Less than a mile from the historic center of York, this hotel, which was built in 1870, retains stained glass windows and a splendid oak staircase.
Score from 1425 reviews Good
Location was excellent. Historic stories of the people who lived there before it was a hotel. Great room size.
You had to go down stairs to use the Wifi. A bath mate and hand towel would have been nice for the bath room.
Comfortable spacious rooms, excellent value For money
Great room, comfy bed, own bathroom, room was nice and warm with tea and coffee making facilities and hair dryer. Great visit!
The hike to our room! But it was worth it!
Location, close to the principal sites and train station
check-out time at 10am. It should be at least 12pm.
Stayed in a twin en-suite room. Room was spotless. Check in was quick & easy(even allowed us to check-in a little earlier). Hairdryer in room already. Small toiletries in shower room provided. Tea, coffee etc. Nice size TV. Would stay here again.
Room was to hot for us but this was personal opinion. Couldn't open window due to traffic noise. Safe was provided but it is not secured to anything??
The staff are not bad
The room I was staying in my first night was so cold the hither wasn't working I couldn't sleep all night because a very load music coming from some night club outside The breakfast was poor as well
Safestay York is a beautiful historical building sympathetically converted into a clean, bright place to stay. Easy on the pocket, central location.
The name of the accommodation!
Great location, lovely building, friendly staff, great fun with friends staying in one room
All was good
Location Rooms fine
Very good location close to York center. Nice quiet spacious room, very good bed. Breakfast ok. Friendly staff, giving great advice and tips for holiday. Would definitely stay again.
Helpful staffs and excellent breakfast!
The location was close to the centre of York, an easy walking distance. Staff were really nice.
There was renovations going on so things seemed a bit chaotic. The breakfast was OK but a bit youth hostel like and wasn't that great value for the money. The private bathroom in our room was essentially a wet room.
The people at reception are very nice. The location is really good.
The shower's water leaks to the room and floods part of it. Depend on the bed you are you have to put your feet on the water to get up of the bed. In the bathroom there is no place to hold your towel and clothes neither the shampoo and soup on the shower.
Second time staying here. Very clean and friendly. Great location and atmosphere. Will deffinaty go back for a third stay.
Everything was good
Character features :-) modern, funky and location to York
Breakfast was poor
Beds were clean Rooms large Checkin quick
No guest kitchen, not even a kettle or microwave available Rooms were not heated No sleeping in or going to bed early due to construction work
The only thing that we like was the shower head. We also like the look of the room the old meets the new style.
Not all the facilities were available, no T.V was in the room, the bar was not open both due to refurbishment. The carpets up the stairs were dangerous - coming away at the sides. Complained to the reception about the T.V. and was "yes there is NO T.V." said the a member of staff as being refurbished. We booked the accommodation 1 1/2 months ago and we had no communication to tell us about the the refurb.
No lift and we were on 3rd floor with a disabled guest, no mention of lack of facilities or location of family room on booking.
Amazing city location, fantastic historic building, excellent beds, clean bathrooms, helpful staff.
Nothing negative to say.
Age and history of the building.
As a UK citizen, nearly turned away,as had no photo ID? No TV in room. Central, noisy, heating,no control so room re hot in October.
Great bars nearby and a fish and chip shop across the road, lovely staff and fabulous georgian building short walk to the railway station and York city center, just inside the city walls next to the historic micklegate bar
Young people being drunk and rowdy making noise and disturbing peoples sleep from 1 to 5am,running around and acting the goat inside the hostel and shouting loundy, night club down the road playing loud music
Staff helpful and great breakfast
being renovated so no kitchen facilities but overall its a nice place
friendly staff, classy building, sparkling clean rooms and bathrooms, good breakfast.
top bunks a bit difficult for an older gent, when lower bunks were available in dormitory rooms.
