I ordered the simplest main course on the menu at the hotel's
restaurant - beef stir fry. This cost the guts of 20e so I was expecting
a rather decent stir fry. Out came strips of beef with a few red peppers
in soy sauce over packet noodles - something my younger sister would
have done a better job on. I picked away at it anyway, but to my horror
I picked up (what I thought was a red tomato), a red raw piece of beef.
This would have been fine if it was among other raw pieces...I Would
have understood that the steak had been cooked rare or something. It is
highly dangerous to mingle raw meat among cooked meat, so I handed it
back. Without even asking would I like something new, the waiter took it
back, stuck it back on the pan and came out with the same dish re-
cooked. I was disgusted and complained upon paying for my bill to the
manager of the restaurant, who didn't even apologise and charged me
full price. I am a young woman and was travelling solo for a conference.
I believe I was treated in this manner because I was on my own. I made a
complaint at reception, where I was told a hotel manager would contact
me regarding the issue - never happened. To make matters worse, on my
departure while waiting at a train station, I got a call from staff in a
panic - "Madam, madam, you forgot to pay your city tax!!"...I
Was informed this was 1euro 10cent per day. I replied: "You're
calling me in this state over 5euro?" To which the staff member
replied: "5euro 50, madam". Will never stay here again.
Completely in the middle of nowhere, I spent a fortune on taxis and was
treated appallingly by the restaurant staff.
The receptionists were lovely people - very friendly and welcoming;
albeit very misinformed on local transport options (unless they are
endorsed by taxi companies).
