In central Paris, this hotel is just half a mile from Gare du Nord and 165 yards from Bonne Nouvelle Metro Station, which leads to many tourist attractions.
Score from 1095 reviews Very good
I did love the hotel and his character. It transformed us to 1920. We could feel the spirit of Toulouse-Lautrec, Josephine and their friends. We definitely come back one day to try absinthe favourite drink of Van Gogh. And the old-fashioned lift was a great fun.
I was searching for a perfect "old French style" hotel not far from Gare du Nord, but not in 10th district :) Geographical location is good, near Monmartre, half an hour to all main sights - Opera, Notre Dame, Louvre, etc. Subway 100 meters near hotel. Hotel is old, but clean, cozy and very beautiful. Staff was friendly, room was huge which is rare for the Paris centre. Breakfast is not big, but very tasty with awesome croissants and coffee.
Quite high price - 149 EUR per night, but it is normal for Paris, so it is not really a negative point. The hotel is located in "sex" area - a lot of intrusive guys on the street and dirty brothels, noisy at night, I had to close the windows to sleep quietly.
Fantasticly decorated hotel, staying there felt like stepping back into the 1920s. Room was quite large for Paris, staff was very friendly and helpful. Location's very nice, close to Moulin Rouge with a view on the Sacre Coeur
A bit pricy at €150 per night
Tv is soo old, recomend LCD tv
Staff are very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast.
A little bit of noise from the street
Breakfast was nice Reception day and evening person were really helpful Close to Montmartre
Lots of sex shops around nothing wrong with that but it creates a different atmosphere in the streets Shower way too small and I am small person. Room smell like cat wee Pillows smell like body odor Carpets stain all over
Nice area to relax in downstairs. Bed was comfortable. Beautiful view.
A little noisy at night with the windows open. Internet was very slow.
The location is very good, very near to Montmartre. The subway is also very near, less than 5 min walking. The staff were very friendly and helpful; and breakfast was enough. Room was fine; the bathroom is small but enough and very clean. In general, I would recommend it.
The staff were very good, especially the young lady on the fron desk when we booked in,if i had been abit younger i would have proposed marriage!,.
Hotel room was quite basic, size of shower to small,no tea coffee making facilities.
The old quaint style of building, the staff quite helpful.
We found it noisy as it was close to an entertainment sector. Also some sound came through the walls
We have stayed at this hotel several times and we have never been disappointed. The rooms are a good size for Paris, well decorated and clean. The bed is comfy too.The hotel itself is beautiful with many features from the turn of the century. It is situated in Pigalle, a minute from the Moulin Rouge. There are metros close by and Montmartre and Sacre Coeur are a short walk away. There is lots to see and do in the area.
The tv was old, but you do not go to Paris to watch tv!
Although we mentioned to arrive late and needed a baby bed the room did not include it. When we asked the staff he told that it was given to another family. And late at night we had to go somewhere else to stay. Also the location is not suitable for families at night. I would not advice this hotel for families.
Location Breakfast Hosts
The staff at the hotel was very helpful. Communication was easy. I had booked two rooms but the hotel did not have one of them ready for whatever reason but they did give me a third single room for the same price of the two booked rooms. That meant that one of the families was split but the rooms were next door to the other. Glad the hotel staff could work that out.
The pictures posted online of the hotel are from a renovation completed some few years ago. The hotel does not look like that anymore. It could really use some updating or some more current pictures should be taken to reveal the current look of the hotel. The location of the hotel is not so great. It is in the inner city of Paris but it is in the lower class area. Adult and porn shops are right around the corner and they are plentiful. Great if you are into that kind of stuff but not a place for families; particularly with teen agers. The hotel does not have parking. I drove in and had to park in a secure parking garage about two blocks away but had to pay around $40 US dollars per night for the parking. The hotel may say that they have street parking but with the residential area also using the street parking; good luck finding a place to park. Breakfast was good but limited to bread, coffee, juice and cereal. I had a family room on the front of the hotel and could hear just about everything on the street below. Woke up one morning to the screams of a woman fighting with a man on the street corner. More verbal than physical though; minus the poor trailer the girl was taking her frustrations out on. Looked like the only thing hurt was the young lady's pride. Although the hotel staff worked out our room situation well, I think the room rate for the quality of the hotel was a bit out of balance. As a tourist, location to the Moulin Rouge is great. Maybe a 3-5 minute walk. Distance to the Eiffel Tower is a 30 Euro/$40 US cab ride. Same thing to Notre Dame and 10 Euro better to The Louvre. My recommendation is to keep looking for a better place. I did this spontaneously but I'm sure I could have had a better experience if I looked around a bit more. I would not have chosen this hotel if the posted photos would have been more current.
Close to Montmartre and metro
Double room was a single with a double bed. Bathroom very cramped.
Overall, just fine. Walking distance to everything we wanted/needed.
Although the room was vast and lovely, street noise was a nuisance. Previously, we never noticed this as we were always placed court-side, but the room there were smaller...
The hotel is located close to the subway which means that one can easily get to the centre in less than 15 min. Breakfast was very tasty. Room was comfortable and clean. The neighbourhood may not be liked by everyone but one knows what to expect if one choses to stay 200m form Moulin Rogue. My stay was amazing. Totally recommend! :)
Lack of air-conditioning in rooms.
The location was good - close to Moulin Rouge.
Wifi kept dropping out.
Loved the old style lift and decor. The rooms were small but lovely. Breakfast was great value. Staff were really lovely too. Would stay again. Would recommend to friends.
Wanted to stay longer did not like leaving.
The wonderful original art deco lift, and general décor of the hotel. Also the staff were very friendly and helpful.
big room nice art deco atmosphere very nice bartender!
breakfeast view from room easy access to paris and train stations staff friendly
too smaller tv needs to update to bigger unit no fridge in room to cool drinks
The location of the hotel is excellent, around the corner from a metro station and many restaurants. It is also a block away from Moulin Rouge. Our room was clean and had amazing views, the bed was very comfortable and the included breakfast was great. The lobby area and breakfast area are nicely decorated. We also enjoyed the character of the spiral staircase with the elevator in the center. The hotel's staff was extremely helpful and accommodating, we had to leave very early in morning due to our 8 AM flight and were served a full breakfast way before breakfast time. It I will stay here again in my next visit to Paris.
The shower head wouldn't detach nor stay put in one place but it was not a major hindrance.
The breakfast was wonderful and the rooms large! The staff was wonderful and very helpful!
The lift only held 2-3 people and there was just one. But that was ok. There is NO air conditioning and it was hot. The hotel is in the middle of a porn/sex area. People are nice/safe but the stores are awful. Especially passing them with children on the way to the metro etc. Magazine with pictures displayed, sex toys etc. All a stone's throw away.
It was a comfortable hotel, the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was a good size. I liked the old style decor, it gave the hotel character. A 12 noon checkout was great as I didn't have to rush to leave. The hotel was well located near the metro. I would come back here.
You could hear people coming and going from their rooms and there was a lot street noise. This didn't bother me too much, because I was so tired at the end of each day it didn't take long to fall asleep.
