The location on the High Street couldn't have been more convenient, as it was just a stone's throw from the entrance to the battlefield.
The lighting in the room was inadequate. In fact, the bulb in the bedside lamp was burned out. Also, the shower was so tiny I could barely turn around.
The hotel is on a main road & I thought it would be noisy but good double glazing kept noise to a minimum. The breakfast was very good considering that the lady had to do everything as the other colleague hadn't arrived for work. Clean, comfortable room.
No car park & on street parking very limited so we had to park in the main town car park & carry cases to the hotel.
Just in front of the abbey. Nice breakfast.
Comfortable, reasonably appointed double room. Friendly staff. Good value for money.
Wrong information about street parking - manager said that street parking within bays is OK overnight up until 08:00. I parked within bay, but in morning at 07:30 found I'd been booked for obstruction. Noise from staircase
Staff were friendly and helpful. Location was perfect for us. Breakfast was generous
Mould in shower, towels a bit tired and thin (even holed) and non replacement of tea/coffee/shampoo etc
Beds were comfy and breakfast was nice
Bathroom was so dirty we choose not to use it.
Staff, Location, Breakfast
Overall it was decent value for the Battle bonfire weekend with the highlight being breakfast. Shower cubicle was very mouldy.
Great Location, Lovely Staff, Fabulous Breakfast and a relaxing and laid back stay.
lovely staff, breakfast good
very noisy floor boards and road outside could have been cleaner in the shower room
Nothing about this place at all ..very shabby !!
Dirty basket with tea bags coffee and biscuit in ... shabby old furniture dirty carpets. Green beetle in the bathroom that dropped on me. No hot water in the morning of our departure. Also the water for my morning cup of tea tasted fowl had to leave it. This hotel is a small pub, to charge the same as a premier inn is a disgrace ... wouldn't recommend this one to anybody !
(1) Excellent breakfast served piping hot (2) Nice clean fresh bed linen (3) Ideal location
Very noisy hotel - squeaky floorboards, TV sounds from other rooms, people moving about above sounding like a herd of elephants. The hotel gives the impression of being "tired" and could do with a facelift
The staff were very helpful and friendly, the room was spotlessly clean and fresh, very comfortable night's sleep and a great breakfast. Would definitely book again if/when returning to that part of the country.
Staff were very friendly and accomadating. Breakfast very good and meal in evening. Good selection of meals. Excellent location. We were in bedroom five which was at the back so very quiet we have stayed here many times and would return again. .
Few cobwebs in bedroom which could easily have been sorted. Pillow protectors could do with replacing. A small door handle on each room would help to be able to close doors quietly.
The room was comfortable, the staff were most helpful and were so knowledgeable about the area. They all showed an interest and even got us a taxi when we couldn't. The breakfast was no less than fantastic! !!! I will definitely stay again if in the area.
Only fault was I booked for one night, wish I had made the trip longer.
Location in centre of Battle opposite the Abbey, the beer & the food
Lack of a shower, hit & miss service, needs a good deep clean throughout. More enthusiasm from bar staff to keep the tables clean.
The staff were very friendly. Room was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent.
Good location; historical town; friendly staff; well cooked breakfast; reasonable value for money.
Rather musty smell pervades entire building; tired décor; bathroom needs updating; no on-site parking although nearby public parking was fine.
After a day in Brighton we wanted somewhere a little more cost friendly and close to our next itinerary location - Battle Abbey. WE were really pleased to see it just across the road from the Hotel. The evening meal was fabulous, there was an extensive menu of local produce and everything we ordered tasted great. The breakfast included with the room price offered a good range of choices. Shelley the barmaid and the other lady helping out in the evening greeted us like family and made us feel very welcome.
The double room we stayed in had unsatisfactory ventilation and was quite noisy when other guests went up and down the stairs.
Opposite an historic site. The food excellent and staff very friendly and helpful.
Parking either in the street which means moving before 8am or in local overnight car park behind high street area. Very busy High Street and our room at front of hotel so traffic noise until 11pm starting again around 5.30am. Rooms no ventilation so windows needed to be opened so very noisy and little sleep
Centrally located right on the high street. Super warm duvet for the cold room. Breakfast was excellent.
Room was cold. Need redecoration throughout the room and, especially, bathroom. Bigger wattage for the lightbulbs to read.
Nice B&B. Food is good. Close to everything in the village.
No car park. Rooms a bit small.
Ideally located just across the road from Battle Abbey. Good breakfast, friendly informal staff. Inexpensive.
Room 4 (Four Poster room) was disappointingly in need of some significant sprucing up. Though no road noise, not so from other residents' toilet visits! New bath but peeling wallpaper and a 1970s style rubber hose shower attachment, no shower curtain.
Location, location, location
The Abbey Hoel is basically eight shabby but clean (if room 4 is anything to go by) rooms above a pub. I didn't pay that much so can't be too critical and the breakfast was very good. The bed was comfy but the room itself has no sound insulation and you can hear absolutely everything. There was live music in the pub until 11:20 on the night I stayed and apart from it being a little muffled I may as well have been in the pub itself so loud was the music permeating the walls! I'm just glad there was no one having energetic sex in any of the other bedrooms. Nevertheless it's in an excellent location in wonderful Battle and if you're on a budget, it may well be the place for you. Ear muffs advised!
