In the heart of the city, McLays Guest House is well located for visiting Glasgow’s many museums and art galleries and is just a short walk from lively Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Street.

The cost Central Location - walk to downtown
Scruffy exterior No parking except for paid car park Difficult to off load and load luggage
Very central, very affordable
We were unable to access wifi.
I was unable to book into our usual hotel nearby. Looking for hotel near the station Alexander Thompson popped up so booked in. Very pleasant receptionist and staff. Very reasonably priced, clean and tidy. Very good breakfast.
Fourth floor room overlooked derelict garden and constant noise from ? boiler. Lumpy beds but in fact had a really good night's sleep!
Guy on reception wasn't overly friendly, enthusiastic or remotely interested . Saw only 2 staff him and the night porter . We asked for an early continental breakfast as we were checking out at 6.30am.. (I needed to have food as I was having minor surgery and was told to eat prior to arrival at hospital) nothing was made available but a cup of black coffee from a machine, no milk, no spoon :-/ hotel was clean and comfortable enough
Central location, low(ish) cost, breakfast buffet, I think I got a newly re-furbished room, comfy bed, good shower
Bagpipes early in the morning!! Although I am sure this doesn't happen every day. Doesn't look very nice from outside and there are a few boarded up buildings in the area, not picture postcard stuff
Very large room with additional sitting room. Good breakfast.
Nice cooked breakfast, convenient location, tea & coffee and cookies provided daily, friendly staff
keycard often does not work and has to be reactivated; rooms facing street a little noisy, flat pillows
Size of room The room itself, decor and comfort Location great for centre of city Staff efficient Great value for money
Dining room and breakfast very tired
Almost next door to the Queen St train station. Very close to the Central train station and Buchanan Street bus terminal. Large clean room.
The breakfast was blahhhh after having travelled for 3 weeks in NorthernScotland this was atypical hotel fare.
Staff as always were really helpful and friendly. Receptionists always have a smile for you. Breakfast is always excellent too.
I stay here regularly but this is the first time I had a room that I could say was 'tired' and a bit musky. There was also strong cigarette smell which is not attractive with you have a young child with you. Minor faults though in what is always a good hotel experience
Very handy to Glasgow Central train station and easy enough walk to Buchanan Street bus station even with a large suitcase. I booked a double room for some added space. The bathroom alone was larger than some of the single rooms I have stayed in so far, and the high ceilings added to the sense of space. Tea/coffee making facilities in the room and a comfy sofa to sit on. Snack bar in the foyer downstairs. The lift was a little slow but there was a lift which saved dragging the suitcase up flights of stairs. Ventilation via open window, not air conditioning. My package came with breakfast included and there was plenty to choose from. Staff were friendly and efficient.
Couldn't get the wifi working but didn't follow up with anyone as there were plenty of places up town where I could go. Some might find the noise from Argyle St below a little distracting with the window open, but you could probably close the window for sleeping without feeling stuffy or claustrophobic or try ear plugs.
Very comfy great breakfast
Cleanliness of hotel, staff very pleasant, food good.
Great location - handy for city tour bus and walking distance from central Station. Clean, comfortable room. Lovely breakfast with lots of choice. Great value for money.
One of the two elevators was under repair during our stay, causing long delays to and from our room. Seemed overpriced, however we were there during festival time, so lodging was hard to get anywhere in Edinburgh.
Comfortable and very central
Rooms very warm and a bit noisy so didn't sleep too well.
Ideal base in Glasgow and great breakfast and comfy bed,
Lift is small and really slow for the amount of rooms
Nice big bedroom & bathroom, excellent shower, Wifi was very good. We liked the luggage room facility as leaving late afternoon. Bottled water was a nice touch, location was great for the station and shops.
Traffic noise but hardly the hotel's fault. No scrambled eggs as an alternative to the hard yolk fried ones.
More fruit and brown bread please
The Staff are helpful & friendly The breakfast has an excellent choice of cold & hot menu Bedroom/bathroom spotless Pleasant ambience
The only blight was in trying to enter the room. I used the key several times before having to summon help from reception who sorted it. Otherwise top marks.
Very good cooked breakfast Nice breakfast and bar area
Breakfast was fabulous.
Superior location, you can reach main points of interest in 15 minutes max. Hotel arranged a good deal for car parking in the city parking place nearby.
Hotel urgently heeds renovation. Breakfast was neither tasty nor healthy
Visiting Glasgow. Hotel very close to where we wanted to go!
Room although tidy was a little small for our liking.
everything - more than likely stay here again in October
only thing I would say is the bathroom had some marks between tiles but apart from that it was brilliant.
