Even though I got a reservation from Booking with a reservation number, they did not have it! We arrived at 9:30pm; at 9:35 they did not serve us a dinner. My request on wake-up call was forgotten.

Free wifi throughout the hotel. Breakfasts slightly better than average. Easy access to a34. Having previously stayed at the Oxford Thames this hotel was a great disappointment. It is squeezed in between the main dual carriageway into Abingdon and the All-Night Tescos Extra & slip road behind it. Both rooms we had use of were dimly lit and cramped especially at the bottom of the beds (it was impossible to walk past anyone sat at the desk). The Lunch Menu was off-putting due to the high food & beverage prices. Restaurant & Check-In Staff were disinterested/inattentive when we arrived. We had to change our room because of noise from the dual carriageway - but, having repeated our request for a quiet room at night, nobody felt it appropriate to mention that the hotel had two events booked on the Saturday night including a noisy Hen Party scheduled to go on until at least 1am (very close to the room we move to tp escape the noise from lorries/cars etc). The girl on reception on the Saturday night/Sunday morning is exempt from my adverse comments as she was very understanding & helpful and thankfully managed to find us a quieter room on the far side of the building.

Restaurant was OK and service good I stayed at the 4 Pillars in Oxford the previous night which was good - this hotel was more like a travel lodge in a shopping area ourside of Abingdon. In the room, there was a small stool at a small low desk which was very comfortable to work at. The hotel is on a main road and very noisy with traffic all night. There is no lift but staff did offer to carry my luggage. It was OK for a one night business trip.

Breakfast, although self service, was actually very tasty. My room wasn't particularly clean and the hotel's decor was in dire need of an update. I also think I should mention that the hotel lost my booking and had to make me a new one. The following morning, whilst checking out, the missing booking had mysteriously reappeared and I was told I had to pay for two rooms. Outrageous! To cut it short, I got them to see sense and I only paid for the one room but I certainly won't be staying at The Four Pillars again.

The front desk was very helpful in finding somewhere for our party of 8 to eat after they lost our reservation for dinner and couldn't accommodate us. Heater in room was temperamental leading to a cold room in the morning although they promised to fix it when we told them.

Friendly, helpful staff; clean, well-appointed bedrooms for short stays; great location for exploring surrounding countryside and access to Oxford. Good choices for breakfast and very convenient car parking - all for modest charges!

It had everything to make a one night stay very simple and comfortable. Also, despite being near a busy road, it was very quiet. The discretion of handing room keys to a single woman was also reassuring. On this occasion, the room (28) was far too hot and I could not adjust the heating. However, I simply turned it off and the room remained warm enough, even when I was getting up in the morning.

At the dinner table, my children were quite distractive but the staff on duty were most understanding and did not make us feel guilty. What is more the lady who served us was very kind and obedient even to my children nonsense. I most admire that, it made us feel relaxed and most grateful thank you. There was only one minor thing there, probably not worth mentioning it; but our bath towels had a funny smell of frying oil. Not that it was strong smell, oh no, not at all, but it was there. Than I remembered, once I washed a tea towel that was slightly greasy and smelled of frying oil; then, all the rest of the washing smelled just the same as your towels did.

As a regular client of 4 Pillars Group Hotels I found this hotel well up to their high standards. The only critism I have if that the entrance way is difficult to find in the dark . The direction signage in general is either hidden or poorly located. A sign on the nearby roundabout would be a benefit too.
