Grand Hotel Cordouan  

Excellent location overlooking the sea. Restaurant food was very good, if a little pricy for a regional centre out of season.

Note - the European star rating for hotels is changing, and this property has 'jumped the gun'. It's four stars equates to the 'old' 3 stars. This becomes a universal 'star upgrade' in Europe mid this year.

We booked this hotel because of its spa facilities however these are rented out to private individuals and hotel guests are only allowed in for 1.5 hours per day, then you have to buy shoes and swimming hat from the hotel, all extra. The pool is only accessible by walking through the restaurant full of dinners which is crazy. We booked a superior room but at best it was travel lodge quality for 200 Euros per night I did not expect paper cups in the room. The hotel is on the edge of nowhere so prepare to walk or drive everywhere and for a hotel with maybe 150 rooms it has 23 car park spaces free the rest are 15 Euros a day in the hotel car park. All in all we found much better hotels nearby, so look again.

We felt that the cost of breakfast was excessive

Excellent ocean view over a small bay and with balcony - sadly weather was bad (in July!), Left balcony door ajar and listened to the crashing waves (and the rain!). Comfortable bed. Outdoor pool looked fine - but due to weather was closed for the 5 days we stayed. Use of Thalasso Tea/coffee facilities in rooms. Restaurant (formule) meals fairly good value.

Approx 200euros per night - breakfast was an additional extra at 16.5Euro per person! We went (drove - 5mins max) to local cafes for breakfast - much better value. WiFi did not work for first 4 days of our stay - staff everyday said it would be fixed this afternoon, tomorrow, etc...., Thalasso - set times for hotel guests - therefore busy (due to weather?)

A nice gentle 25 minute walk into the lively centre of Royan. Ideally situated for anyone who is looking for some peace and quiet. By and large the staff were very polite and obliging

The hotel is situated in a quiet part of the resort so if you have mobility problems you may wish to reconsider this as a suitable location from wich to to to the main part of Royan.

Nice area for walking either to the town or along the coast road. Romantic setting with good sea views but the side overlooking carpark and beach is better. Good breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Room could have been cleaner cobweb on desk lamp and hairs in bath. Some of the sealant on the shower screeen was black and could do with being replaced. Nice to havt tea/coffee facilities in the room but could have done more milk. No restaurant menu in the room and no information about the outdoor pool

Personnel très attentif et aimable.

La cotation de l'Hotel est surfaite. S'apparente plus à un 4*. Donc le rapport qualité/prix n'est pas favorable.

La proximité de la mer et très belle vue grâce au balcon donnant sur la mer, côté piscine.

Pour accéder à la piscine de l'hôtel, obligation de passer par la salle de restaurant. Ayant réservé pour trois personnes dans une chambre, le personnel aurait dû prévoir un oreiller et serviettes complémentaires pour la troisième personne. Le nombre de bouteilles que l'hôtel offre à notre arrivée est la même que pour ceux qui réserve une chambre pour deux personnes. Sur le balcon, idem que deux transats alors que nous étions trois. L'accès à la piscine du spa est très réduit au niveau des horaires et à aucun moment, il était précisé que les bonnets de bains et tongs étaient obligatoires, donc obligés de les acheter sur place.

Etablissement calme, en bord de mer... superbe vue

Pour un hotel 4*, pas de peignoires de bain dans les chambres, pas de mini bar... Dommage, puisque cet hotel est en bord de mer, il n'y a pas de plage privée avec transats, parasols etc...
