The guest house is a short distance from Edinburgh city centre. There are about seven different bus lines that stop right outside and go to the city centre so it was convenient. There is on-street parking available on the street next to the guest house. Rooms were clean and warm and the shared bathroom is also clean. Included is a hot breakfast cooked to order and there are cereals, yoghurt, and fruit available. Staff were friendly.

Very welcoming atmosphere with Beautiful room. The only minor complaint is the 11am checkout is quite early and breakfast was too early. Would definitely return again

Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room and great breakfast. About 20-30 minute walk from Waverley station, easy to find as it's straight down one road all the way. There was no soap or shampoo in my shower but the staff got me some once I asked. No complaints.

Friendly, clean and economically priced. Very good position (just out of centre of town), reasonably quiet. Staff were very helpful, couldn't do more to make our stay pleasant. Bed linen and towels were fresh, clean and crisp. Tv and kettle in every room. Minor maintenance issues (doors stuck, tiles cracked etc.)

The staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient without being intrusive. The accomodation was clean and comfortable, the service excellent with an air of being family owned/run. I would definatley recommend it to others.

Great weekend stay in spacious room with en suite bathroom and shower, comfortable bed, full english and continental breakfast included, free internet, friendly and helpful staff. Some may find it little away from the centre but I wasn't mind the hike.

The hotel was on a direct bus route from the city and very easily accessible. It was friendly and met all our needs. The room was clean with clean bed linen, comfortable beds, bathroom facilities were excellant. The room required a little bit of attention to decoration, paint peeling on the ceiling. Breakfast was great, all needs catered for and plenty to eat. Overall experience was excellant. Many thanks.

The lady-owner of the guest house was very friendly en made us feel welcome. She did everything to make us feel warm and at home. The room was clean and big and it had the atmosphere of an historic building. Like you went back in time. The breakfast was abundant and the staff was nice. Would i go back there....no doubt about it!

When I arrived there was no one in the hotel. I had to go to the neighbors to pick up the key. The room was ok but very cold and the doorknob fell of when I closed the door! After two hours someone arrived and I could ask for a wifi code so I could do some work. She then turned the heater on, I didn't find the lady very friendly. There were only two small towels in the bathroom and 2 of 3 lights didn't work. When I took a shower the next morning the shower head slid down and when I tried to fix it the shower head came of the hose and the shower curtain was moldy:( Breakfast was ok. I told the lady of the house what was wrong with the room but I didn't feel she took me seriously. The only thing she said about it was that there used to be a door in the shower but that people break it all the time!!!!!! No sorry or anything. I was very disappointed.

Spent only one night before catching a 6:00 am flight from Edinburgh back to the States, but from my admittedly brief stay, I liked what I saw and would stay again. There were some stairs involved, we were on the second floor, but that is often the case when staying in places more interesting and character-filled than the chain motels. Access to wi-fi is a great and inexpensive service for lodgings to offer. The Alexander Guest House doesn't have the feature yet. It would be a big plus if it did. It's why I marked the services and value categories a bit below the rest.

Easy to access, personable owner, great breakfast. Clean and comfortable with good sized room. Prehaps a little jaded looking - woodwork needed painting. And sash windows noisy when it was windy!

Friendly staff and comfortable house. My only comment is about the limited range of the wi-fi. It doesn't reach all rooms. The location was great with parking as long as you observe the parking regulations. Guest house is on a main bus route, so getting to Edinburgh was easy.

The atmosphere of a family hotel was wonderful. Breakfast was good enough. What we liked most is friendly staff. Location is not perfect - quite a long distance from the center. Anyway, it's quickly accessible at daytime by bus (hotel is near bus stop), and such location is worth money paid for our stay there.
