Great setting. Gorgeous building. Friendly and welcoming concierge and reception staff. Excellent atmosphere and service in the champagne bar. Roaring fires. Welcoming and helpful staff in the spa reception. Very relaxing facial.
Stayed a Saturday night- a few big groups of girls on weekend/spa breaks, which meant a lot of chatting/noise in the spa area particularly in the steam/sauna rooms. If you were not part of the group...not very relaxing. Also rowdy at times in the restaurant particularly later on, very distracting if trying to have a romantic meal. Sauna and steam rooms are located in the changing rooms therefore unisex, a disadvantage if you are a couple. Only tepid water in hot taps in room, therefore impossible to have bath or shower.
The Ambience, quality, relaxed feel. Distinct lack of young children.....PERFECT! :-)
No bad experience
Staff were very pleasant and helpful. General manager Ian was a gentleman
The age of the building means you can hear a lot of noise from guests downstairs
Everything from the room to the lounges, bars, dining, spa was nothing less than exceptional. The staff were incredible too. The best short break luxury hotel I've stayed at in the UK - and I've stayed at most!
Absolutely nothing that I didn't like - other than having to leave and return to reality!
Hotel room. Pool and very impressed with the staff on arrival.
Unfortunately we were moved out of the restaurant because another guest wanted our slot. So we accommodated this request to eat in the champagne bar and then were asked move to drawing room on our first evening because of our children. We were made to feel that the needs of the other guests came before ours because we had young children. I also appreciate the fact that a whiskey tasting was to start and there would have been a lot of glass around but felt this was important enough to mention.
Food was astronomically over priced for very average food
Excellent spa facilities, good food, attentive staff. Beautiful building and location
rooms, spa, pool, very comfy beds, foods, staff
a bit over-priced, not very flexible when you make requests outside of standard package
The place and the room cost
The spa treatments are really not value for money and the food in the fine dining restaurant was very expensive for what it was.
Size of bath and shower room the place itself the way the paper was delivered in the morning.
The area is nice and its close to gatwick. Spa was nice and therapist was good.
I requested them to do something for my boyfriends birthday which they didnt. Service at reflections was slow. Wine too ages and food was nearly cold. Room facilities are not of a 5 star. No mini bar, no shower caps, shower was luke warm. The main bar closed at about 12.30pm when hotel was busy and guests wanted drinks.. highly over priced.
Spa facilities, location and staff.
The food. This is a weak area of the hotel. Baked beans included in breakfast and they operate with mayonnaise in the restaurant, ruining the food. I try to choose simple options to avoid disappointment. I go to Alexander House Hotel for relaxation and rest. Sad that they cannot improve the food.
I have booked the room just for 1 night to escape the Central London where we live and celebrate my wife Birthday. The hotel location, facilities ( the Utopia Spa in particular ) are very nice and the staff is very helpful. We also enjoyed the Mediterranean massage in the spa, so the spa is highly recommended.
The so called Blenheim Suite, where we stayed, is located in the old part of the building, somehere under the roof, which is quite difficult to find ( spent about 15 min wandering around the hotel, wearing only bathroom robes after the spa) and accessiable only by narrow spiral staircase. The headspace is tight on the staircase, hit my head on the ceiling ( I am an average 6ft man ) and the hight of the ceilings in the room is only about 2m, so one may feel claustrophobic. There is no any kind of fridge in the room, which is also not really 5 * experience.
The lounge/bar staff, the restaurant staff were particular excellent and took great care of every person in our party and out outside guests. It was extraordinary.
Pool not open for kids
Staff is very helpful and kind. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Garden is beautiful and peaceful. Overall, it is a very charming hotel.
As it is an old building, you can hear noisy guests easily. But the staff was very helpful by making a kind warning to the noisy guests in the room opposite.
Very friendly, helpful staff Superb setting
Outstanding food within a very relaxed atmosphere allowing one to indulge in sheer relaxation from the spa to the immaculate gardens and surrounds. I would highly recommend Alexander House Hotel and Utopia Spa to anyone looking for that little bit more.
It was expensive but worth it. We only stayed one night but the staff were great as was the spa
That we couldn't afford to stay more than one night :(
Breakfast and light lunch. Excellent Spa and Pool area.
No fridge in room for 4 day stay.... Half of bathroom lights out. No reading lights by bed. No shelf / storage near or under basins.
We arrived to our room not being ready so had a lovely lunch on the terrace .
Very dissappointed We were put in the roof by the fire door, which kept us awake by the door banging it was the start of our honeymoon which the hotel was notified but gave us the worst room in the hotel. When we arrived our room was not ready so we had lunch on the terrace, lovely lunch service a little slow though. Enjoyed the break a little disappointed with the hotel
The food in the fine dining was excellent
The bedroom remained very warm despite the air conditioning
Sommelier at AGs was awesome. Treatments at spa were lovely.
Room service breakfast order wrong - twice, despite calling to correct. Girl delivering was very sulky when we asked to keep the plate covers to keep our food warm. Spa horribly noisy. Not relaxing at all. More like a water park. A particularly noisy hen party of around 20 women. When we asked the manager to perhaps suggest they be a bit quieter and respect the other guests he nodded, smiled and did absolutely nothing. We left after 15mins. Ruined one of the reasons for choosing this hotel.
