My son is in the navy and lives locally with his family. I found Acorn Lodge on the internet and I am so pleased I did. Excellent value for money.
Helpful staff. Free parking.
The house really needs a good make-over.
size of room and lovely and clean bathroom
no coffee or tea and milk for the 2nd day of our stay
It is really only for working men.. I wouldn't stay here with my family. .
Could be cleaner
Nice size room. Bathroom okay.
Entering the building at the rear which is in a dark, poorly lit road.
Bed was comfortable, nice duvet and pillows. Decor very dated but it was clean.
Couldn't change temperature on the shower which was scalding hot. Being woken up at 3 in the morning by what sounded like the doorbell being rung constantly for half an hour or so. When I tried to cancel the booking I was told I'd have to pay the full price anyway, despite the fact that they had apparently relet the room within 10 minutes -
All night people were coming in being noisy and no staff there to tell them to b quiet
Working local shopping centre I found the rooms good for an evening finish and an early start. Everything I reqd. Was available and staff that I did meet were great.(back tomorrow for the third time).
Nothing as food is very available close to hand.
The member of staff present was very hospitable. We did not arrive until 1:00am although we did call to let them know and he was not angry or put out. He just let us in showed us to our room showed us what to do on leaving and left us to get on.
We were asked to leave before we were ready and then asked to pay more money for extra stay even though we did ask for extra hours at the time of booking. Then discovered there was a mix up with the booking, but all was successfully resolved.
Can't find anything to complain about. Staff were friendly and informative. Rooms were big, clean and comfortable. Highly recommended
Room clean and tidy, location good and WiFi good.
The website said it was a B & B that is why I booked but it is not.
It was clean and the beds where comfy after a day walking about Portsmouth docks.
Had one drunk man singing all the way in and up to his room just after I had dropped off to sleep.
Area where it's located in alright
Strong smell coming from the shower every time we get back to the room. Was not approached about breakfast and wasn't even stated on website.
Friendly staff, very helpful, good location, lovely shower and clean comfy bed.
Very tired, needs updating, slightly overpriced for the quality of the room.
The ferry service to Portsmouth is a 10 minute walk away and a cheap and enjoyable way to get to Gunwharf Quays.
Simple hotel with friendly staff - needed a place to stay with quick access to the local amenities and this fitted the bill perfectly.
Room was a little dark (poor lighting) and reception on the tv kept dipping in and out.
Free wifi, small TV and a kettle
I booked the hotel online (last-minute deal) just to find out upon arrival it was hostel-type accommodation with a few added extras like a small TV in the room and a kettle. The attick room on the third floor was chabby and dirty. It DID not have an en-suite which you would expect to get for £65/night. Linen was clean however the bed bases were broken and the headboard full of hair...had to use towels to cover it up for hygiene reasons. The carpet was really smelly with stains of weird origin; such were the pinkish(?) walls. The whole room decor was out-dated and tired. I had previously spent nights in YMCA hostels that were so much cleaner, traveller-friendlier and good value for money. Acorn Lodge definitely IS NOT. There were only 2 tea bags, 2 coffee satchets and 4 sugars on the tray. AND they did not offer breakfast. We have been 'advised' to visit the nearby Morrison for breakfast (?!!!) This is surprising as just before crossing over to Gosport we had found a guest house for £60 night including breakfast! Acorn lodge does not allow late cancellations, stating that full room price will be charged. Never left a negative review before but this place left me speechless. Had to share my negative impressions. When leaving in the morning, popped my heads into other rooms which appeared to be slightly better. The Sri Lankan receptionist took the keys and did not even say good bye. So much of a service for paying guests.
This accomodation is advertised in a Bed and Breakfast section on line but does not serve breakfast, also the member of staff demanded cash for payment after I had booked it with a card, Had to walk into town to get cash.
Our stay was a one day lay over from a sailing training. Bed was good and shower hot. Can't ask for much more when getting off a boat after a week. Close to shopping, pubs and banks.
could not have shower in the morning due to cold water not working.fire alarm in room went of at 6.15 am woke everyone up in the room
The room was shabby and in the attic, the window is broken the lower rail of the bottom sash has a two inch gap on right and the glass has slipped down. The skylight would not close, there are stains on the walls and the carpet was dirty. generally it was third rate
Pleasant place , excellent value , clean , clean sheets clean shower , no probs , stayed one night .
A little dark on the stair way . was worried after reading other reviews , no problems
24 hour access. No curfews
Office didn't open until 0930, so had to wait to pay my bill
Its a dump
