The friendly staff. The facilities. We hope to come back.
One of our waiters at dinner was a bit hashy. Knocked the pepper pot over, cutlery pushed aside when delivering orders and my soup plate had finger marks all round the rather large edge. The housecoats delivered to our room had no belts. When we asked for belts we were promised a delivery of coats with belts. They didn't arrive. We just gave up as we could manage without them. The sink in our room had a defective plug. We had to be careful we didn't drop anything down the plug hole.
Friendly staff, great surroundings, brilliant venue
The food was excellent
No walk in shower.difficult for older persons getting the bath.
the pool was lovely.
I thought we were going to be staying in the castle and not a hotel.
getting away from the city for a night.
not being offered the chance to book dinner for us prior to our arrival.
good value for money
The food is amazing
Room very run down mould in bathroom, had to shower in darkness. Shower leaked all over floor extremely unsafe
The food was tasty and the staff helpful. The room was large and comfortable.
The public areas were too cold and the reception staff not brilliant at giving directions to local attractions.
staff were welcoming and very accommodating. The food was lovely and good value.
The dining room was cold. The service a little over attentive with too many different waiters asking us the same questions. The meal then felt a little chaotic and a bit rushed.
enjoyed variety on offer, friendly staff, great food
personally bed comfort not to our liking but this is subjective
We loved the castle, four poster bed, the food & the cleanliness of the castle. We would like to come back on a quieter time maybe.
We were not 100% on a couple of the staff, disappointed in being told the bar in the castle was closed on a saturday night? And we both had to sit in the middle of a event/ big party in the new part of hotel which was quite loud & busy it would have been good to relax and sit in the castle bar which we were told has a real fire an would have been a bit more romantic for my fiancee on her 40th birthday, last but not least we didnt feel castle was haunted what so ever but hey ho.
We booked a room in the Castle which was very nice if a little pricey @ £244 for one night with dinner included. The spa was good & staff very friendly. The meals we both had were excellent & no complaints with the quality service.
We had an issue with no hot water & had to wash in luke warm water before going to dinner which was far from ideal. Hotel informed but with no other rooms free we had no option but to prevail. No offer of any compensation was very disappointing to be honest. Although the meal was included in price it only allowed £25 per person from the menu & I believe this info should be made available at time of booking.
Restaurant and beers very pricey
Enjoyed the pool and the food was nice
Quality of rooms was substandard: I would expect the like in a 2 star at most. Communal areas were poorly heated and staff didn't appear genuine and, one especially, was quite rude. Changing at pool was freezing and falling to bits. I think the whole place has seen better days and I would not say this is still a 4star hotel. Very disappointed.
liked we got an upgrade(the room shouldn't have been unsatisfactory in the first place)
shocking attitude from staff, was made to feel unwelcome. in first room: bathroom light not working, half of bath in darkness. all furniture chipped and tired looking. bed rock hard. no view whatsoever. generally dull and run down.
Restaurant staff were friendly and tried to oblige your needs.
Reception Check-in at 3pm is too late. After checking in at 2.15 and being told your room is not ready until around 3 and to take a seat in the bar area. Only to see, two large wedding parties arrive and check in continuously until 4pm. When we advised staff of the situation, we were told to stand in the que, yet again. Leisure pool area and changing rooms are tired with cleanliness not being to a standard required.
Rooms need refreshing/recurb
Location,Comfort and friendly and attentive service.
everything about the castle is excellent ,quality, lush surroundings, customer care, facilities, breakfast, and the staff.
Tspa I look forward to the spa after a long drive, BUT this time there were so many children very noisy diving in the pool, running in and out of the sauna, splashing in the jaccuzi, just totally out of control. I think rules should be in place,Serenity Spa ought to mean just that.It was more like a public swimming baths.
Food was good. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Room was noisy and bed uncomfortable. Allowed dogs into the lounge where we were eating lunch. Generally the place is tired.
Service was speedy and staff at all levels were welcoming and friendly and very dog orientated. Grounds were good for dog walkers
hotel reception and lounge were good. location lovely. lights on trees at night a good touch.
I did not think that the hotel was of 4 star standard.the hotel room could have done with some work window didnt shut properly, woodwork shabby, arm of chair broken and decor needed freshened up. Also the changing room at spa needs updating.changing rooms had three very small private cubicles with shower curtains that had seen better days as did the decor.
Jacuzzi, breakfasts, happy & helpful staff. So easy to get to places around about - very central
The reception & lounge staff.
The rooms. Nothing like what they're marketed online. Reminiscent of an early 70s bed sit, not what I'd expected from the photos. I asked to be moved to another room (something I've never done before & was embarrassed to do so), the second room was just as bad. Tired furnishings, beds & bed linen a far cry from a 4 star rating, stained carpets & lampshades. Having telephoned reception again, the Duty Manager came to the room &, as the receptionist had earlier explained, informed me the hotel was under refurbishment & she herself didn't like the room! I was offered a room in the castle which would be "more in the 21st century" albeit small & on the top floor with no lift. I considered the move but was cringing at the thought of what was to come and possibly having to refuse yet another room. After consideration, I decided not to accept the 3rd room as I believe you should receive (in the first instance) the quality of room you booked - you shouldn't be put in the position of complaining! There should have been clearer notification the resort was under refurbishment & more accurate photos of the rooms you're likely to be accommodated in. I would never recommend this hotel. I would however say the staff did their best under the circumstances.
Room was bright and spacious. Food excellent
Noisey spa. Kids running amock. Also the relaxing area outside the bar was anything but. Kids running about while parents in the bar. Not the relaxing place they advertised. Complaint made to them
