During our 10 days in Wales and Scotland, this was the best place we stayed at and we saw quite good ones. Rooms are superb, staff was very friendly, we felt more at a fiend's place than in a hotel, food was excellent, we were sad to leave and since then, we are looking forward to coming again.
The nearest town, Wick, is clearly not one of the nicest in UK. Nothing to do and to see.
Loved that this hotel had personality and homely charm whilst still retaining top quality 5* service. Will stay again!
Staff spotted that I was a bit lame and moved me to a superior room on a lower floor without being asked and at no extra cost. Food & service was excellent. Extremely comfortable bed.
My stay was too short!
Was a genuine castle with all the atmosphere,. Obviously owners had gone to a great deal of expenses to do this Dinner was great but a little overpriced
Limited bar no lagers other than foreign unknown no drambuie which Must be some kind off Scottish sin
Positioned on the coast the tower stands out starkly. Grounds are beautiful. We sat at breakfast watching sheep fed as we fed. Room was large with good view and staff helpful
The whole ambiance was incredibly magical! The view as you drive up to the castle, watching the sunrise on the sea from your cozy room, watching the extra adorable large rabbits play chase on the lawn and having the jazz music play as we ate our gourmet meal in the majestic dining room. My. Husband and I absolutely Loved this hotel! This is one place to put on your hotel bucket list. It's somewhat isolated however that is what added to the romance: the beautiful serene nature walks, the sea, a chance to recoup, meditate, refocus and energize. The town and airport of Wick are only 20 minutes or so away but you feel like you are centuries away from civilization. The plush canopy bed not only looked comfortable but was luxuriously magnificent to sleep on! The decor was elegant with a fireplace. The room spacious with fantastic views of the sea. The bathroom has both a separate deep tub and shower. The wifi was free but only available in the common rooms. This would be the perfect location to have a wedding, holiday party, or any occasion.
The positives far outweigh any negatives. The shower was small but had decent water pressure. The wifi was only available in common rooms but was free.
It was like staying in your own stately home. With four sitting rooms to choose from all with big open fires and sink into sofas. Great welcome by friendly manager and service from unobtrusive staff. Fab four poster and great cooked breakfast!stunning sea views.
The price! At £350 for the cheapest room and £55 per person for dinner! However it does mean that it is almost empty in peak season and so you have the place to yourself which is great.
The service was excellent, nothing too much. The place was just so very different, almost night at the museum for real.
The breakfasts were always good, although paying as an extra?
Setting, atmosphere, room size and comfort. Restaurant was very good both for breakfast and evening meal. Staff friendly and helpful.
The evening meal was a set menu which we happened to enjoy thoroughly, however, I would check the menu in future when booking to ensure that the food is to our taste.
It is a historic building. The price worth it.
Service can be improved a little.
Unique, peaceful and historical lodging with courteous, efficient and knowledgable staff. Views and grounds to be enjoyed by all. If you are interested in history you can spend hours reading letters and diaris by and about former owners (Ackergill was started in the 15th century). If you prefer hill walking and wildlife it is available only a short distance away. We had a delightful stay!!!
W-fi available only in public rooms
Staff was great! Location great. Food was okay.
A little pricey.
Very nice people that work at the castle. They were very accommodating. The ambiance, the coziness, we just felt at home - so comfortable. Loved it.
The only thing we didn't like was that we couldn't stay longer! - next time.
The location is excellent with beautiful views. Very peaceful and super comfortable. Amazing antiques in every room! Staff super friendly - a thoroughly enjoyable stay for a business trip. Would go back for leisure.
The pace is like museum! Very relaxed atmosphere! We have stayed in a lot of castle hotels before, and I would say Ackergill Tower is really one of the top places! Staff gives you so much freedom and space, you can just go and explore everything yourself. I think they are very good organised when it comes to events and weddings! Whatever little tiny issues you might have, I am sure that location and place just makes up for it! Indeed a highly recommended place.
The overnight is not cheap, but worth the money, however to pay extra for the warm breakfast I found a little awkward.
Room upgraded. Very nice dinner served near the fireplace upon our request. Gorgeous castle. Great experience.
All the breakfast options could have been included in this rate.
