Score from 155 reviews Very good
Good location; historical town; friendly staff; well cooked breakfast; reasonable value for money.
Rather musty smell pervades entire building; tired décor; bathroom needs updating; no on-site parking although nearby public parking was fine.
After a day in Brighton we wanted somewhere a little more cost friendly and close to our next itinerary location - Battle Abbey. WE were really pleased to see it just across the road from the Hotel. The evening meal was fabulous, there was an extensive menu of local produce and everything we ordered tasted great. The breakfast included with the room price offered a good range of choices. Shelley the barmaid and the other lady helping out in the evening greeted us like family and made us feel very welcome.
The double room we stayed in had unsatisfactory ventilation and was quite noisy when other guests went up and down the stairs.
Opposite an historic site. The food excellent and staff very friendly and helpful.
Parking either in the street which means moving before 8am or in local overnight car park behind high street area. Very busy High Street and our room at front of hotel so traffic noise until 11pm starting again around 5.30am. Rooms no ventilation so windows needed to be opened so very noisy and little sleep
Centrally located right on the high street. Super warm duvet for the cold room. Breakfast was excellent.
Room was cold. Need redecoration throughout the room and, especially, bathroom. Bigger wattage for the lightbulbs to read.
Nice B&B. Food is good. Close to everything in the village.
No car park. Rooms a bit small.
Ideally located just across the road from Battle Abbey. Good breakfast, friendly informal staff. Inexpensive.
Room 4 (Four Poster room) was disappointingly in need of some significant sprucing up. Though no road noise, not so from other residents' toilet visits! New bath but peeling wallpaper and a 1970s style rubber hose shower attachment, no shower curtain.
- The location - All but one member of staff - Quality breakfast ingredients
- Lumpy mattress - Black mould spores on bathroom walls, ceiling and in the shower - Dust on hangers - Incredibly rude woman cooking the breakfasts - shouldn't be allowed anywhere near guests
All the Staff at this hotel are excellent, from the bar staff to the cleaning staff. Everyone is helpful and friendly. The rooms are a good size and have been updated. The hotel is located opposite Battle Abby and in the high street.
Breakfast was lovely Fantastic view of Abbey Friendly welcome and bar was cosy
Staff were a bit disorganised but very friendly Expensive for the quality of the room
We stayed in room4 (the 4 poster bed room) and it was nice and quiet. Breakfast was excellent
no shower, just bath
Personal support and welcome arriving in the dark at 9pm tired and hungry during my 500km walk.
Being near abbey and facilities could do with furniture being varnished or painted but over all would stay again good breakfast and choice
great food great welcome
Lovely room, 4 poster bed, very quiet(room 4), enormous breakfast, great nearby location to stay at if you are attending a function at the powder mills and at a fraction of the cost
No car park but roadside parking available
Comfotable bed, good breakfast.
Room very tired, in need of redecoration and upgrade, as was the bathroom.
Friendly staff, good food, ideally situated, comfortable room.
Nothing in particular. It suited our needs very well.
Fairly decent value for money with breakfast included.
The fire alarm which went off at 6 a.m. for 10 seconds - clearly from kitchen preparing breakfast. The lack of shower in our room and less than proper customer service at breakfast and on check in.
Staff very knowledgeable re the area even with regards to transport. An excellent high quality breakfast with , local butchers sausages and bacon bought by Prince Charles and fresh uncut bread from the local bakery.
The rooms desperately need refurb. And falsly saying they have just been done should not be allowed in the blurb. Yes they havenew curtains and bold statement wallpaper but that is all. Bathrooms havent been overhauled for at least 20 years and there was even blood on the radiator in room 6. £70 anight isnt justified in my opinion. Shep neame need to look at how they are seen by people from all over the world and must up their game. An independent pub just up the road has excellent rooms. Shep must have more money than them!
Poor selection of beer and very expensive.
A good night's sleep & an excellent breakfast
The location opposite the abbey
The staff were delightful, very welcoming and helpful. It was a perfect base for my short break
The clock radio didn't work - but that didn't detract from my enjoyment
The staff were very friendly a helpful. Breakfast was really good. The room was nice.
The only problem that i found was that the pillows in the room were a bit hard.
Friendly Staff Location Tea and Coffee making in room Excellent breakfast Quiet and Comfortable room
