Abington Hotel78 Carlisle Road, 3/4 Mile From Junction, M74, Abington, ML12 6SD Abington (Show map) Very good, Score from 36 reviews“An excellent family run hotel. Nice room, friendly helpful staff and an excellent reasonably priced meal in the bar/lounge. Breakfast good also. We used it as a stop-over on the way to Nothern Scotland and for this, with it's proximity to the motorway (only a few miles), it was an excellent choice.”

Coventry
Less than a mile from junction 13 of the M74, this hotel is easy to find and features free Wi-Fi internet access throughout, and ample free parking. This friendly, family-run hotel is situated in the heart of a picturesque village in central Scotland and offers a comfortable, reasonably priced touring base. The centers of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling and the Trossachs, Burns country and Walter Scott country are all about a one hour drive away. Had you traveled by stagecoach on the hazardous Carlisle-Glasgow route in the 1800s you would certainly have appreciated the hospitality and warmth of the Abington Coaching Inn, just as Napoleon III did in 1839 when he rested there after a tiring day’s grouse shooting. You can still find his chair in the hotel. Hotel Rooms: 28

I stayed here as I was attending a wedding nearby. There is little to do/see in Abington, however, this hotel is ideal as a base and there are good parking facilities on site. The staff here were all extremely welcoming, jovial and nothing was too much bother. The breakfast was nice with a good range of options. Other wedding guests were staying at Days Inn nearby and I think the Abington, while accessible, is far more comfortable and in a prettier location (I.e in a village rather than a typical motorway hotel).

Friendly welcome from the young man who checked us in. Good breakfast. Good location for our journey further north. Room could have been bigger if we were staying longer.

three friends stayed on the way to the Scottish highlands. We all had a very comfortable room. We had a bar meal which was excellent and the portions more than enough, more so we could not even manage a dessert. There was a very good breakfast to start us on our way north.

Considering we had made a mistake in our booking and turned up a day late, the staff were very helpful in accomodating us and made no additional charge. Thanks.

Used the Hotel as a stop during a journey from Scotland. The staff were friendly and the evening meal and breakfast were good. The hotel is situated just off the motorway in a small village setting. The hotel offers good value for the rates charged. The Hotel is a little tired looking but the rooms and guest areas were very clean

An excellent family run hotel. Nice room, friendly helpful staff and an excellent reasonably priced meal in the bar/lounge. Breakfast good also. We used it as a stop-over on the way to Nothern Scotland and for this, with it's proximity to the motorway (only a few miles), it was an excellent choice. My wife did not find the mattress comfortable, but she has a back problem. I found the mattress comfortable, so it's probably not a valid complaint - just personal preference and you can't please everyone all the time. It wasn't something we would complain about.

The exceptionally friendly service. Good food at a reasonable price. TV reception in my room was really bad, but it was excellent in the communal area. Unfortunately I don't watch soaps, nor do I want it almost permanently on ITV!

To be honest we found very little to like at the Abington Hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful that is the best I can offer. The whole hotel had a dingy, seedy feel to it as if it had seen better days. The room had a double and 2 single beds jammed into it and only one chair - which had definitely seen better days! The tiles on the floor of the bathroom had grouting missing and did not look clean. The whole hotel smelt of damp, dirt - who knows what!As with any public place in the uk no smoking was allowed within the hotel but people smoked right at the entrance and the smell drifted back into the hotel. The whole place needed repainting and refurbishing, the only way to achieve this would be to close the hotel for a month. No easy disabled access to the bedrooms, narrow corridors awkward fire doors. Just about anything you can imagine was grotty!
