Friendly staff and great on-site pub atmosphere
Only a 5-10 min walk from cadoxton train station then 15 mins to Cardiff Central.
As soon as we pulled up in the car I thought oh no, why did I book this! We parked up walked in and waited at a reception point next to the bar, no bell to notify anyone you were there, one of the people in the bar area had to tell the girl we were waiting. Our room was on your second floor at the top of the building, we literally went in dropped our bags and then we're heading out. My husband needed the toilet before we left, after he used it and flushed it there was a,horrific noise and the smell that followed was absolutely disgusting (this was not made by my husband). We left for Cardiff and returned back after 11pm, the bar was still open we went straight up to bed, however, we're disturbed at closing time by people having an disagreement. We did not have breakfast as it was hard enough to stay in the bed let alone the thought of eating there. As we left in the morning there were 2 women at the desk neither of them graced us with a response to our good bye...manners do not cost anything.
Close to cardiff.
No hot water. No staff around. Above a pub expect fighting after closed hours. 1 toaster. Had to wait 15 minutes before I could get the breakfast.
We were in the annexe at the rear of the pub, a lovely room with ensuite shower room, there were two chairs and a desk and tea and coffee making facilities. we were able to use wifi so we were quite satisfied. Good value for money.
Some fittings in the bathroom were loose and paintwork was not great but those are only minor complaints.
Good room, comfortable bed and a decent continental breakfast provided. Friendly staff as well.
Glass front door and thin walls. The location as quite loud at night as it seemed there was a club situated next door. Noise doesnt disturb my sleep too badly but others may want to know.
The staff were really nice and good price which included breakfast
I didn't like the location
The bed was nice for 1 night but we only stayed because we got there around 7 pm so it would of been hard to find another place.
Well it all started when we arrived. There was no one on reception so we looked in the bar area (they have their onsite pub) and a girl came to check us in (it took a while...). The hotel was kind of old and it didn't look like it had a refurbishment in a long time. Then we went up to the room, it was very cold so I thought I close the windows (there was 2 in the room). I managed to do one, the other one didn't have a pull-lock (just a wallpaper tape - which didn't help). Then I thought I will just pull the curtains and then put the heating on. I turned the heating on but 10 minutes later there was still nothing coming through. I went down to reception to tell them to put the heating on for us or fix the window or something. The girl said that her colleague would be in in half an hour (8pm) so she would be able to check it for us. I said okay. We waited and waited and at 8:20 pm I went downstairs again to ask them if they could come and check it because we like to go to sleep soon. I said to her that we will have a pint until so we will be in the bar (I thought they could check it in the meantime). I didn't see anyone leave from the bar and then 20 minutes later went back up and nothing changed. So I went back down again to ask what is going on?! The lady then said they checked it and "the heating didn't come on the other day either and yeah the window is broken..." Then she said we could change room but she only just gave the room to someone else... (I like to point out if they knew about the problem we could of checked in to a different room straight away or change the room before the other people made their booking.) So she said she will find a heater for us because there was one somewhere... She found it eventually which was okay but didn't really heat the room up...
Staff were freindly and welcoming on check in. Room was a good size and no noise from anyone.
Limited breakfast - and by limited I mean a banana and cereal. Not exactly a continental breakfast which was stated. Mattress was very very worn. The pub it is above wasnt exactly too great either, which a dodgy tasting beer.
Friendly and helpful staff
Shabby and in need of investment poor location
Big room with usual facilities Free parking Friendly welcome from staff
Noisy area which looked rather rundown Very basic breakfast - would have liked the option of brown bread and a larger choice of cereals
My only complaint with this place is the shower was no more than a trickle lol other than that staff are really friendly and for the money it does the job. I would stay again for sure
The shower and a dodgy smell in bathroom, no it wasn't me lol
the shower was good.
The booking made was not registered on the hotel system. The room was shabby with no light shades on bedside lamps-bare bulbs. Electrical sockets in the bathroom were unsafe. The bottle bins being emptied from the bar the following morning at 6am and when complained told there was nothing that could be done about it. Breakfast was poor- a loaf of value bread with a toaster. tea & coffee facilities in the room were teabags and coffee sachets on the worktop with mugs and a kettle. Noisy area outside with park next door full of youths until 4am! Lucky there wasn't a fire as fire escape route on back of door was a proforma sticker and not filled in!
the welcoming when we entered the hotel.nothing was too much trouble for the staff.also breakfast room cheery and nicely set out.
the only set back was the street outside .lots of teenagers a little off putting. but certainedly not a reflection of the hotel.
Our room was situated in a block at the back of hotel so that evening we were not disturbed by the band playing and people leaving. The lady serving us in bar once we were settled in gave us excellent information on places to visit. Then the fantastic news that parts of Gavin and Stacey were filmed where we were drinking. The room was spacious and comfortable considering the low cost.
We only had 1 complaint. No mirror in the bedroom.
The staff were really friendly and polite and helpful. The facilities were basic but cleanish, the breakfast was good and plentiful, plenty of hot water and tv you could watch which is always a bonus
The location was poor, was in the not so desirable part of town and being near a pub wasn't great as we had the drunk women having a massive barney outside our room at 12 at night the 2nd night we were there so sleep was not easy to come by. The pillows were like crisp packets, they rustled badly!!, we felt a little unsafe there and weren't sure if the car would be there in the morning !
Although it doesn't look that impressive from the outside this is a great place to stay. The rooms are nice and the beds comfortable and everything in the room is immaculately clean. They do serve a full breakfast from 0700 to 0900 and have their own on site pub that is everything you expect of a traditional pub. The drinks are reasonably priced and the atmosphere is quite jovial. There's even a inflated jump house out back for the children plus picnic tables if you want to drink, smoke, or just enjoy the fresh air. The television is a bit small but you do get SKY television channels so that's a plus but the most impressive thing is the staff. They are always polite, courteous, and cheerful and always checking to make sure you have everything you need.
Friendly staff, comfortable
A very spartan breakfast if you could call it that. Driving up to the Tadross, very grubby surrounds and litter in front of the outside rear annexe.
Not a lot
Just felt very uncfortable in the surroundings
Got a family room for the price of a double.
Unappealing from the outside. Shabby and unclean on the inside. Bed was clean but uncomfortable. Very basic self service breakfast. In a nutshell these are rooms above a pub in a not very desirable area. Glad we only stayed 1 night. Would not return.
Nice interior; location; nice staff; quiet room.
Extremely poor breakfast, worst we've ever seen and we travel a lot. Only white bread, jam and cereals. And tea/coffee.
Good room layout, beds ok.clean and good value for money
Noise at night from pub, till nearly midnight. Breakfast disappointing, not really a continental breakfast. Just cereal and toast.
The hotel is a bit of a rough diamond, fair facilities for the price, taxi cheap enough into Barry, hotel situated on the edge of the shopping area. Didnt have breakfast but there's cafes nearby. Can't complain really for the price. Clean and tidy rooms, towels etc provided.
Nothing major to complain, hotel looks a bit tired, breakfast is self serve cereal & toast but expected that for the money!
Cost. Old style building. Great value, basic accommodation which was adequate for our purpose. Overall a good stay despite the negatives. Would stay again.
Dirty tables at breakfast time, not even wiped off stains from cups. Staff vary from being friendly to saying nothing. Perhaps some training required in Customer Service?
Nothing. I would not recommend this "hotel" to any one
Paying on arriving, no where to put clothes no wardrobes, no where to sit in the room only on the bed, could not drink the tea as it was disgusting. Breakfast was just packets of cereal no english breakfast of bacon & eggs
Close to town centre, friendly staff
Place looks a little tired & unloved
