Abbey Court Guest House  

A bit of a walk from town center, about 15mins or so, but a pleasant and scenic one if it is not raining! Shrewsbury is a lovely town with lots of nice little shops and restaurants. Guesthouse was really nice, decent sized room which was clean and comfortable. Nice big tv. We had booked for two night stay but unfortunately we had to cut our stay short and go home after a day. Although unsure of their cancellation policy to begin with, the staff member on reception agreed that we would only have to pay for one night (we gave 24hr cancellation notice for the 2nd night).

Breakfast times a little early, we got to the dining room at 8:45am to find that there were no free tables so we had to go to town for breakfast which we had to pay an extra £12 for. A little annoyed but we should have gotten up earlier. breakfast only served from 7:30 - 9am - a bit too early especially on a weekend. Although the bed was comfortable the headboard kept banging against the wall, each little movement and the bed was squeaking and headboard banging. The same was to be heard from the bed in the room above us which was annoying.

All the facities in the room were of a decent standard. There is good parking behind the guest house.

It was quite late when I arrived and trying to find somewhere within walking distance to get a light supper was difficult.

For a small, modestly-priced room it was extremely comfortable and pleasant, and - a rare thing this - the bed was not rock-hard! Breakfast was pleasant, and the service fast and efficient. Parking was fairly convenient.

It was unfortunate that my request for as few stairs as possible hadn't been noted - it may be that it couldn't be met, but it was disappointing to find that it had not been read or recognised. Could I say this without being offensive, please? I am temporarily disabled, and walk with a stick. It is terribly wearing when someone says "Are you all right?" every two minutes! I know it is kindly meant, but it is not actually helpful, and perhaps it could be used with a little discretion.

The basics done very well. No flim flam and pointless 'extras', just clean and comfy. Perfect.

It was comfortable, clean, had a bath and parking and easy walking distance into the town centre. Shrewsbury is a lovely and very walkable historic city.

the bed had a spring in the middle of the bed which had just been poorly coverered up with a pillow under the bed sheets

Friendly Comfortable Good food

It was clean, friendly and comfortable. The breakfast bacon was delicious. Complementary tea/coffee in the room was topped-up each day. The towels were nice and fluffy.

the shower was only just more than a trickle, and you had to stand on the plug-hole to have the water over you, even if the shower-head was placed at different angles. The breakfast sausage was of poor quality. The pillows were too hard(personal preference)

Good place for those interested in history - or, of course, for Ellis Peters' fans. Abbey was quite close, city a short bus ride. Parking was on site and enough for all - not like some places. Shrewsbury itself is such a delightful place.

My companion and I were competing in a local sporting event which required our presence as early as possible on the Sunday morning. On checking in we asked if it would be possible to have breakfast earlier than their advertised time of 8 AM. The young boy who received us said he would ask but we received no feedback. On the Sunday morning I rang the reception bell several times between 7-30 and 8 AM in order to settle our account and prevent delay in checking out. No one attended and subsequently we settled the bill in cash while eating breakfast to prevent delay.

Very warm welcome. Attentive and all facilities clean, neat and tidy. Only ten- fifteen minutes to town !

Tv in room 10 needs to replace.

The worst managed guest house we have struck in the world. We did not see anyone working at the hotel between reception and leaving apart from at breakfast during a two night stay. We complained that our TV did not work during our first breakfast and it was not repaired or replaced. There was no radio and no Wi-Fi. There was no telephone as per brochure. Toilet failed to function properly. Breakfast room on morning one was not unlocked until 8.30am (brochure says it begins at 8am) and no explanation was offered. On morning two we discovered people having breakfast at 7.30am and rushed to join them (again no explanation). To cap it all our one pound change when paying the bill was in a multiple of coins from one to twenty pence.
