The Abbey Hotel84, High Street, TN33 0AQ Battle (Show map) Good, Score from 47 reviews“Breakfast was fantastic & staff very warm to guest”
Purse,
Swindon
This hotel is in the heart of the small market town of Battle, across from the historic site of the 1066 Battle of Hastings. The countryside surrounding Battle is stunning and yields wonderful walks, places to fish and great golf courses. The coastal town of Hastings is only a short drive away, which has the largest beach launched fishing fleet in England and holds a lovely old world charm. Hotel Rooms: 7

Did not find anything that we liked at all. The hotel was badly run, shabby unorganised and of general poor quality.

It was really, really friendly and welcoming. We were able to move to a bigger room at the last minute and the bed in the new room was really comfortable. The locals we met in the evening were very welcoming and entertaining and the addition of too lovely dogs and a cosy fire place topped off the experience. The first room we went in before we changed was quite compact with a fair bit of traffic noise (although it was still the daytime and this is probably less of an issue in the evening). The new room we moved to, although lovely in terms of decor and size, was really cold all evening despite having the radiator on full. The only other downside was the shower facilities didn't work correctly, although the bath was fine.

We read a few reviews of this place that were not great, but those guest must have been real fusspots as we thought this was a great little place. Nice room, good view at front of the hotel, especially as it snowed during our stay, great breakfast, friendly staff. Would stay again. Tiny thing. When bathroom light turned off,, fan stays on for ages.

Convenient location for my weekend with friends. Comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Needs a decoration revamp. Room, corridor, lobby area downstairs and upstairs. Needs a proper shower in the bathroom or a proper shower to the bath. Unpleasant smell in the corridor.

The quirkiness of the setting, its history and location, and the ease to shop in Battle town. The tiredness of the hotel, albeit the centre of one of the most famous battle grounds in history, a tweek would be good.

Location was excellent for Battle bonfire event and the Abbey. Breakfast was good, although there was only one person serving, so a bit slow. Not a problem if you are not in a hurry. We asked for two rooms together but they were in different halls which meant that we had to sleep one adult with one child rather than the two children together. There was no car park but we knew this before we booked. This is a pub with rooms, not a hotel. The pub was very busy and there was no lounge/bar area just for guests. This meant that at the end of the evening we had to retire to our rooms. I suspect this would not be such a problem at other times of year.

Opposit Battle Abbey so very good position and well in the centre of the town The room we had room 5 needs to be refurbished as very old .needs to put double glazing on window and the bathroom needs to be recarpeted .on the first morning we managed to get full english breakfast served but on the second morning we asked for beans on toast and scrambled eggs on toast but after 45 minutes of waiting no brekafast arrived .we then said not to bother as we had waited long enough so not very impressed with that service and price expenisve for what the hotel was like

Central location. Decent cooked breakfast. Friendly breakfast cook. Dull decor, black mould in shower room, given twin room instead of double, felt overpriced.

It was in a convenient location for the wedding we were attending and is in the centre of a very nice little market town, surrounded by beautiful countryside. There was no shower in our room.

Staff very accommodating and friendly Bathroom and ceilings need a bit of TLC. Hadn't realised the bedroom would be by the main road which could get quite noisy at night.

The beds were very comfortable. Very noisy if you are in a room at the front. Bathroom ventilation not working so signs of damp around the shower.

Location, friendliness of the staff, cleanliness, price, breakfast, room facilities Cramped room, bath but not shower, can't stand up in much of bathroom, no window with any kind of view, the hotel has changed its name (now "the Abbey Inn") which wasted half an hour driving up and down the high street looking for it, no parking

Staff were friendly, bar food good value for money and location was convenient for local sights and for an overnight stay while doing the 1066 walk. Very tired decor - stains on carpet and dirty windows. Room rather small and stuffy. No extractor fan in bathroom so very hot. Overpriced for standard of accommodation. Would not like to stay for more than one night.

We liked the location, the view of the Abbey, it was quiet and peaceful and the room was pleasant with all facilities we needed. The breakfast was delicious, served quickly, with as much tea and coffee as we wanted. Staff were polite and friendly. We also liked the dogs!

Excellent home made food, very friendly and helpful staff. The room was fairly small but still well furnished and comfortable. There was some traffic noise, even though the window is double glazed.
