their was no one to meet us , also description was deciving as it is a youth hostel initial booking did not advise of this , there was no heating in the roon at all , duvet supplied was so thin as to be useless,
Plenty of tables in dining area ; car parking available
My accommodation was in the last room at the back of the hostel, where the cars drive in; the window didn't shut properly, and the heating didn't come on; there was no carpet in the room or hallway, like other areas; showers were in a tiny cupboard where everything got wet; there was no warm greeting on arrival from the girl on reception who looked bored and uninterested; very small kitchen
The convenience to route 27
The price is the same as a travel lodge where you would get a lot more for your money
outside of town close to hiking paths
our stay was in August but the indoor temperature was way too high and the only window in the room coud not open more a few inches otherwise blocking the bathroom door. Poor quality of sleep.
The ladies toilets smelled strongly of wee, a good spray around with bleach would help. Other than that the toilets and shower were clean and tidy.
Excellent value for money.
Attitude of kitchen staff.
It was a hot night and the temperature in the bedrooms was far too hot, so we all lost a night's sleep. Not good. Could the insulation be improved to chance this?
Food was good. Arrived on curry night and it was good.
The staff did not have a clue. From the basics of how to open the till to how to stop some guest rampaging around the hostel to the detriment of others. It was as if a group of trainees on their first day had been given the keys and told to make the best of it.
The whole concept was good, considering I,m nearly eighty.well presented and value for money.
Having been put in room 1 .you do need a door restraint on you entrance door . Not knocking the kids But every second bang bang bang.
Great facilities Very clean kitchen to cook in. Enjoyed the hot food available to buy at meal times. Games room ideal for children to hang out with a lounge at the other end for piece and quiet as an adult! Ideal for those on route, especially with the cycling trail. Nice to meet new people forma variety of countries. Would definitely stay again
As expected a little noise through the walls.
The location as a stop off point for Cornwall was excellent and a really interesting building. Rooms clean and comfy if a little basic. Lots to entertain the older ones on our overnight stay. Little one was a bit bored. There was plenty to do if we had decided to stay longer.
We opted for a meal and it was awful and not cheap for what we got. We had to send our pizzas back. The shared toilets and showers were a bit smelly and basic, and the shared kitchen was heaving. We could barely get in to make a cuppa.
Location was great for Dartmoor.
Shared kitchen - not very clean. Shared bathroom not very clean and no plug in the sink !! Bunk beds wouldn't have been big enough for my 6ft 2" Husband !
Friendly helpful staff
Food options not too healthy
Lovely location, and activities offered
Food on menu Main meal reheated, different to what was ordered, Pudding apple strudel uncooked (only microwaved) Coffee without saucer Staff untrained
I was on a rail tour and being nr the station was ideal.
No cover for the Duvet! no towel no kettle in the room, I had to share a wc and shower, tv room had a rugby team staying so not able to watch tv, the breakfast was basic quality. I paid £34 for a bed and breakfast, I had to walk to the pub in the evening for a meal as no snacks on offer at 8pm when I arrived. I dont expect the ritz but this was not good value for me as I stayed the previous night not too far away bb for £40 tv tea and coffee facilities, snacks in my room and very clean did not feel over used as did the Okehampton, cotton sheets my own bathroom with towels soap shampoo etc and an excellent breakfast. I wont stay again, I can get better value elsewhere.
LocAtion Twun room was good
Food was of poorquality. A jacket potato for £7 is more expensive than a pub and not good
Friendly helpful staff Games room and Lounge room
over-priced food and disorganised kitchen staff - husband waited at the 'bar' for 10 minutes for someone to serve him and despite staff coming out to serve meals to others and seeing him waiting did not then respond. Also got an incomplete order of food. They were apologetic and gave us free puds. Also, the most disgusting fish pie (if you can call it that!!) I have ever eaten - was obviously a microwaved meal that I was charged £8 for. Not good! Would advise finding a local pub.
Lots of activities to engage in but everything costs money. Good access to Dartmoor NP. Family rooms can sleep up to 6.
Self catering kitchen very small and crowded for a place that encourages families. Very poor selection of pots and pans for cooking for more than two. Eating out opportunities in town very basic.
Emma the cook and her team were amazing as were the staff on the front desk who organised great activities.
the rooms were quite comfortable for a hostel
the breakfast and dinner were not very good. and the cleanliness in the bedroom could of been a bit better. but its cheap, wasn't expecting 5*
Great recommendation for the local pub food - Fountain Inn fish n chips v. good.
Clean warm and comfortable, good facilities for a family with the added bonus of being able to self cater if you wished
Bunk beds not that comfortable
great staff, nice characterful building, great ensuite in private rooms, quiet after 11pm. nice lounge with tv and games room
it wasn't that I 'didn't like it' exactly, but there were lots of young children running about the corridors and taking over the games room in the evening so no chance to play pool or relax until they were in bed. Bless them, it was half term so understandable really. My only real grip was that internet only worked near reception where there was no heating.
