Hotel great very clean and warm comfortable bed and breakfast was brilliant
There was nothing in this hotel to dislike
Lovely decor - bedroom and bathroom. Cleanliness
Having to be in breakfast room 20 mins before breakfast finished to place hot food order. Stayed in room 6 which was directly above the bar below. A live band was playing early one evening when we had returned to the hotel for a rest before going out later on. The bedroom floor was bouncing with the noise and needless to say we didn't get any rest. Also, bar customers stood right below the bedroom window to smoke and chat until very late in the evening / early hours of the morning which kept us awake. Just wish we'd requested a room on a higher floor.
David was very helpful and the hotel was a good location for our first night
Upon arrival, we noticed a few things that we weren't happy with such as the shower door didn't close properly, the towel rail on the wall was loose, the bed was a very small double bed, the walls were so thin you could hear everything in the room next door. We each took a shower about 4pm on the first day and the shower was only lukewarm. However we brushed these off as they were minor complaints, the rest of the hotel was ok and the gentleman on the front desk, David, was very welcoming and helpful. However, when we took a shower about 11am, the shower was freezing cold! This was the final straw so we complained at front desk only to be told that we'd just got up to late and missed the hot water. When I complained this was not acceptable as we paid for a hotel room so expected to take a hot shower when we like, we were offered use of the 'second' boiler but it could take up to an hour to heat up. I then advised we did not wish to stay any longer and asked for a refund for our second night. The response to this was that he was not authorised to refund money and the owner of the hotel was 'traditional' and would only deal with complaints via post!! Suffice to say after voicing my disgust at this 'only option', we were eventually offered a refund for the second night and moved hotels to a Premier Inn which was much more comfortable.
WiFi was a bit sporadic but this was a minor quibble.
The location of the hotel was really good for me, just round the corner from the place I was working in. The staff were lovely, very helpful and very professional. Breakfast was a treat with proper sausages, bacon etc - none of that supermarket own brand stuff you sometimes get in hotels (even the good ones!) Room was very clean.
No lift (bag taken up for me) Radiator, tv remote and GHD straighteners didn't work - at all or properly. The mattress was a nightmare - I could locate every spring, much too worn and saggy. Room was cold but I didn't mind too much. Disappointed at the GHD straighteners though! TV remote worked intermittently - hugely frustrating. Phone in room didn't appear to work either when I tried to call down to reception on the morning of my departure.looking for help with my case.
Great staff. Tastefully decorated. Walking distance of centre. Close to park.
Furniture a little old and tired.
Good location. Nice and modern room l.Possible to walk to town centre, close to park
Too easy to hear people talk in neighbor rooms.Rather small single room
Rooms well decorated
Not central enough
The room was comfortable and clean. Good location, close to the city centre.
The bed was too soft. The towels should be changed more often.
I stayed in the Acorn Hotel for 3 nights and I really enjoyed my stay. It was clean, my room was very nice, good wifi, good breakfast and really nice facilities!
Really bad weather at the time and just felt welcomed and looked after throughout my short visit plus my friend, who was staying elsewhere, was also made to feel welcome for breakfast.
We liked the location of hotel The fact it wasn't a large hotel
We would have like to enjoy breakfast in our room . I prefer a bath Would have liked a later check out
Really cosy & welcoming-particularly in the wet, windy weather we experienced!!
We had a flood during the night as the water tank burst.my husband assisted at 4am for about an hour. I sent a letter of complaint and yet still no reply.
The staff were friendly and let us stay a little longer as it was the 1st of jan
Decor, staff, facilities in room
lukewarm water, uncomfortable matress& pillows, unstable shower tray.
Good location, convenient for city centre and university. Room was not huge but plenty large enough and had a really nice shower room.
Reception staff member was not a great host.
Close to businesses I was visiting Close to Kelvingrove Park Close to Charring Cross train station (7 min walk) Excellent breakfast Very clean rooms Free WiFi. When asked, staffed did help. Lady on duty the first night I was there was incredibly helpful and friendly. It's a decent short stay/business hotel. Clean and comfortable with good WiFi and breakfast - but not a place you'll want to lounge in. Rooms come with hairdryer and straightening irons!
No laundry service, or inclination to help provide one. The guy on reception got annoyed with me for calling reception to inquire, explaining that I should have come down to ask as he was working alone. I felt very awkward after that, as if by I was inconveniencing him in some way by being a guest at the hotel. There was no information in the room to let me know what was and wasn't provided at the hotel. Room was small and not the greatest sound insulation. I could hear my neighbour's TV through the walls.
Location. Joe was very helpful. Have stayed once before and will again.
Bed is a bit uncomfortable and small.
- Its close to the city. - Close to the offices
The fact staff at Acorn Hotel Glasgow harass you and threaten to cancel a booking if you don't pre-pay by midday on date of travel. People like to pay when they get to the hotel. In 2014 these sort of practices to get money out of people should be non existent.
Clean and modern
No one to speak to on the desk when I went down to complain about the noise from the room next door who were partying till 4 in the morning . Was told there was a sign on the door to tell you who to see but all dark an never saw it :(
Good quiet location. Ten minute walk to centre. Breakfast very good.
Central location. Very Clean. Staff friendly and helpful.
On street parking. Hotel provides parking vouchers at a cost of £4.00 per day. You require to pay this sum in cash at reception. Receptionist was very nice and helped out when I turned up without cash. ATM cash machine at Charing Cross, 5-10 minutes walk away.
15-20 minutes easy walking to the Hydro arena, and half the price of the on-site hotels. Also walked from Queens St station without effort. Quiet location, decent room and very helpful staff.
First time of visiting Glasgow, staff were very friendly and helpful. Full of useful information surrounding the area from bars to restaurants, to shopping. The beds were super comfy. Pillows were so amazing I wanted to keep them. The bathroom was clean and tidy and same with the room. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at the acorn hotel and I would stay here again.
Could do with having its own car park. Luckily we were staying at the weekend and the parking was free, however if you are planning on staying during the week it could be a little difficult.
