Just metres from Canterbury’s medieval West Gate, this charming building dates back to 1403. A former coaching inn, it offers free Wi-Fi and free parking, 2 minutes’ walk from the city centre.

building work going on but to be fair, didn't start until we were out of bed
Comfort Cleanliness Friendly staff
The hotel is well back from a busy road in a beautiful green setting. We were greeted with courtesy, warmth and efficiency. The restaurant staff served us in the same spirit. The bright traditional décor throughout the hotel is impressive and the room well equipped, clean and conveyed a touch of luxury. I had stayed at Abbots Barton a couple of years ago, when I needed to be in Canterbury and, knowing that we would be coming for a Golden Wedding Anniversary in the town I was determined to bring my wife to this hotel...... and we were both glad we came. Thank you.
The shortage of parking space was difficult. I hope there will be increased space when the building development is complete. The view from the building site window was not so good but it did not bother us for a one night stay...... but next time !!!!!
Quiet location, excellent decor, comfortable room and relaxing bar all within easy reach of cathedral city of. Canterbury and Dover ferry port. Thank you.
Nice room, car park, good breakfast
No WiFi without registration. Breakfast should be included in the price.
Comfortable beds and very close to the city centre.
Upon arrival (half an hour after check in opens) we were told there would be a 40 min wait for our room which was a huge inconvenience to our tight itinerary for the day and very unexpected. We were upgraded to an 'executive room' but the main feature of the room (the jacuzzi bath) was out of order! Which we were informed, after enquiring about the fault, the hotel were aware of! We felt undervalued as guests. Generally disappointed by the service experienced.
Size and layout of room and that there was a bath not just a shower
Expensive for a family of four - pity there was no family room
Comfortable and clean Easy walking to town centre
Quiet location... and a good night's sleep
Phone alarm clock did not work. Invoice delivered under the door was not a VAT invoice.
Excellent location loved the pictures and our room
the red décor was a little too much ! and no windows in the dining room.
Good parking nice room and welcoming staff.
Breakfast was expensive
The hotel was lovely and staff were great, near enough city centre to make everything we wanted to do possible.
Upon arrival we had to go away and come back a couple of hours later as the car park was too full for us to park in, and is honestly an insufficient size for the hotel's capacity. On the second night builders started work ar
Very close to Canterbury, just a 10 minute stroll to the main shopping/attractions area. Beautiful grounds, beautiful building, and the hotel is set well back from the road in its own grounds, which keeps it relatively quiet (Old Dover Road is VERY busy!). Staff really nice and very friendly.
We were in a room overlooking the new extension that is being built, so the view wasn't exactly great, which was a pity - but then, the view from the room is not exactly a critical thing in a 1-night stay! The noise of the cement truck, however, revving its engine around 07:40 wasn't exactly appreciated either! I understand they need to get moving early, but maybe an 08:00 curfew might be a good compromise?!?. Although the food in the restaurant was lovely, it seemed to take quite a long time to be served with the food, even though it wasn't overly busy at the time.
Location, pleasant staff all good at their job
Room a bit dark otherwise fine
The staff were brilliantly helpful. Polite, and kind. The rom was clean and well equipped.
Unfortunately the room was above the kitchen and the fan hummed loudly from about 8:00 in the morning to 9:30 at night.
Charming hotel in a quiet park at about 10 minutes walking from the city Center. Very friendly staff. Large and very clean room. Parking and wifi.
- The room was dated, smelled, bed springs broken, rough linen, air conditioning fluctuated and smelled damp. - Staff rude, 3 walked past us while waiting to check in at reception - I had to located someone myself! - Didn't have breakfast as it was £12.95 each, and had read reviews saying it was awful anyway - had breakfast at a local cafe which was lovely! - Duty manager didn't care in the slightest that we were disappointed with our stay, he simply said 'i'll pass on your comments, have a good day' - Noisy - kept awake until 4am! - No parking! - Far too expensive for what you actually get, which is a pretty terrible stay. I would never return to this hotel and would suggest you look elsewhere!
The staff were all excellent. Helpful, professional and friendly. We had an issue with the room which was resolved sympathetically and swiftly
Our first room faced the construction site and had extractor fans outside the window, which made an intermittent noise all the time. Very disturbing at night. Thought the breakfast was not worth the additional cost. Would have liked a continental breakfast included in the price
Every thing from the gothic features to the extremely pleasant staff
I liked every thing about the hotel
woke at 1.30am room filled with fumes smoke alarm did not activate rang reception twice no reply had to get dressed find somebody who told us there had been a fire in a washer dryer.fire serice had been called.told to open windows and put a.c. on.our clothes smelled of smoke .we both had headaches.then we had workman on the roof at 7.30 am.horrible xperience.coul have died in our beds.
good location nice bar
breakfast should be included in the price
Staff really rude! Unhelpful and slow. Asked for early check in. Didn't get it and they still tried charging us the £20 for doing so. Would never go back!!!
Nice and clean. Air con much appreciated!
Shame some of our fellow residents decided to kick off in the small hours. Lots of shouting and violent and offensive language. Not the hotel's fault.
