Our room was modern and well equipped, they've really tried to think of everything you might need with a microwave, a small fridge, some cooking utensils, plates, etc. The hotel itself is the same with vending machines for food, coffee and drinks, lots of tourist information and breakfast (continental only - the lady running breakfast was a little scary - no eggs!) is available for a charge. The staff at reception were very friendly, spoke very good English and couldn't have been more helpful especially when I discovered I had lost my credit card. They let me use their phone to call my Australian bank and cancel it, free of charge. When we had trouble with the wifi, they fixed the problem immediately. We didn't arrive until well after check in because of a delay with our train trip but they sent instructions to get in with directions to our rooms. If you"re in the same predicament, don't forget to put the hash symbol after the code number! The hotel is a little bit out of town but very, very peaceful and it's surrounded by beautiful buildings. There's a 'Paul' (fantastic patisserie, very deceiving, turned out to be like a franchise, they're everywhere, top quality food though) about ten minute brisk walk away and the tram is at the back of the building making it very easy access to the centre of Bordeaux. Residhotel Galarie Tatry is great value for money and I would stay here again.
Not their fault but it was very hard to get a taxi for 5 people to go there. We had to argue with a taxi driver who had an 8 seater to finally get us there which resulted in a tense trip. He kept telling us we needed 2 taxis and he couldn't take more than 4 people (his argument was he needed the other space for luggage - we only had carry on luggage each), none of the taxi drivers would charge less than Eu25 but we managed to talk him into it saving us paying another Eu25 for the extra taxi. Still, it's a lot of money for a 12 minute trip and not a great start to our visit in Bordeaux, it really pays to research your public transport routes. Also, there was a really bad smell in our bathroom, we kept the bathroom door closed and spent minimal time in there.
Kitchen Bed size Cleanliness Tram stop
Nothing within walking distance on the night we were there Restaurant doesnt open enough
Basic hotel but clean & with secure parking which was important to us. Easy to go to City centre with the tram just outside the hotel.
Could have done with extra pillows.
2 single beds extra pillows good kitchen set up
getting ripped of at tram station got helped by local who took money as a tip for helping not on
Appartment hotel, with a small kichen! Free car parking for guest.
a little far away from restaurent, but we have a car...
Friendly staff, clean rooms. Easy to get to via tram service.
Dining room could be larger.
Our studio apartment was in the basement with very poor lighting in the corridors
proximity to tram bed really comfy
room a bit small
The Kitchen: so small that it's impossible for two people to use without the door closed and the fridge and hob are behind the door, there is only one power socket so the coffee machine cannot be uses at the same time as any other appliance. If staying a few nights and intend to self cater this would be a major problem OK for a stop over.
Apartments are located not in the city center, but you can easily reach the center with the tram, the tram stop is in 2 minutes walking distance from the hotel. There is a supermarket in some 10 minutes walking distance from the hotel. The lake with a little beach and area for swimming is in 15 minutes walking distance from the apartments. The room was spacious and a kitchenette is well equipped with everything you need for cooking. The breakfast was good. Do not forget to contact reception in avdance if you plan to arrive after 23:00.
There is no daily cleaning and change of towels, this information was mentioned during the reservation and was not a susprise. The surprise was that you have to clean the apartment before leaving, if this information would be indicated before check out, it will be ok, no problem, just the policy of the apartments, but when you are already doing check-out in the early morning to catch the train, the staff informed that I need to go back to the apartment and do the cleaning. That was a very bad surprise and due to it unfortunately I have the bad impression about the apartments.
Because of the location, a map showing the general location of nearby restaurants grocery stores etc. (and the tram stop) would be useful.
Tram next door, centre of town in 10 minutes. Easy access and parking. Perfect location for city break in fabulous bordeaux. Great staff, good facilities. Highly recommended.
Rear entrance on way to tram very tatty. Big contrast to other public areas
Very quiet and dark in the rooms at night - excellent sleep! Air conditioning in the room. Great location - if you are happy to purchase and use a travel card (12 euros for 7 days unlimited travel) which is very convenient and takes you right into the heart of the city Brilliant massive supermarket 15 mins easy walk
Kitchen facilities are small but fine for preparing a cold meal (or simple cooked meal)
Originally we booked a double but got twin beds. Receptionist very obliging, searched hard and found a much better room for us even though it was a busy period. Place was really quiet and nice to look out on a treed courtyard.
Whole complex is a little bit of a rabbit warren. Original studio room was really, really tiny, so glad we got an upgrade to apartment for no extra. Some of the furnishings are tired and faded.
I booked a double bed and I received 2 single beds. I was told that my preferences on booking.com could not be seen.
Conveince it was on the right side of the city for us. Very handy for the tram. If you were coming in on the train this is the line for you, direct from the station. Walk-in shower. Staff excellent, helpful and considerate. We were able to leave our car while we visited the city a big plus in Bordeaux. Good air con. Very clean.
Beds were for us uncomfortable. Fridge was noisy posiably because it is so close to the bed. As usual in French kitchens no kettle. Could have better signage, we knew where we were going. Very difficult for a first time visitor at the end of a long journey.
very good location, everything was ok
Wifi worked adequately quickly even if it dropped out every few minutes Receptionist on arrival pleasant enough although indifferent to request to move to the room type we had booked. There were just enough cups and one spoon in the kitchen to be able to make a drink and washing up liquid and a tea towel were provided.
Had to pay on arrival for all nights (booked for 7 but refused to pay and stayed for 3 whist searching for another hotel) Paper thin walls No safety chain/lock on room door Disgusting plastic flooring, broken furniture, lighting too poor to read Given disabled room despite paying for one bed suite - bathroom awful, toilet seat too high to sit on, nowhere to balance toiletries, cold dirty floor tiles. Towels very thin, only one toilet roll (for 7 nights!). No air conditioning in bedroom area Badly bitten at night despite window closed and mossie repellent - bed bugs? "Easy" access to tram route meant squeezing past stinking bins through back gate. Local area grim - nowhere to eat/drink Free parking over run and used by guests to smoke/loiter, intimidating to walk through. Can't even say cheap - on long stay rate still 10 sterling per night more expensive than Ibis Bastide even with parking charge. This hotel is a 5 minute walk to tram or a pleasant stroll over the bridge with fantastic views of city.
Staff very friendly and knowledgeable Safe parking (free) onsite - car park locked at night Comfortable apartment with free wifi Apartment had separate loo & bathroom (handy for a family of 4) Easy drive/tram into Bordeaux
Not in a particularly picturesque part of Bordeaux - surrounded by builders' merchants
Unusual location, away from traffic, but not very far from tram stop, so good access to centre of city. Not too far to walk to city or river promenade. Small supermarket 5-10 mins walk away. Plenty of space in appartment and good cooking facilities.
In a relatively poor area which is still being redeveloped, so some pavements in poor condition. Limited range of local shops.
I've visited Bordeaux three times in the past five years, and have stayed at Galérie Tatry every time. Why do I keep coming back? Three main reasons: 1. The location is perfect, being within about 20 metres of a tram stop that takes you directly into town in 5-10 mins (NB: tram stop is Grand Parc, not Cours du Médoc as you might think- I did first time!). With such good access, it doesn't matter that you're slightly out of the centre, and you benefit from a quiet location without cars/ mopeds/ loud people going past every few minutes. 2. The bed is very large (UK super king size), hard and comfortable. I hate squishy hotel beds that actually feel like they've been slept in by a million other people. 3. The shower is hot and powerful. That's enough for me- all my hotel choosing criteria wrapped up. The rooms are also well soundproofed, the staff are helpful and the wifi worked great in our room (nowhere near reception). If I'm lucky enough to come back to Bordeaux again, this is where I'll be staying.
A faint but definite whiff of sewage in the room!
service, breakfast, rooms - reception was very polite
a bit hard to find as it is not beside a road - parking yard too tigth, and people not respecting property of other people - I got my car scratched there.
Tram to town and train station just opposite so easy to use and very cheap. Location was quiet. Supermarket nearby. Lovely cakes and fresh food.
Not a pretty location but no noise so that was good. Mattress too hard for me and pillow too small and soft. Ouch!! Room too small for a long break. Felt a bit hemmed in but for a few nights it was bearable. had breakfast once. Adequate but found fab supermarket not far away so stocked up on some food.
location and parking was excellent.
single beds, would prefer a double only one pillow each
Free-of-charge parking place Free-of-charge wifi Just a few metres from the stop of the tram connecting with the city centre Room large enough, comfortable beds Bathroom large enough Good selection at breakfast
Having chosen the residence-style accommodation (and not the hotel-style one) we were only entitled to free-of-charge clean towels and bed sheet upon arrival, so we had to pay for a new set when it was needed after a few days. Okay, but 7 euros for two towels only (no bed sheet) seem definitely too much to me
