The lack of comforts in the room The futon bed
Nothing, i'm sorry to say other than the manageress let me cancel my stay without charge and accepted my complaints. Sadly she wasn't on duty on the night of my arrival.
I didn't get what I had booked and was told the hotel was full, so couldn't change but I only saw 4 people in the hotel for my stay! So, why did I leave after the first night? Dirty hotel, cups in room not clean, bin not emptied, somebody's razor and shampoo left in the shower, broken jagged edged mirror on door, body hairs in the bed, and very precarious extension lead serving lights, TV, and kettle balanced on shelf above the extension sockets. I could go on .....
Wifi worked in my room. The manager apologised next day for unhelpfulness of staff when we arrived. She cared.
No hair dryer. Door had been hacked at. Curtain coming off rail. No shampoo, no lampshade in loo. Hall carpet was very dirty. Would benefit from advice on running a hotel.
Warm room comfortable bed Good breakfast.
No wardrobe not even a hook or coat hanger. 1 bedside table and lamp. Obviously undergoing a degree of upgrading which hopefully will address the short comings
Loved the staff Mike and Linda are a lovely welcome fun loving couple xxxx
Staff very pleasant. Breakfast was exelent. Good location for the local eateries and pubs. Just as well as when we went to the bar at 20:30. it was in darkness.
The room was at premium rate but was actually worth about half that value. A single room with a double bed squeezed in. Very small TV. No chair (No room for it. Sit on the bed)
the breakfasts were amazing and our evening meal was very good
The traffic system in Galashiels is not good and it was tricky finding location of hotel . There was no hanging rail in our bedroom and bed was very low but quite comfy
Only saw 1 member of staff-the owner, who was very pleasant &helpful. Very good selection of breakfast food, well cooked and warm.
Room was cold overnight&would have welcomed thicker duvet/extra blanket.Shower tray was mouldy.
The beds were extreemly comfortable. We could hear people coming in very late, not exactly quietly. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
The hotel had an evening meal of Italian food, so we were looking forward to English food the following night, but no! the food still had an Italian influance. Roast chicken was like shoe leather.
Very welcoming, nicely furnished, warm, easy walk to town with an interesting mix of shopping and entertainment venues.
Room was just a little short of clothes storage. No problem for one night.
Bed quite comfortable. Breakfast reasonable.
Nobody there on arrival 1300hrs. Given wrong room initially, Facilities bare minimum. Peeling paint in shower cubicle. 5 bulb holders in bedroom ceiling light but of 4 bulbs only 1 working. Woken at 0100hrs by noisy men outside. Couldn't establish wifi. Filthy main stair carpet. Definitely would not revisit!
Location. Pleasant Staff. Usual facilities (TV, coffee, Wi Fi, etc.) - even biscuits in the room. Nice breakfast and evening meals.
service was great so was the food
Its rather dingy and un welcoming. No wardrobes in rooms and very claustrophobic
Breakfast was good.
Bed and linen was very poor quality. Shower had been fitted to panels were not waterproof.
The Abbotsford is a friendly, clean, and comfortable place to stay and I'd recommend it to others. There are some areas where the decor is tired, but this is just cosmetic. The room was kept clean, and I was welcomed like an old friend on only my second visit (the first being 6 months ago).
It was 2 years since we stayed here last and it was really a building site with little in the way of facilities. Now the bar and dining areas are excellent, the rooms are very clean but spartan in reasonable furniture, the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was clean and functional. The staff are very keen to please and are very helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending this, just remember it is a work in progress and you won't be disappointed.
A lot has been done to the place but it is still a work in progress.
Too expensive, windows broken
It was comfortable practical and clean and suited me. The breakfast was nice
Although it is recently under new management and it does need improvement to the hotel, the current owners were lovely and I would gladly stay again. I wish them all the best in this venture.
Really lovely breakfast. Obliging staff.
Room smelled of smoke. Didn't think to ask for a non smoking room as thought that smoking was no longer accepted in Hotel rooms. No tiles In shower. Understand that it is an old hotel and that owners are gradually doing place up.
The situation was perfect. the rooms large but basic, the food was good and very good value.
the shower unit was needing redone one bedroom had a bed infront of the fire escape I am sure the present owners will have it up to scratch by next year.
Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Convenient location for tourism.
The hotel is in the process of being refurbished & is therefore in need of decoration & new carpets in most public areas. It is clean, however. Our twin bedded room was very small & had a broken window lock which meant it couldn't be opened. This made it very uncomfortable, although the staff were aware of the problem & were waiting for it to be repaired. Due to major construction works the hotel can only be accessed from Currie Road & using the given address on Satnav leads to the wrong place.
Friendly staff and a good breakfast
For the price, I would have expected a lot more. There was nothing provided in the bathroom except 1 plastic cup (not even hand soap), no iron, nowhere to hang clothes, stained towels and a creaky bed. The walls were thin and we were woken by music in the bar at 1am and someone being sick in the next room at 5am. The bathroom door and the window did not shut.
