Darren the owner met us at the door and couldn't haven't been more welcoming. The room was very comfortable with quality beds and shower. Very clean. I requested the heating turned on and it was done without hesitation.

The location is literally 2 blocks (5 minute walk) from the heart of the city, and you cross through a beautiful garden with a soaring ruined abbey to get there! Darren was a great host with excellent suggestions on how best to enjoy his city. His breakfast was the best we had in a week of B&B's.

Darren, our host was very pleasant and friendly. He was very relaxed at all times. The beds were very comfortable. The en-suite bathroom was spacious, very clean and had a spacious shower The towels were good quality..

The room was a little smaller than expected and was rather too warm in the hot weather. Being "older" I would have liked a stool in the bathroom so that I could have sat down to dry my feet after showering. The pedal bin was too flimsy and difficult to open.

Darren is an excellent host with great knowledge of the area and cooks a lovely breakfast. Location is really good with walks through the park or along the riverside to get to the town centre only 5_10 mins. Will definately be going back.

Darren was a brilliant host and could not do enough for you. The comfort and relaxed manner you felt in Alcuin Lodge, felt like home from home. Everything was perfect and more.

What was there not to like? Maybe the colour of one of the paintings in the bedroom (a tiny spot of green in the left hand corner)

Excellent. Very close (10 mins walk) to City centre and all the attractions and sights. Darren was an excellent host, very friendly, welcoming and informative with a great local knowledge. He gave us a lot of very useful information including good places to eat and see. The accommodation was spotless and quiet. Also great breakfasts. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in York.

Could not fault, it was all good!

Darren was extremely helpful in giving us ideas of how to enjoy York the short time we were able to be there. We arrived by train and it was very easy to walk to his place without having to use a busy road.

Good location for the places I had to visit. Spotless.

Electric pepper mills that make noises like a dentist's drill.

Warm welcome. Lots of information and local tips. Immaculate surroundings. Most comfortable. Attention to detail ... Darren (proprietor) has thought of everything you might possibly need. Will return if ever in York again.

Perhaps suggest some soft background music at breakfast as the room quite small.

Everything! First time in York and Alcuin Lodge is a true home away from home. Daren the owner was great! He proactively contacting me to ensure I get the right direction to his B&B from the train station, provided me with all the insider tips about York and places to visit. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting York for a long or short stay.

The location is about 20 minutes walking distance from the train station as well as the city center. However, it's a nice scenic walk through the garden or along the York river.
