Oxford Abingdon Four Pillars Hotel  

Location

A coach was parked across the Hotel Building Entrance while delivering guests and unloading their numerous suit cases. This caused havoc for the other guests arriving and departing. We had to wait 20 minutes before we were able to access a car park space, and then wait in a long queue to check in. We requested (via Internet) our two rooms on the ground floor for 2 disabled. We were given one room on the first floor (no lift) and one room at the far end of the corridor on the ground floor (a very long walk for a person with difficulties). Both our rooms smelt of damp. We were told no other rooms were available. While we were seated in the lounge, the external double doors were kept open permitting the foul air from the outside smokers to enter (later closed on our request). At breakfast we discovered the milk for the cereals was sour and reported the fact. Following guests were allowed to continue pouring this milk until fresh milk arrived some 10 minutes later.

The beds were to small and the rooms were a little dated.

We enjoyed our stay except for the noisy floor so every step was heard although we did find it funny

Convenient location. Although near busy roads did not seem to bother us.

Friendly staff and very helpful nothing was too much trouble, also the breakfast was superb. The wedding annivesary that we went to was well handled by the staff and it went by without a hitch.

Only issue i would say was in the consevatory room the roof leaked in water when it rained hard, needs to eb sorted and in our room the toilet sheets was broken.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The upgrade was welcomed.

The location was not the best, next to tesco on a retail park. Breakfast looked a bit tired by the time we went for breakfast at 9.30am

We have stayed at this hotel before and found it convenient and suits our needs. Very clean, staff very friendly. However, see below.

We found the lighting in our room very poor. Whatever lighting there was proved to be insufficient and was dim in the extreme. We complained to thge receptionist who said she would speak with the duty manager. There was a party of some kind that evening in one of the hotels reception rooms. There was obviously a disco of some sort at the party which carried on until at least 1 A.M. Our room overlooked the reception room and therefore found the music a distration to sleep. On a minor point I found the pillows exceptionally hard.

The beds are not very comfortable. The temperature of the showers can be erratic.
