Location of hotel is excellent, quiet countryside but 5 mins walk from the sea and various small beaches. Lovely walk into Pornic on the coastal path, approx 3 miles. Also coastal path going in the opposite direction. Lots cycle tracks. Hotel has heated outdoor pool and tennis court. Hotel itself is a lovely, authentic auberge with stone walls, wooden beams. Superb lounge and restaurant with real fire in restaurant - lots of character! Our initial room (we liked the hotel so much we stayed an extra 2 nights!!) was a studio mezzanine, kitchenette, toilet, bathroom and living area downstairs and lovely comfortable double bed upstairs. Room had balcony with 2 deckchairs and umbrella. Kitchenette was very well equipped with 2 electric rings, good size fridge, dishwasher, micro/combi oven and lots of crockery and cutlery. Frying pans, pans of all sizes and various utensils provided. Hotel set in large grounds with super kitchen gardens, vineyard, at the rear of hotel various animals are beautifully kept in a huge paddock area. Our first visit to the hotel and we will book to return shortly.

This Hotel is set on the cliffs overlooking the seawith the most beautiful fruit and veg gardens. The room was excellent with tea and coffee making facilities our room had a sea view and a balcony. The food in the restaurant was excellent with produce from the gardens used in most of the menu. The staff were very freindly and helpful. The carpark was quite a way from the hotel entrance, this made it hard work carrying the luggage as we were on a motorcycle we had to make 3 trips. It is also a little pricey.

This hotel is in a superb setting and has very good stafff who are very keen for you to enjoy your stay and nothing is too much trouble. Food was excellent and well presented (particularly the breakfast) although we did suggest they have some vin de maison wines as well as so many expensive ones. Good walks from the hotel and the walled garden is a continuous pleasure to explore.

Apartment with two double bedrooms and some kitchen facilities. Generous breakfast. It rained a lot (not the hotel's fault of course) but the route between the apartment, the main building and the car park was uncovered and a bit muddy. Dinner expensive but not particularly good. Plumbing a bit old - e.g. drooping shower head. Used our own pillows because those in one room smelt strongly of a previous guest's perfume (however they didn't smell dirty). Nowhere obvious to dry damp clothes or towels.

The place is magical, the huge vegetable and herb garden is amazing, and the sea walk into town was a delight. It's a sensual and romantic place. I loved it. Two things stand out. Firstly, it is very difficult to stay there if you do not have a car or a motorcycle. It is five km to town, and the taxi services only run about once an hour (book ahead, pan to spend some time phoning them all to get a time near the one you want), and not at all after around 7pm. Secondly, for a place so far from town, they are under equipped to deal with customer needs. I was surprised to find they had no obvious supplies - no aspirin/ibuprofen, no suncream, no razors, no toothpaste - either for sale or as a courtesy. Once you are there, without a car, if you don't have these things you are stuck.

“We found the hotel staff to be extremely accomodating. We arrived on the day of an excellent fireworks display and although we had not booked for the evening and the restaurant was extremely busy we were given a table overlooking the display, which was quite spectacular. It is fair to say that some work is in progress at the hotel, however it was well managed and did not intrude on enjoyment. We are very much looking forward to our next visit. we are just hoping they are able to offer something for new Years Eve.” Keith, Cannock Staffordshire |
