The location and the proximity to a fabulous old inn and restaurant. The television worked. We booked this hotel because we had stayed there before and it was a really nice olde worlde friendly hotel with a lovely restaurant. . What we found was a set of rooms with the only access up 2 flights of stairs. The lift outside our room (if working -- as we dare not try it) went down to the old reception desk near the restaurant which was locked behind a key coded door. I believe this lack of disability access contravenes the disability discrimination act, There was no breaksfast service even though the booking confirmation said breakfast menu available, no reception, no staff on site and no restaurant. The mattress and pillows were dirty, the toilet did not flush properly, the hot and cold taps were plumbed the wrong way, the fire instructions were not for our room, 2 of the 5 lights did not work and the room was not serviced on the Sunday. I could go on but would need more room than this. Backpackers or students may be ok with it but for mature people it is an insult to us to describe The Abbey as a hotel. This is a fabulous hotel ruined.

Location - very convenient for Wymondham restaurants, shops, estate agents. Very quiet location with good views of the Abbey and its grounds. Didn't realise there were no staff on the premises. Fortunately found a guy putting sheets into washing machine at the back of the hotel, so could get advice/room number/door codes from him. If you don't have a printer or android you can't download this information on booking. On street parking only, although ignoring double yellow lines etc was okay so long as car was moved by 08.30 am. Plumbing rather noisy, but other guests/residents very quiet. No hot water to shower but no staff on site to report it to. Bed quite comfortable and room heater okay. Basic decor, but value for money.

It was very good value for money and very comfortable. There was not any information in the room about the area: where to eat etc. The shower was very difficult to get warm and was not very powerful.

We arrived to find no hotel reception and no idea how to get into our allocated room. I then phoned the given number and had to call 3 times to get the room code as they took so long. they didn't seem to care we were in a hurry! I then reciecved 2 text messages with different codes to different rooms - not safety conscious at all and left me in doubt at leaving my luggage in the room. Finally, once in the room it stank of cigarette smoke and we had to 'air' the room for the rest of the day.

Very little. It is much changed since my previous visit some 8 years ago. The hotel is an unmanned hostel and consequently expensive for what it offers. The concept was probably well intended but is unpleasant in practice and gives the impression of being run on a restricted budget. With a heavy heart, bssed on prior experience, I will avoid it on future visits and warn friends off it. On a practical point, attention should be paid to plumbing (my shower was a basic domestic model with dangerous lack of temperature control and a head which jetted water horizontally). The rooms was adequate with a good bed but worn towels. Wall partions are thin and the corriders noisy, floor joists are springy so there isn't much peace. Signing is poor for rooms. It seems expensive for hostel accomodation and there is no catering; breakfast must be sought in the town. Parking is non-existant. This is a profit centre for the owners and shouldn't be described as an hotel.

There was little alternative accommodation available in the area and so therefore the mjb Abbey Hotel is convenient. It is to be found in a quiet location, opposite the Abbey, with plentiful parking on the surrounding streets. Having overcome the drama of the key code entry system and the comments written below (in the What didn't I like" box), I would stay again as now my expectations would be adjusted accordingly. It suited my purpose for a three night stay. To describe it as a "hotel" is stretching it a little, as the room was not serviced through my stay. I bought washing up liquid from the local shop in order to wash my cup and saucer as well as fresh milk daily as the only place to keep this cold was by an open window. It is a little shaddy, with the curtains hanging from just a few hooks in parts. It was niosy in the night with people coming and going, which was a little alarming.

Location - in centre of Wymondham. Old building in beautiful location. Plenty of cafes etc. Currently (Feb 2012) under some renovation such that it has no staff, reception or food and poor heating in room. All this stated on the email from Hotel so go prepared with cereal breakfast, blower heater and soap!

This hotel is unstaffed, there is no reception or bar, you are given a code for the main door and then your room. However it is clean and comfortable and excellent rate for a room.

We booked this within three weeks of staying for two nights; two standard rooms.Pleasantly surprised as were not expecting too much after we had booked and then read the reviews!! Many were not very favourable. We hit lucky, our two rooms had comfy beds and ensuite facilities. We had the facilities that was stated online. Were very pleasantly surprised to get a change of towels for the second nght stay. For the special offer price; was good value. We gather from other guests that some were rooms only and shared toilets and bathroom facilities. Would not have been happy with that even if the rooms were offered at discount rates. The hotel itself needs some love and attention and there are one or two safety issues I.E. double socket in one the the standard rooms was broken and exposed. At the time of stay no facilities for parking the car.

We love the layout and designed of the selfcontained apartment. The furnitures of high quality ,bed very confortable. Carpet very clean and the heating in the apartment very satisfactory.Generally speaking the orientation of the apartment excellent. The Kettle and the Microwave was a great access to the apartment. Clean sheet and pillowcase and duva made our night rest very confortable. From the health and safety aspects: The bath need antislip mats and support safety grips to supprot getting in and out of the bath tub. The bath could benefit from a shower protective water screen to prevent water from falling onto the floor. The television provided in the apartment fail to pick up any station regardless .I believe that digital signal fail to travel that far. The cd player did work. .

Apart from the obvious ..Location...Rooms were comfortable, spacious and well equipped. However, although it is under renovation which of course justifies the low price..Its great value for money . Peaceful surrondings. Rooms are original ...Comfortable beds. Great bath tubs. Like the idea of Room codes...Not having to pass through a reception area. Plenty of space. Quaint and ideal for the low budget but attractive getaways either for business or weekend breaks...Close to town and local activities..Would recommend it to anyone. Under renovation...Not a problem and the basics are there...I Did find that the pillows are sparse and the spare ones in the closets are old..Could do with some new ones...Not all rooms have Iron and Ironing boards...Not all rooms have Microwaves...as there is no reception area would be nice for all rooms to have a Microwave.. Not all rooms have Mirrors located above a socket...Very important for drying hair ...Although I found rooms 1a and 1b attractive...Unfortunately the layout of the entrance ...makes the rooms very vunerable to noice..Main front door does not close properly...Visiters often spend time chatting at entrance and pin codes make it noisey...which is a pity as these rooms are attractive. The price variation of rooms is very little...But rooms 1a and 1b should be marked at the lowest price always as these rooms have not en suite...The Communial bathroom is two floors up....But very big and clean..but most inconvenient...Regards...

I thought the building from the outside was magnificent and the location, right next to the Abbey is stunning. The room we had was excellent value for money if a little starkly equipped. I did not like the fact that there were no staff on hand at all to deal with any issues we had with the room.

Excellent location, right in the heart of Wymondham with nice view of Abbey. There is no reception, bar, breakfast facilities etc. It is more like a motel now.
