel advertised some good spa facilities which set it apart from many chambre d'hotes in the area.

We had the cheapest room (200euros per night) so we were stuck in the old part of the hotel which needs serious attention. It was musty smelling, dated decor, blankets on the bed that felt like your grandma had died in them, , the room key never worked twice in a row so we had to keep walking back to reception to get it recoded.....not at all pleasant. The rest of the hotel was much better. There was a huge new wing which housed all the modern (pictured in the brochures) rooms. The spa was our main niggle though as you had to pay 30 euros per person per day just to go in to use the swimming pool, hamman and sauna. We didnt go in as a result and it was the facilities that had attracted us to the hotel in the first p[lace so we were rather dissappointed.

Relais de Margaux is aging.It should not be rated as a 4* but a 2 to3* hotel. The brasserie restaurant is ok for golfers to have a snack or a drink after a game of golf,it is not acceptable as a proper restaurant. The newer part of the hotel is dull and plain. We came over 12 years ago and found it pretty good at the time but now it seems to need better maintenance and renovation. The staff was pleasant.

the surrounding of the hotel is beautiful. In the middle of wineries. Very quiet.

the service is very poor, especially in the Brasserie. We ordered food, had to wait an hour and in the end the desert didn't even come. The servant simple left, perhaps her shift was over? The breakfast is good and the servants there nice, but not very accurate. We asked for an egg and they simply forgot. We had to ask again. So overall the service can improved!

Great staff - very helpful; Nice brasserie - good food; Air conditioning and pool were excellent.

Bed is too low to the floor; paying for internet is not good; 22 euros for breakfast is terrible - and I didn't do it.

the spa

Situation géographique, au centre d'un parcours de golf.... Calme et sérénité assurés.... Proximité des plus grands châteaux du Médoc, vignobles de renommée mondiale. Le spa est très agréable bien que vieillissant... La brasserie propose des plats bons et chauds, rien à redire.... Le service est correct avec des employés sympathiques, bien que certains se croient encore serveur à l'ancien restau gastro qui a fermé depuis qques années (faudrait se dérider un peu, ce n'est qu'une brasserie!! XD) Petit déjeuner copieux et à volonté.

Il est difficile pour moi d'être objectif car nous avons profité mon épouse et moi même d'une offre promotionnelle, nous permettant d'avoir deux nuits au prix d'une, le spa et petit déjeuner inclus. Dans ces conditions, l'hôtel est d'un bon rapport qualité-prix. Si par contre on paie le prix fort, le tarif est tout à fait prohibitif et injustifié au vu des équipements offerts (tv cathodique par exemple.... On est plus dans les années 80!) La finition des chambres laisse à désirer (joints de carrelage ds la salle de bain pas terminés, papier peint vieillot et qui se décolle par endroit...). Etablissement à privilégier uniquement dans le cadre d'une offre promotionnelle......

L'hôtel nous propose de prendre le diner a la brasserie attenante, mais l'endroit est plutôt froid...dommage, ils ont une si jolie salle a manger au petit déjeuner. La cuisine est bien présente mais n'a aucun goût.

Pas de possibilité d'avoir des soins, trés mauvaise organisation, manque de personnel, restaurant gastro indisponible....
