The Abington Hotel is situated in the heart of a picturesque village in central Scotland. Close to the m74, j13. This 3-star hotel is 100% non smoking.
This friendly family run hotel offers a comfortable and reasonably priced touring base whilst visiting Scotland. Not only is the hotel easy to find, but the centres of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling and the Trossachs, Burns Country and Walter Scott country are all about an hours drive away.
Had you travelled by stage coach on the hazardous Carlisle-Glasgow route in the 1800's you would certainly have appreciated the hospitality and warmth of the Abington Coaching Inn-just as Napoleon iii did in 1839 when he rested here after a tiring days grouse shooting. You can still find his chair in the hotel.

As I am disabled the staff were very accommodating in helping me enjoy my stay at the hotel.

The hotel was very dated and in desperate need of a revamp, the bar area was layed out very strangely with comfy sofas, but tables that were miles too high, and nice feature fire place was blocked by another table!

Close to the motorway

Very friendly, chatty and polite staff (I can't abide over fussy and over-bearing staff!). Nice and simple, enjoyable fare on the menu. (I have seen other comments slating the menu/prices, but if you want wide choices then go stay at a more expensive hotel!). I was very pleasantly surprised on checking out that the evening meal was included in the room price!
Hotel is nicely located on the old A74 (and one minute from A/M74) for stopping off before hitting the chaos of Glasgow and Edinburgh traffic and is roughly about the same distance from both on the main routes. Will certainly be staying there again!

The surrounding village...all one road of it...was pleasant and quiet

The room was cramped and so was the bathroom, more like a single than a double.

Be warned that there are quite a few stairs and no lifts
