With a superb central location, a 2 minute walk from Reading Train Station and the pubs on Friar Street, the hotel offers clean, comfortable rooms with air cooling.

This historic building was once visited by Charles Dickens for his public readings. It offers a Dickens-themed restaurant, light, modern rooms with private bathrooms, and a themed bar.
Score from 417 reviews Good
the room smelt of feet and sweat as i walked in and was strong enough to stay with me during the whole night! the shower had very little pressure and was freezing cold. the room in general was dirty and left you feeling uneasy.
Cardboard walls very loud throughout the night
Nothing too like .. It is the hotel from hell
£13 for sea bass that was actually a packet fillet from Iceland and was microwaved along with thecfrozen veg and stale mashed potatoes. Manager informed me this was the standard for the area and offered me a refund... I refused as he clearly missed the point. Barman too busy playing on Internet behind reception. Rooms are a disgrace and AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
Very clean and tidy room as was the hotel. Pleasantly surprised by standard of accommodation against the price charged.
Bedroom interior and beds had seen better days. No biscuits with the tea/coffee facilities. Very much geared up to cater for the business user and more of a motel than hotel.
Room was clean and quiet.
Food very good
Generally well appointed and clean.
1. The hard wired kettle base was in place but no kettle. Spare kettle required crawling on floor to plug in behind a wardrobe. Trouser press provided but did not work. 2. No hot water from bathroom sink hot tap. 3. Bathroom very narrow like a long cupboard.
Not bad value
A4 on one side, Paddington main line the other, both slightly audible. Bottom slats on bed missing and quite thin mattress
The location near to city and countryside. Good evening meal and breakfast.
Location clean and comfortable room
Food poor & cold. Asked for it to be re heated. ... done grudgingly by offhand staff. Room very noisy.
Location. Easy to get to and lots of parking
Attitude of the staff and extremely hard lumpy beds the room was cold and the bedding was not at all warm. The extra blankets were really scratchy.
Location...silly to expect a hotel tagged as Reading to be in Reading. Shower poor and bathroom floor tiles loose and broken.
Arrived at 9.05pm told resturant shut at 9pm. was offered take way Indian and Chinese menus. The bar had 2 types of white wine and 1 of red. Very noisy . there was an alarm clock sounding for 50 minutes in room upstairs at 5am.Mentioned this when checking out , was told by receptionist he probably knew who this was. Small room.
HELPFUL ADVICE RE TAXI SERVICES IN THE AREA
Easy location, friendly staff, simple place to stay and a great price for me. The bar seemed to be being repaired, but I didn't need to use it. Room was clean and tidy, though some of the tiles in the bathroom needed sticking to the floor as they had come loose. For the price I can't complain, it was quiet and clean and just what I needed.
Nothing really, just some general maintenance, which in honesty seemed to be going on at the time.
A good basic hotel that is clean with very helpful and friendly staff.
Paid for extra bed but given small double without space for extra bed. We were given an extra single room upstairs so my husband had to sleep there. The bathroom was dated and not overly clean and the shower door leaked so flooded the bathroom Bed was small and uncomfortable
Room was dark, small and smelt of damp. Bed was of very poor comfort sinking in so much you feel as though practically on the floor. Quilt cover was dirty a real real put off. Certainly won't be stopping there again no matter how last minute it is.
No wifi connentions in the room.
Room small and smelled of dust
Clean and comfortable. We needed extra rooms for additional nights and staff very helpful with this.
it is close to the railway line
Very expensive, breakfast not included and staff seemed distant!
The wifi works only in the lobby.
When I stayed there was a "Travellers" wedding in progress and if I had known I would have stayed elsewhere ( but I had paid in advance) There were menacing undertones and my 13yr old daughter was afraid, which meant that we had to stay in our room from check in until leaving the next day. I would have voiced my opinion on check out but the foyer was full of Police investigating a disturbance which had happened with above mentioned party!!! I really couldn't formulate an opinion of the hotel other than to say while it wasn't the worst hotel I've stayed in, it was the worst hotel experience I've ever had....
