Location Staff Building itself is interesting Hostel is refurnbishing now, so I think they will make it more cosy and comfy
Tiny bathroom Loudy beds Small breakfast
Very nice place to stay overall.
Great location as it is close to the station, nice staff, stylish house.
One reception didn't allow me to change my room as it was in basement.
The staff (front desk and cleaning) and location were amazing. They were always super helpful, knowledgeable, and kind.
The internet rarely worked during my stay.
beautiful building lovely staff great location clean
easy walking to town informative staff about where to park (for free) seems like lots of hot college backpacker girls.. who somehow dissapeared or not seen during breakfast though female receptionist was hot ;)
not friendly environment due to size of the place no kitchen, no hot water facilities shower place was small lots of stairs to climb no free or private parking nearby strange parking rate and hours
Comfortable and friendly
The room is clean, location is quite good.
No internet due to broken modem
Drunk people kept annoying us and switching the light on and off until 4:30am. I would nearly call the police if they annoyed us more. It was nothing wrong with the hostel, but I will not stay there again.
Very nice building. The staff member at the reception desk was very friendly and helpful. The hostel is not far from the railway station and the city center. It's located in a street with lots of bars, clubs, restaurants. Other sites said it was fully booked, but on this site I was still able to book, at a nice discount too.
Very noisy neighborhood at night (clubs, drunk people,...). 2 drunk girls in our dorm made a lot of noise when they came back.
Staff's friendliness, style of building and rooms, location, price and able to book for one night which is relatively uncommon in York
No curtains on the large windows in the bedrooms
-the house itself. Gorgeous! -the very comfortable mattresses -the interesting historical plaques outside many of the rooms -the superb staff. James-from-Glasgow, in particular, went 'way above and beyond to be courteous, welcoming, and helpful. He has an incredible work ethic and SafeStay is extremely fortunate to have him as an employee. -the keycard entry system -my relief and gratitude that my dorm room was unisex rather than "mixed" as was stated in the literature. -free storage of my bags for an hour or so after checking out. This was a GREAT convenience. -the receptionist's willingness to call a cab for me -the view across the street -the location -I could go on and on. Bottom line: Top quality all around! Thank you so much.
-bunk beds which creak and shake -the lack of access to a fridge, a microwave, and ice. (The literature had said that a kitchen was available to guests.) -the crowded, cooped-up feeling of the main sitting room across from the reception desk with the blaring TV. (In search of a quiet place with a table in order to eat my take-out dinner in peace and organize some papers after my roommates had retired, I found the perfect spot - - the dining room! Had taken a bench off of one of those beautiful long tables and was happily working away and minding my own business, but was soon asked to leave. :-( (Very politely, however!) -The "game room" in the basement, which is where I finally ended up, was poorly lighted, cold, and too crowded with bulky, overstuffed couches. Some simple straight chairs at tables with lamps on them would be much more preferable and "cozy." Anne from Baltimore, Maryland (US)
The place have a very good location and the house n awesome. The rooms have space and the bathrooms are clean.
The WIFI signal is very poor and was a little bit difficult to use internet there.
just the location
the bathroom too small, without towel or shampoo, no wifi in the rooms, uncomfortable beds... i don´t recommend this hostal
Very clean,quiet and spacious room.
Lack of wifi in the bedroom
near to the city, good price
bad management :some one came at 2 o'clock at night woke up me because he had a same bed number.... poor management!!!
Fabiana was very helpful when I needed to amend booking. The guys working night shift kept everyone well under control ensuring a good nights sleep for other guests. Good old common sense across the board. Perfect location for easy access to train, racing, bars and restaurants.
There was no bar as originally advertised but I appreciate a change in management. However this was compounded as you couldn't drink your own wine/beer in the public area's.
Staff were class. Friendly and very fair.
the location is really nice, and this is a very classy hostel with history. definitely the best hostel i have tried in UK
you can't use wifi upstairs which is quite inconvinient
Staff are great.
Bathroom in the room is too small and no window, so the smell becomes bad after a while.
Perfect location. Easy street parking nearby. Charming old townhouse.
The location is good, close to the train station and city center. Value for the price.
Not much light in the room. It's too dark.
very central, comfy beds, 24hr access, breakfast included in price
very noisy location and windows had to be open due to the heat. Not enough toilets / showers for the number of people as toilet / showers often 1 room. Website needs updated by new owners, as mentioned 24hr bar which did not exist.
Location, Price and service.
Nothing to dislike.
