The room was very dirty. I was very badly bitten by bedbugs in room 7 the "deluxe twin". Sorry - but there are basic things that all hoteliers can do to stop this problem. This is bad management and sheer laziness. One bathroom was shut down, water was leaking through the roof onto the corridor outside it. The remaining inconveniently placed shared bathroom was used by a very large number of guests and it was accessible after a long walk through the building including entering via the breakfast area. Extra hidden charges - a hefty fee if you pay by any type of card at check-in, an extra fee for "towel hire" and a deposit is held on the outside door key. Against the twin deluxe there are many better options in Glasgow at the same price.
People were so kind and the faciliyies were clean and useful, wifi as well. It is definitely good hostel.
Good location, but very basic for £56 for 2 people. We had private room but bedding old and crumpled. Shower room smelled damp.
Place is not worth the money Breakfast is not a good value for money , all cheap brands and not good quality and is self service. You need to pay for every thing and if you change your mind there is no refund. I stayed there for two nights and bought breakfast for both but after the first breakfast I asked for cancelling the second one and there was no refund for that!!! Never ever will go there.
Good common area with cozy living room, spacious dining room. Individual room is clean, and fairly large, and feels like a hotel rather than hostel. My room was very quiet. Very close to train station.
Breakfast was cereal and bread only. Cant expect more much for 2 quid though!
location staff accommodation space smell
We had a place to rest
Lack of toilet in family room
Everything not good
I don't like anything
This was a fantastic find after having spent two miserable nights in a hotel in London where we could not even have a shower . The shower in the Alba was fab . We opted for b/fast continental but great value for money. The Hostel is very well maintained and very clean. A lot of hostels take payment prior to arrival this hostel does not .The hostel is in an excellent location for access to the center of Glasgow but on a nice quiet street.
nothing negative to find
Friendly staff, nice quiet area and good breakfast... highly recommended
I'm from India stayed here for 2 weeks while I hunt for another job. The stay is really good
When I had to leave erlier, one of the men at the reception agreed to "pass" my payment on my friend so the friend could stay there for free. At the breakfast you can take as much food as you can eat.
I heard an American girl complaing about bedbugs which bit her during three nights. The other thing is, that one men of the staff didn't know which beds are free and showed me wrong one. I was woken up at midnight by a desperate girl who wanted to sleep in her bed but I was in there. WiFi is only near the reception. The staff doesn't respect men and women rooms. Nevertheless, it is a hostel and you can await all these troubles.
Mahomad to be thought people skills and system development in handling people/guests allocating
The owner Mahomad has no people skills nor management system for allocating nor treating customers. He is COLD AND CARELESS.
Hard to quantify but the atmosphere in Alba is very cool and peaceful. It's a nice building, well utilised.
Helpful staff, tidy bathrooms, cheap & good breakfast, fair location
Lack of reachable sockets
Reasonable rate and near the train station and busses
Wifi kept cutting out
- staff very nice and accommodating - clean - good value for money
- there were some noises in the evening - there were some booking problems when I arrived (but the problems related to other travellers)
1)location was close to my daily activities
1)for the fact the website is confusing,it tells me i have a female dorm which in fact was a mixed dorm 2)the owner lied so that he would not loose money(i emailed him and called him at which he assure me all three of my family will be in same dorm and that it is a all female one, then upon arrival he puts us in a mixed dorm and further separate my sister to another),am still discussed about this situation because my daughter is under age and clearly explain it to him when i booked. 3)1 bathroom/toilet for a dorm of 8 people is not acceptable at all and for the fact that no other toilet was available furthermore the bed was terrible! 4)no staff are ready to help when requires for assistance 5)wifi takes ages to work and there was not enough utensils in the kitchen to use
breakfast and common room
reception staff had poor English, unsure of checkout procedure etc.
Location right next to train st
No check in till 4pm
no plug inbathroom ,cracked sink towels to be payed for. had we been told would have brought our own.it was a rip off .
On frequent bus line. Big old house. A bargain during Glasgow 2014.
Someone was in my bunk when I came back at midnight. Staff were not too helpful. Nothing to walk to close by.
Good value for money
Building a little worn out, could do with a refurbishment
Our reservations were not accurate and the desk clerk helped solve the issue. I loved the kitchen area and the ability to eat outside. Parking the car without paying was a bonus.
Mattress quality was not good.
Place is clean and one of the staff Joseph is very helpful and got 1 nights good rest.
One the 2nd night. One of the other staff members kept me awake till 3am in the morning.. So I got only 4 hours sleep and had to go to work after that... Not ideal. I had complained to his colleague called Bella at 12midnight but he failed to resolve the situation and went to bed himself. Having been trying to sleep since 8pm but thought it was another guest and would tolerate the football celebrations but can't say I was impressed. I complained in the morning and Joseph offered me another room... But in the evening I decided to go straight back to London as I was absolutely shattered and would rather travel for 6 hours to get home and get guaranteed sleep than to spend another night at this hostel. Steer clear of the staff member from Leicester he is too loud and I found his behaviour unhelpful.
