Abbeyfield HotelTal-Y-Bont, Talybont, LL57 3UR Bangor Wales (Show map) Good, Score from 53 reviews“Good food. Pleasantly out of the way - horses in a field outside our window.”
Daniel,
Oxford
Abbeyfield Hotel is located off the A5 on the edge of Bangor in an area of natural beauty. Each bedroom has a private bathroom, digital TV and free wireless internet. The hotel is convenient for the mountains, lakes and forests of Snowdonia National Park, as well as Gwynedd's dramatic coastline. There is a public bar and a small, cozy restaurant serving very good British food, using local Welsh produce where possible. Over the years Abbeyfield Hotel has been a coaching inn, a farmhouse, and since 1968, a private hotel. Hotel Rooms: 11

One of the hotel staff that I came into contact with on arrival was good, he was very polite and couldn't do enough for me. I didnt like the (musty ) smell in the room, also the shower head was fixed in the one position, so showering was not easy. I didn't like being ignored when I wanted to get another drink from the bar, the lady serving had her back turned to me , I waited three mins, then went to reception rang the bell she then came to the reception I asked for my key to the room.

It was very close to my appointment. I wasn't aware that the hotel was so close to a trainline - there was no mention of it and I think that should be very clearly stated as I had a very bad nights sleep because of the noise. I couldn't open the window either due to the noise so the room was uncomfortably hot. Compared to another guest house I stayed in the following night - which was cheaper, this didn't offer much value for money and I won't be back.

Good rural location, close to Penrhyn Castle & Bangor. Good homemade bar meals. Very close to main railway line. Trains pass at speed late into the night & early morning - took a while to get used to.

It is located in a beautiful place. The staff were friendly and the food good. We also liked the fact that it included breakfast. The walls were really thin... We could hear the neighbours in their business. The furniture looks a bit tired.

Quality of breakfast food and breakfast service. The matress needs replacing it left me with back ache and the floor boards by the bed creaked badly making it difficult to get up without making a noise and disturbing other users. The stair access, door closer, is inefficient allowing the door to slam waking me on two occasions.

The hotel was very clean but in need of new decor, food and drink were very good and not expensive. Due to the time of year it was very cold and the heating were not put on till late afternoon which meant we had to get into bed fully dressed to try keep warm. So if your going in cold months take a plug inroom heater. But once heating put on come bedtime the room was very warm. As only a few miles from the town I was able to take the bus to and from town (no5 and 5x) which was very cheap. The hotel is in the perfect area to see the sights with a castle about 1/2 a mile away. We will be going back to the area but will rent a cottage next time. We give this stay 9/10. Only the cold room spoilt it for me a bit.

Location good road connections. Quiet apart from being right beside the main North Wales Coastal Railway line. Family run style... relaxed Creaking floor boards. Doors with no "cushion" supportive closing.. Every one that came to the 1st floor bedrooms, slammed the doors!

Comfortable beds and a reasonable breakfast. The bar had a good selection of beers and an extensive food menu. We had a family room that consisted of a double bed and a single. The room was better suited as a double rather than a family room; to accommodate the extra single bed the double had to be pushed up against the outside wall. Too much of a squeeze in a room of that size. The floors were very creaky and the shower could have benefited for a scrub hence the 'fair' mark on cleanliness. Otherwise it would have been 'Good'

The Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The Restaurant menu was extensive and I can certainly recommend the Chocolate Brownie. It is small quiet hotel, our bedroom was above the bar bur we weren't disturbed. The restaurant is open to non residents but this was not a problem. The room was perfectly comfortable and the shower room clean and well kept, my only complaint would be that the door was rather stiff and the lock difficult to open sometimes. They hadn't noticed that one of the bulbs had gone in the light fitting and it wasn't a particularly light room. But minor points.

Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent evening meal and breakfast. Clean although somewhat basic facilities. Our room backed directly onto the main railway line which was very noisy. Little attention to detail of fittings and fixtures - room door rattled very badly, bathroom door handle held on by only a single screw.

Food was pretty good Hotel was "far"from Bangor, I'd requested a ground floor room, as one of the travelers had knee problems, and was told it was only one level, but there was a winding narrow stairs to get to the first floor, didn't know it would be there or would have canelled.

Good food. Pleasantly out of the way - horses in a field outside our window. Room curtains were too thin and didn't stop the glow of the streetlights. No wireless (I didn't ask, about it, but no networks were visible).

The breakfast. Very dated, lot of woodchip. You could everything going on around the place, like the bar, people talking in the rooms next door, doors slamming. They took the payment on my card I used for securing the reservation without even asking.

“The room was a good size, with a large bathroom and lots of hot water.Althought it is situated by a road junction, the double glazing was very effective at cutting out traffic noise. There was off road parking and a garden, but the weather prevented us using the garden. The staff were friendly and helpful.” Margaret, Preston |
