ALARA Bed and Breakfast

This Victorian property is placed between Sheffield Wednesday FC’s Hillsborough Stadium and a quiet, tree-lined park. ALARA Bed and Breakfast offers free Wi-Fi and free parking. All the ALARA’s bright, colourful rooms have a TV, free tea and coffee and a wash basin in the room. Fluffy towels are provided, and some rooms also have a private bathroom whilst others share bathroom facilities. Laundry facilities are also available. Our Continental Breakfast (Open buffet/Self service) is available everyday between 06:00-09:00 including weekends. The ALARA is just a few hundred metres from restaurants, a casino, Sheffield Speedway and a modern leisure centre. Trams into the city centre are a 5-minute walk away, whilst the scenery of the Peak District is a 10-minute drive.

Company information

We are a family owned and operated business. Our staff members are family friends many of whom are related. We maintain an informal working environment based on mutual respect and camaraderie. Many of our guests note the great working relationships between our staff and we tend to build on this in order to increase the homely atmosphere for our guests. We often hold staff 'get-togethers' both onsite and around the city. One highly-anticipated annual event is the staff Christmas party with a veritable banquet of homemade food on offer. We always try to include guests in these events with a "the more the merrier" attitude -

Property information

We are a traditional British Bed & Breakfast inside an old Yorkshire Victorian property. The building was built in 1889 and was converted from a row of terraced housing, many of the original features still remain and give character. We offer 18 guest rooms in various bed formats to accommodate all parties – Singles, Doubles, Twins, Triples and Families. One of the few traditional B&B’s left in Sheffield, the Alara is a vanguard for British hospitality. We pride ourselves on the warm personalised experience we offer our guests. Which many find sadly lacking from chain hotels. Many of our guests return again and again for this simple fact. We are family-owned and run and have been going successfully for nearly 20 years. We also pride ourselves in the fact that we are an inclusive service with free Wi-Fi, parking and other amenities with no hidden fees. We are only 5-minutes walk from a Sheffield Supertram stop for easy access to all of Sheffield's sights and attractions.

Neighbourhood information

Hillsborough is a vibrant yet homely area of Sheffield. The area has long had a connection to football with one of Sheffield’s two football teams - Sheffield Wednesday FC – based here at Hillsborough Stadium – just next door to us! Hillsborough Park – just a stone’s throw from us – is one of Sheffield’s many great parks and green spaces. The large park features a duck pond, long tree lined walkways and lawns, a children’s playground and sports facilities such as tennis courts. The park is often host to travelling exhibitions, festivals such as the yearly TRAMLINES event, fun fairs and circuses. Hillsborough is a local retail centre with many High Street and Independent retailers to choose from. There are three large supermarkets in Hillsborough with the most notable being the Morrisons inside the old Hillsborough Barracks complex. This veritable Victorian fortress has been redeveloped to house the supermarket and many other smaller retailers in a unique atmosphere. Hillsborough has many great restaurants to choose from – one recommendation is the ‘Front Room’ Indian Restaurant which seats diners in their own private dining rooms for an intimate homely feel with great authentic cuisine. All this and much more!
